I suggest that when opening a bottle of Miralax you leave on the seal and just put a small hole through it. like I do. This helps so you can fill the cap slowly and not get it all over the place.

I have been taking Miralax for 14 years now and it is the only med that relieves my chronic constipation. I have tried to stop it several times though but as soon ad I do, I become constipated despite having a vegan diet full of fruit n vegs. I think once you start miralax, your body will get used to it for life😊

I am a retired critical care nurse and have turned to Miralax to improve my back end. I take opiates for chronic severe pain. I struggled with constipation since childhood. This medication relieves this and doesn’t cause dependence. For me, it takes about 12-24 hours for the Miralax to work.

I was surprised when the doctor prescribed taking the entire standard sized bottle of Miralax as my colonoscopy prep (along with a few stool softeners). It was so much easier to consume then drinking a gallon of that horrific lemon flavored concoction I had to the first few times.

My recent colonoscopy, for the prep, I had to do two small bottles of Miralax plus take laxatives. Yes, I was cleaned out! I have taken Miralax for years because constipation has been a long time problem for me. Lately I have been taking several stool softeners each day and that seems to keep me pretty normal. I was told (also had an endoscopy when I had the colonoscopy) that I have a big hiatal hernia. I read up on the hiatal hernia and it said that when you strain for bowel movements it actually can enlarge a hiatal hernia! Never knew that! No wonder I have a big hiatal hernia! Constipation is horrible!!!

what one needs is to take the bowel prep in stages until one sees IN BOWL that it is clear water. these jerks generally over prescribe for THEIR CONVENIENCE assuming a certain number of people will not comply to point i describe. for the one colonoscopy i had years ago i took half of what he recommended and when I saw it was clear stopped as it can lead to episode of dehydration get the hiatal hernia fixed it is NO big deal these days done with a serious of very small incisions on abdomen very quick recovery. you need to find a solution of a non drug source if you need to take stool softener daily. chemical overload If you need to lose weight and try paleo or auto immune diet it should turn the trick up to and including resolving hemorrhoids if they are present. will be last to subside but they will.

I also have PD and constipation is a real problem with us, there is no real solution, I do use Mirlax most of the time.

I'm having a colonoscopy in the near future, and my prep is Miralax too. What size bottles did you use? I have to take one container 527 gm of Miralax. I haven't seen that size yet... Also, I was just reading up on hiatal hernias...so much to be watchful for! I hope your hernia can get taken care of! @rachelphelps6347

why are you having a colonoscopy ? there is COLOGUARD which accurately identifies cancer in intestine much more accurately than the FDA would clear it for. If a colorguard tested postive it is the ONLY legitimate reason to proceed to invasive colonoscopy. Make your "doctor" if that is what is he explain why this is necessary; You can talk back t them rachel they work for you and should understand that. Hope all works out good luck

Thank you so much. I am always constipated and use MiraLax sometimes. Now I have peace of mind knowing that it is safe.

Because of a lupus flare, I ended up having chronic constipation. I met with several GIs. Finally, one said try Miralax. Tbh, these doctors didn't want to give me the time of day. Dr. Chung, thank you for being so thorough with your explanation. You have a new sub! 😄

Don’t feel isolated in your experience with doctors not wanting to give you the time of day; it’s the experience the majority of the population is having, regardless of the doctor’s specialty. This profession has sunk to lows I never thought I’d see and I’m embarrassed to admit I was once a nurse.

If your MD doesn't give you the time of day, you need new doctors.
A previous doctor of mine treated me for 2 years for hemorrhoids when, in fact, I stage 4 anal cancer caused by HPV for it went i to my bladder. I had a 2,% chance of living (2016). I found a new doctor who listened to me and I'm 8 yeard in remission

Thank you for this information - I feel better about needing to be on Miralax - and how to titrate it for optimal dosing.

Excellent information. I am so glad i came upon one of your vidoes on youtube. I am 75 and have had hard stools all my life. In my 30's my Doctor said I have a very efficient system that gets all the moisture out. He advised for me to take Metamucil everyday for the rest of my life. I have done that off and on for years with success but still get really hard stool section right at the exit. It is very difficult to get the plug out but then the bulk seems normal. I am going to add the Miralax 1/2 cap daily to see of the hardness is relieved. Thanks for your information!

If it works for you ask your doctor for a script for the generic Polyethylene Glycol 3350, will save you a lot of money since it's cheaper and covered by your insurance. My dr's script was for a large bottle which was 2x the size of a Miralax bottle.
