At least with private industry, where competition is the nature, the consumer has some choice in which product they prefer. Companies are incentivized to offer a better product at a lower cost so that they can gain market share and earn as much money as possible.

4:10 Why don't they just use oil for cooking? Why are they not distilling oil themselves into diesel, petroleum spirit and other products? Why are they not running their cars on woodgas? A woodgas car will run on lots of different waste streams including old plastic, agricultural waste etc. There are lots of solutions to fuel shortage which I think they must actually be doing it's just not shown in this video.
@Ned- The problem is that oil is FREE. If it cost the market price, consumers would economize on its use, companies would earn a profit, so could afford to reinvest in improvements, hire more workers, etc. Its the Tragedy of the Commons, with a different kind of property.

It's peculiar to see what people with comfortable lives comment on. Many are making snide remarks about socialism. All I seem to focus on is the suffering of these people & feeling a sense of gratitude for what I DO have.
