Sarah Vaughan is my all-time favorite! The control, the phrasing, the RANGE, and the musical choices she makes are all impeccable.

Thank you for such a thoughtful and respectful reaction to Sarah Vaughan's live performance.
I had the great fortune to attend two live performances by Sarah Vaughan in the 1980s. One was in a large auditorium and the other was in a small jazz club (Blues Alley in D.C.). Although Sarah's voice had deepened by this time, she had lost none of her breath control, intonation accuracy, nor vocal control. She still had the ability to captivate the audience with the shear wonder of her talent and magic of her stage presence.
She also exhibited her playful Sassiness in her remarks to the audience and repartee with her musicians between songs. A great example of this is on the recording of Sarah Vaughan Live at Rosy's which captures Sarah's reaction to an audience member requesting her to sing Ella Fitzgerald's seminal hit "A-Tisket A-Tasket." What a hoot! Here is a TH-cam video of this recording: th-cam.com/video/FCbMEEbAySo/w-d-xo.html . I would love to see your reaction to this.

The film, "One Touch of Venus" came out in 1943, the year I was born. For some reason I have had an affinity for this song. I have always watched the film every time it is on late night TV. It's a real fantasy about one man's desire for love.

Eileen Wilson sang Speak Low for the film version of one Touch of Venus, starring Ava Gardner and Robert Walker.

Her lines and the quality of her voice remind me of Charlie Parker's alto sax. She and the Bird, along with Dizzy Gillespie and Max Roach made ensemble in the early 50's and late 40's.

I have been listening to Sarah Vaughan for over 40 years. However, my favorite singer is Billie Holiday. She is the heavyweight that introduced style, feelings, meaning, and purpose.

The greatest singer of all time IMHO. BTW, regarding the nickname "Sassy." In her early career she spent much of her time on the road with Earl Hines' and then Billy Eckstine's bands. Usually, she was the only woman. She dealt with it by becoming "one of the guys." Although she was always very ladylike on stage, when hanging out with the guys she could drink, smoke, and swear with the best of them! And didn't take any stuff from anybody. Hence, "Sass."
I love your speech at the end about the quality of singers from that time compared with too many of today's "talent." And your recognition of the skills of The Divine One.

It would be nice to have your keyboard to place your own introduction music.
