    The torque in Ford's 2.3L Ecoboost (the only way to get a manual transmission) is projected to be almost half that of the 3.6L Pentastar in Jeep Wrangler under 2000 rpm. Is that enough to stop you from buying Bronco?

      No!

      Why not compare 4cly to 4cly. That's like asking for what reason did jeep wrangler have a 4cly turbo would you purchase a 4cly turbo.

      Large amounts of off idle torque are not always your friend in a manual. Bronco will allow for greater control in sand, mud, and off camber situations.

      I was surprised but after the math - hands down it's still the Bronco!

      Agreed! I wonder if Wrangler will even try to compete at the entry level.

    I’m sure that much of the driving experience can be well controlled by using a throttle response curve that differs when in 4 low. Just have it idle at a higher rpm, and really stretch out that steep torque curve to make it feel more linear. Honestly owning an ‘08 JKUR I don’t particularly like that throttle either. Very much a spool it up and let it hop over type of experience, but I think that’s because flattening that curve is more difficult.
    Ultimately, like you said, time will only tell.

      Great point about the throttle response. Thanks.

      Which Ford diesel do you think they would try in the Bronco?

    • @Thekapitan
      @Thekapitan 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@4WDMagazine I believe Ford uses the 2.0L I4 Bi-Turbo Diesel for some of their other SUVs and other cars. I wouldn't be surprised if they ended up using that engine.
      Regardless, there's real competition growing in the off-road market which is a good thing for all of us!

    Great video! Ford has a winner in the new Bronco! Have I mentioned that I wish it had the 5L......? 😂 now if only Toyota would bring back the FJ.

    This video should have used the FCA 2.0L without E-torque and the 8 speed auto. YES, you were comparing manual transmissions, and I myself own two. But, the 3.6L now has that mild hybrid crap added to it for 2021 and that makes all this math much more complicated.

      Excellent comment. I was also looking at what you get in the base models as standard features to see how cheap someone could get into a new good performing off-road 4x4. Almost finished that video.

    A true miser will also consider cost of operation including repairs. That Eco-Bust is a tiny turbo which means it’ll be overworked compared to the Jeep’s larger and naturally aspirated V6, pretty much guaranteeing higher repair and maintenance costs as well as more time in the repair shop for the Ford.

  • @halllwd94

    The only downside to the lower crawl ratio will be it's already massive fuel consumption being much worse having to run engine twice as high to keep up with the jeeps.

    • @4WDMagazine
      @4WDMagazine  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      I think it should be ok on fuel consumption. If you can crawl the Wrangler on a given trail at 1000 rpm, I don't think running the Bronco at 2000 rpm will use much more fuel. Thoughts?

    • @halllwd94
      @halllwd94 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@4WDMagazine well. Take the 4 cyl. of the ecoboost and times that by 2. So you get 8cyl basically worth of fuel consumption. So with that being the case, compared to the wrangler it should consume about 25% more fuel.. But that is my thoughts. I'm just waiting for an electric version. Once they get electric down, Vehicles like this will be obsolete since you'll be able to completely redesign the automobile.

      If you are in 4 LOW and you are worried about speed then just go up a gear to reduce your RPM. 1st gear to 1st gear they should be pretty comparable.

    How do you know how the Bronco performs since you have never driven one. Come back after test drives are available instead of making assumptions. Not everyone buying a Jeep or Bronco will head off road or do rock crawling. The things you failed to include are vehicle looks, comfort and versitility as a family daily driver. Looking at both vehicles. The Bronco is an easy winner
