On this channel we like to do a lot of dogfighting most videos are some sort of dogfight between 2 different aircraft as we explore their different capabilities. From time to time I like to dabble in Virtual Reality, I think VR is a great new technology and I love to show that stuff off for the channel from time to time.

You should have seen how fast the Felon whipped its nose around in the video where GS was flying the Eurofighter against it; the first kill was a gun kill and it happened after the merge. It was one of the coolest, fastest and craziest gun kills I’ve seen in DCS.
That last kill was magnificent. You can see his rudders in full deflection and it's absolutely beautiful
I think that final fight was the best dogfight I've ever seen. Unreal seeing that plane maneuver.

I must say, the Su-57 and the F-22 are both incredible fighters in the way they just seem to defy physics.

I could not imagine being a pilot in a dogfight. Just seeing the Gs go up and down like that, having to maintain airspeed, breathing techniques, and keeping a visual at all times!

Yup. My dad is a fighter pilot. he trains the Air Force in dogfighting. He just surprise attacks them from below, kinda like in top gun maverick, and then climbs into the sun before they see him XD. He uses that tactic especially in an A4 Skyhawk since it's so old. But he's a very good dogfighter as well. He's fought f 22s and f 15s in the old Skyhawk. It's fascinating to hear about all this from an actual fighter pilot's perspective.

I love the viper. Its a 4th gen fighter from the 70s and can still take on advanced super-maneuverable fighter such as the F-22 or Su-57. Just wish it didnt cost me $80…

I would love to see a high off boresight fox-2 fight between a Viper and a Hornet.

@@krap101 Not necessarily. The Viper is king of the 2 circle which is good for guns only, but the Hornet is a 1 circle beast. With fox-2s like the AIM-9X you need to be able to make tight turns to jam the opponent’s WEZ, so the Hornet’s ability to point its nose at the Viper might give it the upper hand.
hornet is crazy in fox2 fight, it just points its nose with the high bore 9x
It's like fighting a gun turret... no matter how quick you run around it, the guns are always pointing at you...
Two lessons from this video.
1. Never ever ever let a Felon get on your six. It will kill you.
2. Never ever ever let a Felon get close to your six. The closer the Felon is, the easier it is for him to kill you.

@reAction yes, but its usually not this difficult to get into a rolling scissors or nose counter and try to get the other plane to overshoot, especially if they were doing rate-fight speeds. most planes cannot sit behind a plane doing < 120 knots and still be able to point their nose like that

Not sure about the felon, but the f22 has a sustained turn rate of 28 degrees per second, in comparison the f16 has 23. Not sure how accurate the 22 is in the rate fight(in DCS), but I would expect something similar for the felon.

I would imagine those numbers are actually pretty classified mate. Both in the f22 and the su57. I’ve heard real pilots say the f22 and the f16 are similar ish but wouldn’t say which was superior. My point being…the exact rate speeds are deff unknown. You can’t even find a real EM diagram on the internet for the f18 Hornet so I doubt any real numbers for the f22 or su57 exist. But you’re right in assuming they probably rate very well.
no doubt that the su57 and f22 are probably capable dogfighters, but those numbers are entirely guesses. the real capabilities are classified. we do know that the f16 was built to be a rate fighter, whereas the 5th gen boys are not.
i'd say that theyre similar enough that it probably comes down to the pilot and other factors in the dogfight rather than the rating capabilities.

Lifelong fan of the F16, Fighting Falcon from the days of yore. Been a fan of the Felon since it's inception. One of the coolest names and looking planes there is. I was rooting for both. Awesome video.

Hey GS, an idea for a new combat format: instead of doing bandit unknown, do a loadout unknown. You and the bandit each have a total of 4 fox3s and 6 fox2s for 5 rounds. Neither of you knows, what the other guy brings to battle. Should be a lot of fun.

Could you please show us ground strafes with different weapon setups from ground perspective? We all know how A10 Brrrt sounds from the ground and looks on target, some even know that for Viper's 20mm, but I really wonder how a 37 mm, 6 x 50 cal., 23 mm MiG-21 and 30 mm MiG-29 long strafes would look and sound on target!

I was at the military parade last year and they flew 10 of them over in formation and I think they have like 14 fighters +2 experimentally I think
There were 8 flying prototypes but some of the rumored to be updated to production level. One of first production batch cradhed in test flight

Considering this Dogfight took forever, you know the Su-57 and a F16 are a good match up.
Very good fight, I think at third round you made critical mistake, otherwise you could win, after the overshot, you may get away by going to rate fight again instead of once circling slow su-57, please do f-22 vs su-57 guns only fight, that would be interesting!!
i think trying to one-circle the slow su-57 was just impatience, or maybe he misjudged.
also a 5th gen guns only fight would be interesting since both planes are not built for gunfighting, and it would be cool to see which one can do it better

F-22 vs Eurofighter: The Raptor has a field day totally wrecking the EF in each round.
Felon vs F-16: F-16 being actually decent and can even win a round.
A fighter from the what, 70s? Still gets it better done than the "4.5 gen" EF (at least in DCS).

Hey you didn't see that F16 is able to shot down an F22 in dogfight. There is an video of Growling sidewinder see on it
its important to note that the 5th gen planes are not built at ALL for gunfights. if i recall correctly, they were about to not even fit guns onto the f22 at first. these planes are built entirely for the one circle fox-2 fight and for stealth in bvr.
the f-16 on the other hand was built literally for only one purpose, and that was the 2-circle / rate fight / gun fight.
that being said, the f-16 is still amazingly capable for how old of a design it is, and its rating capabilities are just as impressive as the 5th-gen fighter's aoa capabilities imo.

Guns only fights are a great way to determine which airframe is best. No extra weapons doing the job for them. Could watch a whole series of these fights...
I’ve come to understand 1 vs 2 circle as 1 circle is a big cat chase while 2 circle is more human vs prey. Big bombastic moves that may or may not pay off vs slowly walking out of the brush for the third time as the prey is huffing for breath.
By turning before passing you are telegraphing your gameplan to an aircraft that can turn inside you 1 circle allowing him to set the tone of the fight.

@@TimelyAbyss no at that point the overshoot is the last chance I had, even tho it wasn't a good option. I was referring to me being slow so when he hit the cobra and I missed the easy gunshot I didn't have the speed to climb and take real advantage of how slow he was in that moment and come around and kill him.

While another great video GS, let's be real here, no one knows what the Su57 can actually do in a dog fight, other then speculation and people seeing a Belle cobra maneuver at an air show. The 3 that are "identified" and two that have been reported to be operational have no real world encounter with any other aircraft to Guage it's abilities.

Here's how I see it; one circle fights are like football with all of the maneuvering and sky gymnastics whereas 2 circle is more like baseball and includes managing and strategy so is much slower paced. My fave sport is baseball so I love 2 circle fights but most people prefer football and more action therefore it makes sense that one circle is favored by them...☺.
If anything, in best out of three, it goes to show that the Viper is still a contender. It's not to be taken lightly.
The person flying the SU-57 does not have enough skill to deal with the great potential of the su-57
F16 with even a modest thrust vector ability would be able to turn its nose up its own tail pipe!
What? Two-circle fights are the most enjoyable for me. It's easy to just pull hard from side to side in one circle.
The F-14 has been my favorite fighter jet forever, but I think the F-16 has taken over that spot lately. The more I learn about it, the more I like it. It's just a genius design!
I do not come for who's got better plane, but understanding GS strategy and tactics is worth everything
In that last round you tried to cause an overshoot but the Felon and Raptor are both good at hanging out at slow speeds while the 16 wants to fall out the sky. what would have happened if you decided to accelerate and outrun his gun range instead?
