Yamaha is faster and more complete than Marantz PM6007. Yamaha has more control over the frequency spectrum and also keeps the rhythm better but also keeps the instruments better separated. I like it better!
I have been trying to choose between the two all month, and I have just ordered the Yamaha I came to the same conclusion, more separation between instruments, vocals seem more forward and slightly clearer, Marantz seemed to slow down the music
I would like to hear the direct sound comparison with the Marantz in the follow up video, unless you have changed your plans. The demonstration was good over TH-cam, and the sound was very sharp and clear. Well done.
I have the R-S300 and the sound is just as awesome as the 501. Great stereo separation. Beefy power, and handles larger floor speakers with ease...and built like a tank just like the 501.
I have been Yamaha buyer from the mid 70's on and power in Yamaha's case is not all about volume it is about clean. Yamaha, strife's for clean, pure sound, hence the term "Natural Sound Amplifier" logo. You will not find a better cleaner pure sounding amp for the money and their build quality is always top notch. The idea is that the amplifier adds nothing to interfere with what the artist intended you to hear.
I bought an AS501 a couple of days ago due to the input switch crapping out on my old AX550 (apparently this is a common problem, some older Arcams suffer with this as well) . I did look at the Marantz PM6007 but the fascia is a bit too busy for my taste, I also had a look at the Denon PMA600NE. I don't know if my ears are 'tuned' to Yamaha amps, but it ticked all of my aural (had to make sure I spelt that correctly) boxes and I like the look of it. Two days in and it's fair to say that I'm chuffed to bits with it. I enjoyed this upload and also checked out your AS501 vs PM6007 upload as well. Subscribed.

Don’t forget, doubling the power makes only a 3db difference in volume. With efficient speakers, you probably won’t hear a difference, unless one of the amps poor quality in comparison to the other.
You won't notice any difference in volume. But if all things equal the yamaha will be understressed compared to the Marantz ... like having a v6 motor in a car u can get up a hill easily. On a 3cyl car u have to put the pedal to the medal. Or it's got to be tuned for high output wich puts more stress on the motor. The loudness is for low volume listening. And possibly a little mid cut if u need it. It's not intended to be a volume knob (basically what you said was the volume knobis supposed to be used like a gain knob. Then use the loudness to control volume?? That makes zero sense to me. I think the manual is poorly translated.) Anyways the loudness is adjustable to YOUR taste. That's what it is for.
I woulld listen the marante too,i got 300 Yamaha i bought because it was cheaper ,but i Ask to myself where are the 50 watts maybe 30 at least, ok it Souf good enought ,but i really think the marantz is one step better. Thank for the video
hi, friend excellent videos. but I have a question. What type of connector does your amp use for the speakers? I have exactly the same model that you have, for the English market. I have placed a banana plug but it does not fit into the hole. greetings Emilio
Hello, sorry about my english,i.m from Romania,i want to ask you, how can i connect my android phone via bluetooth to an marantz like yours pm6007 i like it very much that amp, but does not have an internal bluetooth.Thank you very much!
I find your explanation of the loudness control a little baffling. At whatever volume you prefer, the loudness contour will increasingly boost the lower lows and the higher highs at the expense of the mids. If it was a case of controlling the volume with the loudness knob, well.... there's already a volume knob. This feature ultimately ends up being a midrange control, however unconventional.
Another good video Martin. The Yamaha looks deceptive, as its chassis looks more powerful than your Marantz. I know from owning a Yamaha AV amp previously, that their power specs tend to ne a bit creative. Was the sound different to the Marantz?. I am certain at there will be an affordable amp out there which sounds more powerful.
I had the yamaha as-301 and I thought it was meh. Denon pma800ne was much better. Your speakers are quite sensitive so your other amp will be good and my guess probaly better then the Yam. One more thing turn pure direct off, it sounded way to forward and nasty on my as-301. That's to my ears and my brother agrees. Good vid man 👍
A Yamaha tele van hibával! Nekem volt ilyen, egy szar még subwoofer - al is! Jazz-re jó, drum&bass - re katasztrófa! Eladtam és vettem egy nad c356bee-t ami sokkal jobb, mindenben!
sorry again but it's completely useless to listen to the amplfier through OUR audio system , of course the quality will be different according to what we use when watching your video

Just bought this. I think I am sorted for the next 20 years.
Oh mate the sound on that set up is outstanding! great video 👍
Thanks 👍

new amp with vintage look, I love it

Yeah, if you got 'aural' mixed up with another very similar sounding word, I would've been scratching my head! 😂
Dude, believe me that comparison is important to me too 😀
thanks for this video.. re: leaving the impedance selector alone, does this mean you would leave it as-is even with 4ohm speakers?
Yeah leave it where it is. Gene at Audioholics speaks about it here th-cam.com/video/OWiIL7-Xr8w/w-d-xo.htmlsi=UhohpFMehF2G5tDZ at 5:03
Больше всего мне нравится схемотехника усилителя, симметричное расположение радиаторов и плат, классные ручки, очень хорошо собран..))
Подскажите , что выбрать marantz pm 6007 или yamaha as 501 ?

Would you buy Cambridge or Yamaha
Didn't you review the Marantez NR1200... How's it compare??
I heard Yamaha sold round knobs if you preferred them to the long skinny rectangles. I don't know if it is true.
Is there a link ???
@@dm95422 I heard it on another YT video where someone reviewed one of their amps (A-S x01 series) but this was a while ago.
I have the A-S801! Great amp!
I've heard only good things about 801.
hi, friend
excellent videos.
but I have a question.

The holes are plugged. You just need to remove the plastic plug from the holes. Once they're removed, you can fit in the banana plugs.
I've just done a video on it here th-cam.com/video/MxLBnSrvj1c/w-d-xo.html
hello, what is you opinion about sound quality if you compare it with fosi audio v3? thanks
V3 sounds about as good.
@@UTILITARIANTVUKwow! Can you elaborate on this?
Thanks
@@UTILITARIANTVUK really ?
The reason Yamaha uses vertical knobs is so you can see where they're adjusted from across the room......cheers mate
Now that makes a lot of sense! Good info. 👍

You would need to buy a Bluetooth receiver. The Fosi Audio P3 pre amp with Bluetooth APTX would be a good choice.
People said, Yammy sounds brighter than Marantz, is it right ?
Not in this case.
@@UTILITARIANTVUK I have audit marantz pm6006 for 1 hour in a store.Brighter than yamaha a-s501.And what hifi wrote that pm6007 is brighter than 6006!

Thanks. In my opinion, they don't sound that much different to each other. I've compared them here th-cam.com/video/wklFWyWj0zU/w-d-xo.html
The extra watts will make no difference if the speakers don't require any more watts to play at the desired volume.
Hello! Do you think the Yamaha A-S501 would run the Wharfedale Diamonds 12.4? (8 ohms, 89dbs, 200watt)
The 501 is 85 watts per channel into 8ohms and Wharfedale recommend an amplifier between 30-200 watts. So it should drive them fine.
Thanks!

Loudness control is not on the remote so u got to get up and turn the loudness knob down. Boo
I cant think of any amps that allow this via remote. I could be proved wrong though. IMO, Its not something youd want changed whilst sitting down.
@tonyhall8947: Coming from non remote equipment, that doesn’t bother me.
