Team Skorpios has flown across the country to Wisconsin to meet with Team Whyachi for an interview with Hydra's infamous Captain and Driver, Jake Ewert.
We take you on a tour through the infamous shop that has built Battlebots legends like Son of Whyachi, Fusion, Falcon, Hydra and more. We ask Jake some of your most pressing questions, including those related to the infamous Bike Rack, how to fight HUGE!, how the one of a kind bot cart that carries Hydra works, and where do you test a Heavyweight Battlebot?
We are also treated to a few special exclusives you can only catch here in this video!

I love how the whyachi team looks super evil and serious on tv, but are the most likeable people in real life, I'd love to have a party with those guys some day, maybe when i enter BattleBots who knows.

He totally seems like a cool dude who just doesn't care what people think about him and his bot and I love it. So many people make him out as a badguy.

@@renegadecomander in fairness I think he caught most of the flack from the HUGE vs Hydra fight. Whilst he didn’t technically break the rules, what he did some considered to be unsportsmanlike. IMO changing your bots to counter your opponent has always been a part of the sport. The problem was with the rule set and not his actions. Arguing with the ref was a bad look but again he was technically well within the rules and felt he had a right to stand his ground.
The thing I learned the most from this episode is how amazing that custom cart for Hydra is. Takes “work smarter, not harder” to its zenith, and is a perfect encapsulation in how Jake and the rest of Team Whyachi approach problem solving. Simply brilliant!
I wonder if other bot builders may order some custom carts from them.
I learned that Jake and Team Whyachi really loves the philosophy of "work smarter, not harder". The use of using the hydrolic lifter that allows Hydra to rotate belly up is such a neat, effective, yet simple way of being able to work on a bot with or without help.
I learned Jake is actually a super nice guy and not a villain at all :D Although I did suspect that already.
I have learned via this episode that everyone would be significantly happier with a chair powered by a death robot's drivetrain
jake is a genuinely a good "villian" for the series and a damn good bot builder. these behind the scenes videos are better than a lot of the fights on the show
They could make it such a better show if they took out 40 minutes of rollouts and gave us actual content of the pits, losers interviews, announcers talking, pre fight prep, ANYTHING besides the same crap over and over and over every single episode.
Get rid of the Faruq intros + long winded rollouts and give us content.
@@spider0804 I would keep the Faruq intros but then skip most of the rollouts and cut to the bots in the box. That alone would save plenty of time.
@@spider0804 I mean something similar to these vlogs would be a great idea as a part of the show itself, just showing the builders in their shops and bit more of themselves. Luckily we have vlogs like these to see more of that.
What I learned is that even though Jake's got his own eBay auctions to run and his own TH-cam/Facebook channels to share the deets on Hydra's secrets, he's still a lovely enough lad to share it all on the Skorpios channel instead, what a swell dude

what i learned was how much work goes into making the inside of hydra look pretty! those anodized parts and Hydra decals are Gorgeous! only hypershock comes close to such beauty on the inside!

I learned how well organized and smart Team Hydra is! I love the lift that makes it easier to access electronics under the robot. Also the vertical spinner for hydra looks really cool
Today I learned that when faced with a strenuous task they'd have to do repeatedly, the Whyachi team decided to instead engineer a solution to make it less physically demanding. They are truly engineers. I also learned about friendship, being a good sport, and the letter W.
To be honest what I learned from this video is I got curious as to how Blip's flipper worked after seeing Hydra and thinking about it's weapon vs Bronco's. It's such a cool and in a way simple design, I love it even more now. Also team Hydra has a really nice cart to carry their robot on, and a whole arena at home. Around 6:00 you are making dents in Jake's floor lol, he might flip you extra for that. 8:28 her shirt is awesome. 10:20 I want cooler Louis C.K.'s chair. 12:20 is hilarious. I just love these videos
Hello team Skorpios! I know this season wasn’t your best but you still put on great shows for the audience and I can’t wait to see you back in season 7! Even though my favorite robot will always be Tombstone since Ray’s bot brought me into the sport, you guys are a close second! Your aggressive driving makes Skorpios really fun to watch! Also you are known as the Tombstone Killer which will definitely give you high respect in the pits! :)
I learned that Hydra’s cart is even cooler than Tombstones and that Jake survives freezing winters in Wisconsin wearing shorts and a tshirt
I learned that the members of Team Whyachi are truly supporters of , and great ambassadors for the sport of combat robotics.
I learned how much goes into Hydra's hydraulic mechanisms. Almost everything is custom built and it's very admirable how much effort they put into it from scatch.
I love how he looks when in a fight when he is losing but i absolutely love how jake acts when he is winning he always cracks me up he seems like a great guy
Wow that really seemed like you had a ton of fun out there with Team Whyachi! Behind the scenes content like this really reminds you that no matter the stories told on TV, the people taking part in them, are are still people at the end of the day. I think the vert attachment for hydra really teaches us that the meta breakers like Huge can themselves be broken by the meta. Verts really do be the way to go. I can see why people are always trying to find ways to break the spinner supremacy

Love the setup! I wish I had that much lab space. I learned how relatively simple concepts, like the chain linkage on the maintenance cart, can be used to help reduce necessary manpower and make the more repetitive tasks (ie maintenance) that much easier. Great video!

I love how Honest Jake is "we're big maybe a little lazy" 😂 the setup for the cart is so effective and shows how easy it is for them to work on Hydra. I'm not going to lie TV definitely has made Jake look like the villian, and I wasn't much of a fan, but this season and video has changed my mind. It would be pretty great to win, my husband started an anniversary collection of Battlebot items and Hydra is one of his favorite teams.
This was my favorite blog episode yet! Thank you Team Skorpios and Whyachi for the Hydra tour! It's really neat seeing how the combat robotics community works together outside of competition. I really liked the explanation of the hydraulic flipper too. I hope to see the anti-HUGE spinner in the box sometime - split HUGE into HUGE pieces XD

I love how much robot combat runs through the team's veins. They have everything needed to build and test out new ideas and practical approaches to solving things. Just fun to watch.
I loved learning about how the hydraulic system works! I want to try to learn how to build a smaller hydraulic flipper myself. you totally perfected it! love watching hydra's fights over and over again! also what a fun way to test the ESCs, by making an RC chair! love team Whyachi's personality! =-)
That lift is so neat I always wondered how it worked watching the robot getting pushed around. Also it is cool that the robot opens upside down and is a really cool way to service it. Definitely a good way to streamline the pits and wish we had that lift for our fist robotics robot we have a wooden kart that we all have to crouch around to service it. And In a 8 by 8 space it gets tight.
Y'all are just so wholesome! I knew there was comradery between the teams in the pits, but the way y'all interact like old friends, joking with Bunny, it just shows what a big family the BattleBots community is. I loved hearing Jake talking about his thoughts on the evolution of the sport and how they've adapted with the times, because while it's easy to want to keep good things going, good engineering is always evolving. That Bot Lifter is so sick! Seems crazy that other teams haven't put their design-oriented brains into creating tools like that to make their lives easier. Anyway, thanks for showing us a glimpse of BattleBots life outside the Box! And for finally discovering that the bolt and nut won't thread (major bummer!)

I think 'YOU SEE BUT YOU DO NOT OBSERVE' is the best term to describe Hydra's secret weapon. No wonder Jake can manage such a complex bot with not so many teammates. BTW I really want that piece of Hydra😜
You guys awesome, I love how teams help each other out and can't wait for next season! I got my 4 year old daughter and 2 year old son to love battle bots aswell, when the battle starts my son has his hands up for the fight fight fight and then he says "GO"
Hey thanks for this video. I learned that if you take a Skorpios driver and Weapons Operator, wearing a Malice shirt bearing Hydra's image, put them on a Biteforce frame, in a Wyatchi shop, they will do Hypershock style drift turns. I did not have this on my Builder Blog Bingo Card.
Its really cool to see the shop, that's quite a setup. I find it really cool that Team Whyachi makes so many parts for other bots. Also Ray Billings threaded his giant nut on to his most destructive bolt (both from the reboot) so it works if they are both new.
This is actually a very cool video its always nice to see the teams hang out
Awesome episode. I did not know they had a battle box outside the shop??!! I also love how proud Jake is of his cart. So cool to see the master engineering that went into it. Smart!
The thing I've learned the most from this video is that Jake is actually a nice guy. Thanks for the vlogs, it's so different seeing them all just goofing around and the camaraderie between the several bot builders you've been showing in these videos.

As for what I learned, it dawned on me just how much manpower it can take just to manipulate one of these bots around for maintenance and repair.
Seeing that spinner attachment i learned that everyone drastically underestimated Jakes creativity when he came up with the bike rack! Never challenge Jake to come up with something more dangerous! Hope we get to see HUGE regret not being pro bike rack soon!
love the interview. love the SOW robot and Hydra designs. there are many great robots but i love the designs made and they are with such damage potential. its always cool to see the inner workings of the robots. the Hydra spinner looks rather mean, i hope you get the chance to test it out one day. the 2st and 2nd gen SOW got my attention/interest very early on. the newer version is just a amazing. keep up the amazing work to interview the BB teams, they are always so insightful.
I’ve always been a Hydra fan, and now I’m a huge a Hydra fan. This video has so many different things that you can learn from that it’s actually kind of hard to pick. But what I did learn that sticks out the most is that you can still have fun and enjoy yourself no matter what sport or hobby you are into. Even if you’re the “Bad Guy”.
One thing I learned was that Team Hydra is lazy with the one-man repair cart. Also, cool to see the vertical spinner attachment and the strategy with it!

Nice to see Hydra on the vlog! I learned that hydraulic-powered-robot-carrying carts are much cooler and more advanced than I ever thought it could be.
I never knew you could use hydraulics for the cart that Jake uses both for loading the bot and even doing maintenance work. Brilliant stuff that definitly seems to make his job a little easier when in the pits! It was a great time having Jake on my podcast for my most recent episode review!
Great recruiting video, great seeing the shops and how they hydra works;)
From what i learned from Jake, Hydra is a bot that genuinely needs a good strategy to go against. Their ground game is outstanding compared to others, and their flipper has shown its great power. The flipping mechanic was shown to be more simpler than I thought and yet it is super powerful! Hope to see more of hydra later on and maybe even see their vertical spinner go into action.
Maybe the next time we get another video with team whyachi we can get an all around video talking about SoW.
My 8yr old son loves Hydra and Scorpios, and he said learning about Hydra's new vertical spinner setup was the coolest thing ever!
I learned that the tools to fix your bot can be just as important as the bot itself. That cart is awesome!

I learned how genius the work trolley for hydra is!
Jake mentioned it in his video about the Ribbot fight, but seeing how easy it is to move a whole bot with one person is so great!

What I learned from this is to always prepare to do things solo. Make things as easy as possible for yourself ! Takes work smarter not harder to a whole other level !

What i learned from watching the video: I think Jake has a hard time with the villain thing. In the video I can see the fun loving combat robot enthusiast and not very much of the battlebots bad boy. Sorry Jake! No disrespect meant at all. Very impressive engineering work and a great representation from one of the first families of combat robotics. Thank you for sharing this, seeing under the hood of hydra was a very enlightening. I think you have made it much harder for everyone to cheer against you. Just stay away from bike racks!
I learned a lot about hydra i didnt know before. I think the cart is an amazing thing and probably really helps. I didnt know that hydras valve system was so complex. Hydra has been my favorite bot since he started. It looks amazing and is one of the few flippers still going. I hope Hydra will be back next year with an incredible bot. "Work smarter, not harder" is amazing advice. I didnt know that Hydra uses fluid in his flipper. I also thought flippers were simple, but now I can tell, they are way more complex then I thought. I also now know how bronco's flipper worked and how blips does. Thanks Jake!
I personally think that it is cool to see some of the behind the scenes work of some of these bots. It's really informative. Like that these bots take a lot of people to keep them up and running, which I assumed but never fully understood. But the main thing I learned when designing a bot for BattleBots, you've got to give it your all to make a machine that will stand out and allow you to win in the competition.

I love the look of the servicing cart Jake showed off. Something like that would certainly come in handy for around the house.
What I took from this video is that the the planning doesn't stop at the box, the engineering doesn't stop at the bot, the game of Combat Robotics doesn't stop at the end of the event. None of it stops at any point, all cogs of the machine turn in unison, and the team needs to be prepped just as much as the bot itself, and these wheels turn before, during and after any event.
You didn't mention anything about how you guys work as a team, but I can tell the planning is there.
This isn't only applicable to BattleBots, either. I started thinking about other stuff as well, like F1, Nascar, air racing, oil drilling, so on. You see and hear some mention of the back end, sure, but there is so much more going on that you never hear about. This video has given me a new perspective on planning and leadership that I will hopefully be able to utilize down the road. All of you guys, thank you for this video. I may have to see about throwing a random box of electronics together and getting it into a competition just to see what happens, even if it means crossing a country border to do it.
Team whyachi got to be THE legendary team of battlebots, such an honor for anyone to meet them. And happy to see the sons take over their father's role, pass on the torch.
That huge attachment for Hydra is nice, turns Hydra into a Swiss army bot. As for me I really liked that rolling hydraulic cart, I used to service medium voltage circuit breakers so the value of having a mobile work table like that is priceless. My takeaway "work smarter not harder". Jake just needs a game of thrones style bot chair to bring him out like Ray has his robot that brings out tombstone.
Very good presentation. New at this & took me forever to find someone explaining the designs & goals. Some teams do not have good spokespersons.

I was today years old when I learned the Whyachi team live on a compound, spend endless hours designing fabricating convenience factors for themselves (nice) and I already know next season is going to fun to watch.
These guys think 2 or 3 steps ahead of there competition, it's what will keep team Wyachi competitive for some time to come.
Stopped by there shop and all I can say they're the coolest bad guys on the planet!

I learned the devil is really in the details under that hydra skin ( jake plays it down) but that engineering is beautiful and would rival hypershock! Top work would love to see some more under the skin bot videos!
I learned that Jake actually does have a soft spot behind that evil grin and laugh. That he is haunted by his past "win" against huge and has a not secret anymore hopeful plan to redeem himself for his involvement in Bike-rack-gate. How cool it would be to see a Huge rematch, one for the ages!

I learnt that Jake is more of a lawful evil kind of guy. He's so controversial and pushes both the rules and boundaries of BB that each fight he's in is guaranteed to be exciting to watch! He's willing to try new and unheard-of technologies for BB, yet he does it in a way that's so simple, I'm surprised no one has thought of using it sooner. Every sport needs a bad guy and he is perfect for this sport. Can't wait to see what improvements he and the rest of Team Whyachi come up with!
What I learned is that the cart is amazing. I'll have to build one if I get involved in battlebots. 😃😃 And that RC test platform looks like a lot of fun!!

Hey GJ here,this is really interesting to watch and I learned that their shop is the McLaren*super and racecars* Factory of Battlebots complete with Arena,clever inventions and Moving Chairs^^
I love the hydraulic work cart that Jake has for Hydra. I have built a lot of special purpose tools since I also usually work alone. The Fusion spinner upgrade is a great option for those "problem children" like Huge or Mammoth. I loved the "bike rack". It showed real problem solving skills. I'm really looking forward to next week's match against Blip. That Hydra wedge would look great on my trophy shelf!

I learned that Jake knows the ins and outs of his robot and how to service it like the back of his hand. Also that cart is the coolest mafudgeing thing ever. Guiness! I love hydra and Jake's willingness to be the villain. And might I say, you make an epic villain.

Team Whyachi and Team Hardcore Robotics have the best bot movers. Always love seeing the snazzy tank tread carrier-bot of Tombstone. Now Ray just needs a lifter on it to make it complete.
Cant wait to see ...eh, Vertdra? anyway, the destruction potential there is going to be fun to see what happens. Gives other teams something to ponder on for a few months.

What I learned in Battlebots school is... how cool Hydra's cart is! Always been curious since you can see it when they wheel the bot out - it's impressive to see a 250lb machine moved around so effortlessly. I love specialized tools like that!
I learned that Team Whyachi is about working smarter not harder, that hydraulic cart is a really great idea for servicing the bot
The fact that there's actually so much thought put into the arms on SOW kinda blew me away, it always seemed like a rather "brutish" design in a way so i didn't expect that at all. Now that i think about it it's rather ovious in the Gigabyte fight, there's a ton on white-golden Ti sparks in that one. Always awesome to see the design work behind bots.
The more I see of Jake and the Ewerts the more I like and respect them. I hope to at least see hydra in the final this year.

That is a awesome way of making a powerful weapon. It is very efficient and works really well. I love the spinner idea. The test driving is very funny. Team whyachi has been going up hill. Hydra has a lot of potential and has a really good chance at the giant nut. Go hydra!
I’ve never gotten a close enough look at Hydra to really appreciate the design. It’s simple where it needs to be, and high-tech elsewhere. Jake made a real work of art here!
