id suggest adding a chest seal (hyfin vent) and a hypodermic needle (in sterile pkg). rib fractures and chest penetrating trauma in a slide are common, those above items will help you decompress potential instances of pneumothorax. and they would not take up much room.

@Geoff Levy yes, if there is a tension pneumothorax, needle decompression would be life saving. if there is penetrating chest trauma, a chest seal would help with preventing a tension pneumothorax.

Thank you Neil this is really helpful. And as you mentioned those 2 would take up little to no space and add very little weight to the kit. So the chest seal is super sticky my guess? As there may be hair, mud, snow etc on the surface?

@Geoff Levy cheers guys, doing the same today for my kit. Appreciate the back and forth. Amazing how much stuff in my kit came from hearing what other people carried in theirs.

I would also recommend carrying a few tabs of Benadryl especially if you're guiding and especially in the spring when bees and such are more active. I've had people get bad allergic reactions before and the Benadryl can be very helpful. As to the chest seal and decompressing needle comment, the needle needs to be larger bore, long and hollow to penetrate the chest wall and allow air to escape. A plain needle will not work and a injection needle will likely be too small and short. Chest seals are helpful though in a pinch you can make one out of a piece of plastic taped down on the sides. All of this is on the more advanced side and I would recommend taking the proper medical courses for those reading if you want to learn. I am a doctor in the military so I have a fair amount of experience with this sort of thing.

Any thoughts on Karakoram bindings? I'm in the market right now and can't quite figure out if Spark or Karakoram is better.

Hey Timz, The Jacket is the Patagonia Stormrider Jacket. bit.ly/3umU1cL and the pants are from Quiksilver but they are discontinued and can't find another pair anywhere. Bummer. Time for a new pair of pants next year. These are 3 years old now. Ha I must really like em.

sure I put link in the description. Turns out it's only 30L which really surprised me. If that's truly the case its a huge 30L pack.
