As somebody of Chinese heritage, I just want to point out that Luna's patronis is a good fit for what hares and rabbits represent in East Asian folklore. For one hares and rabbits are representative of the moon, which is quite fitting for Luna is named after the Roman goddess of the Moon, while in Chinese mythology the Jade Rabbit was the companion of the moon goddess Chang'e, and was basically her spirit animal and mascot just as owls were to Athena. Also the rabbit zodiac symbolizes mercy, elegance and beauty. People who are born in the year of the rabbit are considered to be calm and peaceful. They avoid fighting and arguing at all times, but are artistic and have good taste in life.

I have a theory as to Why this spell is so hard to cast. Most people live in relative comfort. They don’t feel the extremes of their emotions. Harry has felt loss and loneliness all of his life. For the majority of his life he’s been in the “sadness spectrum” really no hope to be happy. Then when happiness was let into his life there was such a paradigm switch that his happiness was felt more so then if he didn’t feel that sadness before hand. So his happy thoughts meant more to him. Therefore his patronus was more powerful.
I feel like it's more to do with when they learn it. The older you are the more memories you have and the less an individual means. When you're young each happy memory means a lot more and has a lot more depth. It's simply a matter of needing less fuel.

If someone lived a better life they would have much more to pull from and thus the spell would be stronger. For example, Luna was the last person in the group to cast it.
What about Sirius? I thought it was confirmed that his was a dog along with his animagus form? I also thought it was quite telling that both Ron and Sirius could cast dogs. I have never understood how some people can like Sirius but hate Ron. They are very similar in a lot of ways. That was why when Ron threw himself in front of Harry it woke Sirius up to the way he was acting in the Shrieking Shack. Also Ron was pretty much Harry's James. Because James gave Sirius a loving family and a home.

I vaguely remember that Snape’s was originally a wolf. Makes sense since wolves hunt deer. It wasn’t until Lilly’s death that his transformed into a doe, Lilly’s patronus. A phenomenon that happens when deep love is felt towards another.

As far as the dark wizards like Umbridge casting a patronus, I don't think it's so much that only a pure heart can cast a patronus, but that a completely corrupted heart that loves nothing can't. Or perhaps it was Raxidian's association with the patronus's natural enemies that doomed him. (And yes, Umbridge was completely corrupted, but she did love herself and the suffering of others.)

Rowlings said that after Fred’s death, George could no longer form a patronus. As she said, 1 for sadness , 2 for joy. As for Neville, his core memory would probably be his parents. He still visits them. Keeps every wrapper they give him like a treasure. Sadness mixed with happiness is probably why he can’t form a corporeal patronus. If he could form a patronus , it would probably be something that displays loyalty, devotion, and protection. Protection is where he falls short. He thinks he’s weak/cannot protect as well as he sjould. He overcomes that feeling he’ll have a powerful patronus.

Ok, now I’m honestly curious why voldemort wouldn’t tell death eaters to cast a potronus spell if he was suspicious of them. Not like it was hard to find a wand even if it shattered. What I’m saying is it’s the ultimate test as either your wand explodes or you cast the spell and you can’t do anything about it.

I remember reading that they were most likely female, but it wasn't certain, and now I can't even find that line anymore. Incidentally, Harry does drop by on rare occasion to teach a DADA lesson or two at Hogwarts, before going back to his job. I like to think he does the Boggart lesson, carrying on the legacy from Dumbledore and Lupin, but it doesn't specify.
I once did the Patronus test and it came up a greyhound but I can't remember what it was but I know that most dogs are the loyal kind of characters. I love greyhounds

I have a Raven Patronus which apparently is rare according to the wizarding world website When I searched for the Raven Patronus meaning it gave me this: “Having a Raven as your Patronus means you find comfort in mysticism. You are a spiritual person - not meaning that you are necessarily religious, but that you are very in-tune with your inner self and the world around you” That to some extent matches me as I am in-tune with who I am as an individual but if I’m being honest I only like having it because Ravens are my favourite animal
Here's a wild theory! Voldemort didn't need a Patronus because anytime a Dementor got close enough to him to feel his emotions they got hit with so much agnst, denyal, and vanity that even THEY couldn't handle it. So The Dementors treated Voldy the same way people treat that one emo kid in class.
Isn’t it that only those who are thinking of a moment of great joy can produce a patronus and not only those with a pure heart? While Umbridge was evil she clearly had moments of great joy whenever she was exercising her power and relishing in her authority. Maybe it’s not that Raczidian’s patronus failed because he wasn’t fighting a dark force-he was fighting a good wizard and he was enraged in the moment so he wasn’t thinking of something joyful. Maybe that instead of not being of a pure heart is why his backfired? Maybe it’s more so that you can’t use one against non-malevolent beings?
According to some quiz, my patronus is evidently a dragon, and then a different quiz says my patronus is a kitten... So my patronus is a kitten riding a dragon.
@torcheditz: They don't, McGonagall's Patronus is a Silver Moggy Shorthaired Tabby Cat, like her Animagus Form. Umbridge's is a Persian Cat. They are both Cats but different breeds and different personalities. Not all Cat breeds have the same personalities, they are all different.

JKR should’ve made Corporeal Patronus’ able to block the forbidden curses. It seems like it’d be hard to accomplish and not broken. Imagine the patronus dying; it was be so sad. Wizards would run into battle with their spirit animal. PETA would never let that happen actually. I just think that something like a mammoth patronus should be able to block a killing curse at least once.

Seemed like many (most?) of Dumbledore's army succeeded .. 🤔. Not sure Seamus' difficulty is enough to justify the claim of difficulty. Oddly, for a spell that requires a happy anchor, it seems hardship might be a stronger driver. Perhaps necessary to amplify or contrast the happy thought. Apparition was also stated to be difficult, yet it seemed that most were capable of it. At least of those we know.

That "pure heart" thing seems like a retcon. A Patronus is supposed to represent joy and happiness. Voldemort was unable to feel genuine happiness, so he was unable to cast a Patronus. On the other hand, Umbridge was able to cast one because causing misery and dominating others brought her genuine happiness.

9:25 MYTH. Nowhere in the books does it say that James' patronus was a stag, ONLY that it was his animagus form. You can theorize it if you want, but his patronus form is never stated in the books, so we don't know. People keep repeating this for some reason.
@@HarryPotterTheory I've heard that argument before, but the only example of a known animagus with a matching known patronus is McGonagall, who was/cast a cat in both cases. One example does not make a pattern. There's also Lupin, but he was a werewolf rather than a wolf animagus, so that's really a different story.
Albus Dumbledore in the Deathly Hollows: Part II movie also didn't get a proper shape as it was shown as a green spherical boom. In fairness though, the fact that green was projected would certainly be illustrated of his skill with Petronas Charm. Besides phoenixes and unicorns, thestrials and dragons can also be patronuses.
When I took the Pottermore test it gave me thestral for my patronus and Hufflepuff for my house.

@@JamesDavy2009 , I’ve wondered about the curse too. The movies give the impression that spells end with the caster’s death, but obviously spells, for example, of the Hogwarts founders and spells applied to artworks last endlessly in both the books and the movies.
@@JamesDavy2009 @J.E. B. The wiki confirms that the curse ended and that a consistent teacher took over the post. Seemingly no one we already knew, though. I remember reading that they were most likely female, but it wasn't certain, and now I can't even find that line anymore.
Incidentally, Harry does drop by on rare occasion to teach a DADA lesson or two at Hogwarts, before going back to his job. I like to think he does the Boggart lesson, carrying on the legacy from Dumbledore and Lupin, but it doesn't specify.
I was delighted to find out I got the tiger patronus!!! I LOVE big cats and im a zookeeper who gets to work with a lynx so its pretty fitting! :)

I once did the Patronus test and it came up a greyhound but I can't remember what it was but I know that most dogs are the loyal kind of characters. I love greyhounds
I got the Irish greyhound what i like about my patronus is that ,it really suits my house(Hufflepuff) and my wand which is an Ash wood with a unicorn hair which are all showing loyalty

@zacobyz4431: I always thought Lucius if he had one would be something very haughty and proud, certainly before he became a wreck near the end not only from his stint in azkaban but from his fear of Voldemort. Umbridge would have learnt the difficult spell so she could have one upmanship over her peers, and hers was a Persian Cat, whom are quite a docile breed of cat but are high maintenance due to having long fur. I think if Bellatrix were capable of conjuring one, it would be some kind of Insect or reptile that had sadistic tendancies. Something that tortures first before they kill.

Yes, when I first got my patronus on Pottermore it was an occamy that snake/bird type creature in the first Fantastic Beasts. I never quite understood the meaning of getting that one. Plus, as you stated in this video, having a patronus that was a magical creature is rare. ?
My Patronus would be a donkey. That way whenever I'm finished with it I can say "that'll do donkey. That'll do"😂

When I searched for the Raven Patronus meaning it gave me this:

That to some extent matches me as I am in-tune with who I am as an individual but if I’m being honest I only like having it because Ravens are my favourite animal

Here's a wild theory! Voldemort didn't need a Patronus because anytime a Dementor got close enough to him to feel his emotions they got hit with so much agnst, denyal, and vanity that even THEY couldn't handle it. So The Dementors treated Voldy the same way people treat that one emo kid in class.

Isn’t it that only those who are thinking of a moment of great joy can produce a patronus and not only those with a pure heart? While Umbridge was evil she clearly had moments of great joy whenever she was exercising her power and relishing in her authority. Maybe it’s not that Raczidian’s patronus failed because he wasn’t fighting a dark force-he was fighting a good wizard and he was enraged in the moment so he wasn’t thinking of something joyful. Maybe that instead of not being of a pure heart is why his backfired? Maybe it’s more so that you can’t use one against non-malevolent beings?

@torcheditz: They don't, McGonagall's Patronus is a Silver Moggy Shorthaired Tabby Cat, like her Animagus Form. Umbridge's is a Persian Cat. They are both Cats but different breeds and different personalities. Not all Cat breeds have the same personalities, they are all different.

JKR should’ve made Corporeal Patronus’ able to block the forbidden curses. It seems like it’d be hard to accomplish and not broken. Imagine the patronus dying; it was be so sad. Wizards would run into battle with their spirit animal. PETA would never let that happen actually. I just think that something like a mammoth patronus should be able to block a killing curse at least once.
When I took the quiz I got a mother bear specifically, I'd be fine with the bear part, but the mother part was interesting.

I got an Occamy as my Patronus on 3 separate occasions. Shocked the snot outta me.
Seemed like many (most?) of Dumbledore's army succeeded .. 🤔. Not sure Seamus' difficulty is enough to justify the claim of difficulty. Oddly, for a spell that requires a happy anchor, it seems hardship might be a stronger driver. Perhaps necessary to amplify or contrast the happy thought.
Apparition was also stated to be difficult, yet it seemed that most were capable of it. At least of those we know.

That "pure heart" thing seems like a retcon. A Patronus is supposed to represent joy and happiness. Voldemort was unable to feel genuine happiness, so he was unable to cast a Patronus. On the other hand, Umbridge was able to cast one because causing misery and dominating others brought her genuine happiness.

9:25 MYTH. Nowhere in the books does it say that James' patronus was a stag, ONLY that it was his animagus form. You can theorize it if you want, but his patronus form is never stated in the books, so we don't know. People keep repeating this for some reason.
The Patronus animal is pretty much always the same as the animagus form, so it's a safe bet.

I've heard that argument before, but the only example of a known animagus with a matching known patronus is McGonagall, who was/cast a cat in both cases. One example does not make a pattern.
There's also Lupin, but he was a werewolf rather than a wolf animagus, so that's really a different story.
Pottermore gave me a swallow patronous. I was upset at first, until i read into it. Very strong patronous.

Albus Dumbledore in the Deathly Hollows: Part II movie also didn't get a proper shape as it was shown as a green spherical boom. In fairness though, the fact that green was projected would certainly be illustrated of his skill with Petronas Charm. One could imagine at that moment (spoiler) that he was thinking of him & his son reuniting after Grindlevalds' loss at the end of Fantastic Beasts: Secrets of Dumbledore.
