Hi Harry, The curved key and keyway is fairly unique, and they have considered pick resistance with the spools. I'm guessing their main concern was key control. In Asian countries there is often little key cutting stalls on street corners, and even mobile key cutters with machines on the backs of small motor cycles. The other problem is the curved key would not sit in the jaws of most dimple duplicating machines, thus key control would be reasonably effective. Regards, Brian.

You should make a video series of real-world picks. Go find random locks in acceptable places (friends, willing participants, etc.) and pick everything the eye can see!
Probably not all that worse than having 5-6 keys plus a fob and key-tags. Most people have a fairly full key-ring anyhow, between house, vehicle and possibly work or storage keys.
These videos are fascinating. You pick all these locks with such ease. I wonder if you’ve ever failed to pick a lock? Is there such thing as an unpickable lock?
Interesting lock. I think the curved keyway is a little marketing thing, it makes it look safe in it's apparent complexity. Thanks for the great vids. Lock on😎
HaHaHaHaHaHaHaHa! It kinda’ would be nice to see what that would look like! He gets angry, starts cussing and swearing and throwing things across the room! 🤣 He has stated, LThere isn’t a lock I cannot pick.” He has also stated, “There are a few locks I can’t pick Right Now.” He has a few special ones that he continues to work on....he won’t show us those, until he does!
I’ve thought of a lock design that would be extremely difficult to pick at least, if not impossible without special tools. It’s a bit crazy so bear with me. Basically, the key is a cube that has a long button protruding from it. To use it, you place the cube in the hole it goes into and push the long button. When this happens, a bunch of pistons come out of the cube and pushes other pistons out of the way, unlocking the lock. What makes it difficult to pick is that there really is no limit to how many pistons you can put onto the key. You could have 10, 20, 50. You name it. On top of that, the long button could be designed to extend the pistons in their respective order, instead of all at once. This is important because the lock could be designed to not open unless the pistons were pushed in the correct order. And on top of all of that, the lock could require constant pressure and a considerable amount of force to operate, which makes it basically impossible to just hold the pistons down and quickly open it. With how difficult this lock would be to pick, I think your best bet would be to just brute force into wherever you’re trying to get. If you got this far, thanks for reading. Also, tell me what you think about this design. I’m no locksmith but I think this about as close as you can get to having an unpick-able, functional lock. Still, I don’t think this would be anything more than a novelty lock due to the sheer impracticality of carrying the key around. More pistons = more security, with the trade off being a bigger and heavier key. More pistons also means more force needed to open the lock. If you have 20 pistons that each need 2 pounds of force to activate (roughly 1 kg), you’re looking at 40 pounds of pressure. With enough pistons, the force to unlock it could get so high that you might be inclined to replace the long button with a detachable lever. And don’t even get me started on maintenance. This thing would be a nightmare to clean and lubricate. And that’s if you could even build it because I KNOW this does not exist. So yeah. A cool idea is not always a useful one.
Your "vice" is my "pole mount" for cameras 'n speakers 'n stuff XD They just put the "tripod", in reverse, on that large gray base. That's pretty awesome re-purposing.
Very interesting to see the inside of the key chamber.. I bet if the back of the cylinder had a interactive pin to engage and more of a curve like you suggested it would have made for a way more secure lock(and a better fitting cylinder)???
Interesting lock. Good idea to curve the keyway, they just need it to be a greater curve. Sure you can curve a pick to match, but you don't know it's curved until you look close. I am surprised you do not own a tool for removing those threaded end cap plug retainers. You can get a cheap one from sparrows, they mill them into the ends of their plastic followers.

Very unusual lock, great job picking and expanding it Mr.L.P.L
Cayman Island bank safety deposit box lock where Dr. No stores his gold.
YESSSSS THE MINI VICE IS BACK. It’s so cute that you have to hit the thumbs up button.
Seeing the key is like having the answer to the test.
But teachers wants the solution or you have cheated.
You should make a video series of real-world picks. Go find random locks in acceptable places (friends, willing participants, etc.) and pick everything the eye can see!
koalabear555 good idea
Fantastic lock but that key on a key ring in your pocket would suck
Probably not all that worse than having 5-6 keys plus a fob and key-tags. Most people have a fairly full key-ring anyhow, between house, vehicle and possibly work or storage keys.
These videos are fascinating. You pick all these locks with such ease. I wonder if you’ve ever failed to pick a lock? Is there such thing as an unpickable lock?
Does he have any videos where he puts the lock back together after disassembling it like he has done here?
mm i think maybe just a few
You are a Master. Thank you for sharing.
That's an awesome tray, must be made of resin or something.😍👍🏻
machined aluminium?
Love the contrast of colors on that new pin tray, can only imagine what Bill is gonna cnc next.
How have I only just realized that this guy is the doctor from Star Trek Voyager?!
It does sound like him
Honestly, it would be really cool to see a little animation of what you are doing in the lock just to have a visual.
Did you see those locks from Hammerfell? They've got curved keys. Curved. Keys.
What a cool lock! Something original. Also great job on picking it with a normal dimple pick. Figures, lol!
7:25 oh no, demonitization incoming
Some quality lock porn there. 😁
Interesting lock. I think the curved keyway is a little marketing thing, it makes it look safe in it's apparent complexity. Thanks for the great vids. Lock on😎
I want a lock to win in one of these episodes :(.
HaHaHaHaHaHaHaHa! It kinda’ would be nice to see what that would look like! He gets angry, starts cussing and swearing and throwing things across the room! 🤣 He has stated, LThere isn’t a lock I cannot pick.” He has also stated, “There are a few locks I can’t pick Right Now.” He has a few special ones that he continues to work on....he won’t show us those, until he does!
there was one
i think it was called the bowley lock or something like that
I wouldn't expect anything less from the "locksmith lawyer" but damn that was impressive how you opened that.
You could have used one of your bendy black flags...!
It took more than a minute for the LPL to pick it. This one is a keeper guys!
Time to add manicures to your production budget ;)
the curved key is to attract customers (sort of like how fishing lures are designed to catch fishermen)
Whenever I hear a lock is made of cast zinc, I just want to melt it.
That was my thought when he mentioned that. They've put that BB in the face for drill protection, but you could melt it out in minutes.
Funny how LPL is given the key to analyze and study. No intruder would have access to that info.
*It would be interesting*
to see you pick a so called _"Unpickable Lock"_
LPL you've got me inspired... One of my close friends met you at Def Con and recommended I buy my first set of picks from TOOOL so i did : )
I can only say that I like this lock. Regardless of the fact that you picked it. I take that as normal. Most people would not be able to pick it.
whats chance we could watch you reassemble one of these locks, would be interesting to see the finicky parts or assembly
Your "vice" is my "pole mount" for cameras 'n speakers 'n stuff XD
They just put the "tripod", in reverse, on that large gray base. That's pretty awesome re-purposing.
Would be interesting to watch you get them back together as well.
TH-cam just recommended me 9 of your videos in a row on the home page.
You can get a cheap one from sparrows, they mill them into the ends of their plastic followers.
i see the video is 8 minutes and i got so excited i popped popcorn before starting.
Very peculiar thing. Never seen one like this before. Thanks for sharing!
