I remember when he said HW 2.5 and existing cameras, etc would be all that is needed for FSD. Then HW3, then HW4, now HW5...
True, but in the public’s eye we all knew the placements of those cameras from the very beginning were not going to be enough. Tesla looks to be finally changing things in HW5, it’s more promising this time
Then there will be hw6. Tesla is like apple, every year some upgrade that actually is not needed and improvements in real life are minimal
Nice update, John, but Aug 8 is just another reveal, not launch of the "robo-taxi" which still requires production and regulatory approval.
That would be extremely disappointing if it’s just “another” reveal. There are tons of robotaxi in China ready and Tesla has just been approved for FSD hands free and pending approval for taxi service within Shanghai. So I don’t think it’s just a reveal, or hopefully not
exactly, just a reveal, John needs to stop hyping all “robo-taxi” and hw5. Not happening in 2024, maybe, maybe 2025 or later.
@heyJohnEe hopefully you're right John, and robo taxis are close to production and implementation in some regions. Regulatory hurdles will remain in many areas for some time, and I think taxis will need to have the ability for human drivers to take over controls for a while still. My point was just that Aug 8 is a reveal, and we don't yet know how close to production Tesla is. Some TH-camrs blindly trusted Elon years ago, saying how Tesla owners would be making so much money from autonomous driving, and we're still waiting many years later.
@jamespaul2587 yeah I hear you, I’m just relaying the word but I take his timeline with a fair grain of salt, for the better or worse. It’s still hard to believe that it’ll be another unveil event, if it is then get ready for massive disappointments
You think it'll come out with Model Y Juniper?
There’s a good chance all the wiring harnesses and components pre-installed for a retrofit once production of HW5 parts reach volume

I'm in a dilemma, should I get a M3P tesla now in July or should I wait until who knows when? Because the M3P was just launched so if it is in 1 year more I don't think I would wait, but rather having the M3P and then maybe selling it and get it a new M3P, if I cash to spare of course. Thanks for the video.
Same dilemna, but if I wait I'll need a car in the meantime because I really need a car now.
It’s definitely a hard call, but if you’re buying a model 3 performance, you’re buying it to drive it and track it. I would think HW5 is less important in this case

One issue that Musk reported was the Power Consumption, going from 2/300Watts to 900Watts, that's starting to get quite significant in Tesla vehicles with smaller batteries.

5 new camaras but only 10x processing? Im going predict a need for hw6 😅
The computer needs to be able to handle 12x camera feeds simultaneously including a possible radar input. 10x last gen should suffice
If you need a car now, I don't see the point of waiting. Elon *never* deliver before schedule, and last month he said 18 months until it will appear on regular cars. When it will appear it might take at least a year until it's used, like hw4 isn't used now.

You might need a car, but no one needs a Tesla. Best to wait if you can, especially when you know HW5 is inevitably coming in a year or so. But I do get your point, Elon is usually wrong with his timing
@@heyJohnEe Elon usually is late . And Elon tweeted no hardware 5 until late 2025. So while your videos are great , this one Elon himself has said is wrong .

The only hardware you need is all cars have FSD with any hardware. Time to eliminate all cars without FSD computers. Also cars communicate with each other (Twitter for cars).

@heyJohnEe He really should offer free hardware upgrades, aftet promising FSD is near for so many years now, and after charging thousands for functionality that isn't here yet.
@jamespaul2587 yeah agreed. But as long as FSD is feature complete with HW3, I think they won’t be upgrading

@kenmasters007 many wouldn't be as they paid thousands of $ years ago for promised FSD, which is still not functioning
autopilot is alreaady perfect on highways, this doesnt really add value for most users.
Although autopilot is good, it’s no where near perfect. And definitely lacking behind in FSD in many ways
@@heyJohnEe my city is filled with potholes and no lanes markings, so it will never matter here in montreal
@mathieusturkenboom fsd does pretty well without lane markings, and will improve on pot holes
This news makes me cringe having picked up a new Tesla this month.
Same goes for everyone including myself, just have to stop paying attention to news and enjoy your new car. Congrats btw!
@@heyJohnEe Good advice John. I ordered mine on 4/23 but haven't got it yet. I know I will enjoy it and when AI5 comes out next year or later I will just trade in again. It's a little more expensive but if you enjoy driving and having the latest technology it's the only way to keep up.

@@MarkTomeh I would estimate about 1/3. After tax incentive you will pick up for around 48k. Drive it for 18 months and sell for 32k. That means it cost you about 900 per month to drive. Subtract for gas and you around 700 per month to drive the car you like. It may not be for everyone but it works for me, and historically i have held on to cars after I pay off the loan. I still have a 2014 V6 Accord that i bought new. I am trading in a M3LR for the M3P. After 2 years of owning it it comes out to about 1000 a month to drive but it was worth it. It's just what works best for you and what you want to drive.
good video but hw5 is not happening until 2025 or later. John is all about the hype now.
