I’ve said it before and I’ll say it again…your attention to detail, your informative nature, your pleasant style…..all add up to making each and every one of your videos entertaining and fun. Your passion shines through. Can’t wait for the day when you start traveling across the extensive rail network of Europe. Regards Zoltan
Last time I was in Japan, I took a day trip from Tokyo to Hakone. On the way there, I took the same route you did in the opposite direction. By booking in advance, I got a second row seat at the front of the train. It was one of the older 7000 series trains, since retired. This was one of the Romancecar trains that have the Disney Monorail look. I got some nice video shots, including three other types of Romancecar trains. The train to Gora was the only time I've ridden a train that had switchbacks, which was very interesting. I also took the Funicular to Sounzan. For the return trip, I took a local train from Hakone-Yumoto to Odawara and the Shinkansen back to Tokyo.
I too just caught the upload about 1 minute in and also watched it all. Adam you do a great video and a tasty information salad, I think the open car carriage in NZ is tops, but do understand the limitations of doing a similar thing in Japan. Such a variety of track gauges and rolling stock, seriously interesting track designs for the hills. A real treat mate. Thank you, I needed a ride in the window seat. Cheers from NZ.
17:00 That's the Sobudai-mae Depot. 17:04 That's the Sagami-Ono Depot. Both are more than five kilometers away from Ebina. Thank you so much for giving Odakyu some love! The Romancecars definitely have a special place in my heart.
I AM SO IN LOVE WITH #TOKYO! Honestly, I am happy to be a new sub. I love your attention to detail. I love the fact that you put up photos of everything. I love to see the maps, the prices of everything, the seating, the kiosks, the efficiency of running these brilliant trains. Honestly, if only other travel channels were as precise as you! But your knowledge of where you came from and where you are going is astonishing! 𝐓𝐇𝐀𝐍𝐊 𝐘𝐎𝐔 𝐒𝐎 𝐌𝐔𝐂𝐇 𝐅𝐑𝐎𝐌 𝐒𝐂𝐎𝐓𝐋𝐀𝐍𝐃! ♥♥♥
Wonderful video, thank you for recording this. I've been to Japan ten times but have never travelled on the romance car from Hakone (I've only been to Hakone once!).
Omg Adam! Being a puzzler/ collector/ designer my dream is to visit Hakone & the woodworking craftspeople- especially Karakuri creation group. Lovely part of Japan. Jealous xox
Good to see you coming back to Australia. Was wondering that is if you have already done trips could you do the Brisbane to Sydney train trip and the Sydney to Melbourne train trip. I dont thin i've seen you cover these. thanks. By the way why are still wearing face masks in Japan when the pandemic has somewhat been contained. Keep up the good work
I haven’t done Brisbane to Sydney on the XPT but I have done it on another train (keep an eye out for that one). I have done Melbourne to Sydney on the XPT but that was before I started making these videos. Will certainly keep it in mind. In many Asian countries, face masks predate the pandemic … as in it was customary to wear them, in part to stop spreading viruses to other people, which is very considerate and part of the collectivist approach in some cultures. People wear them not because they have to but because they chose to. 😊 Thanks for watching!
When I visited Hakone, the train line only made it to Hakone Yumoto Station, as the line ahead was damaged by typhoons earlier in the year. Instead, we took a harrowing bus ride up the winding hilly roads, it was still a great trip but I was a bit disappointed I didn't get to take the train all the way up the Hakone Tozan line.
Because the seats in the observation deck (at the very front and very rear), don’t rotate … so that you can enjoy the view through the front/rear window.
Just caught this video about a minute after upload, and watched it all! Wonderful stuff and wonderful perspective, first English video that has properly broken down the journey aboard this train. Found the dual gauge section interesting as well, something I was naïve to think only existed in Oz! 😅 And I reckon riding with the rear view provided better sights than the front view!
Thanks so much! Happy to hear that. Looking forward to your next video (or perhaps I should say video production given the effort you put into them ✌️). Cheers!
Correction thanks to @ramairturbine4326 ... 17:00 is Sōbudai-mae Depot and 17:04 is Sagami-Ōno Depot (rather than Ebina Depot). 😉

Thank you Adam - I do so appreciate your facts & figures (kindred spirits !! ) I bet you wowed & wooed the Japanese ladies with your checked shirts.
Thanks so much! 👔

Nothing like a tasty information salad. 😋 Thank you! Yes, open carriages are hard to beat but pretty rare. Cheers!

Oh right - thank you. I was relying on the location data with each video so the accuracy isn’t 100 per cent.
Yes, love the Romancecars. ☺️
Always good to see a new ‘from the window seat’. Thanks.
Glad you like them. Cheers!
I always enjoy your videos. So much to learn. Thanks for sharing👍✌️
Happy to hear that - cheers!
This train brings back memories. Did a day trip here about 7 years ago in the winter and it was unreal. Great video!
Happy to hear that. Thank you!
Your series of videos on Japanese trains and culture has been fascinating, thanks Adam!
I’m happy to hear that. Thank you!
Great video, always very informative with such attention to detail. Good visuals too, almost feels like you're there. Well done Adam!
Thanks Larry. Yes, I try to make the videos the next best thing to being there ... so happy to hear I succeeded.
I love all the details you provide on your trips, Always nice to know alittle bit more of the places you visit on your train travels thanks adam
Great to hear they’re appreciated. Thank you!

Thank you! ☺️
Hey there, Adam ... really nice, interesting, fun video!! Good job, thank you! [Greetings from Tucson]
Hey. Thanks so much!
Thanks for the informative video Adam. I'll add this train into the itinerary for my next trip to Japan later this year.
Excellent. Hope you love it too!
Wonderful video, thank you for recording this. I've been to Japan ten times but have never travelled on the romance car from Hakone (I've only been to Hakone once!).
Thank you! A great reason to go back! 😉
Great video and content as always Adam. Cheers mate.
Thank so much! ☺️
I love how you pronounce Odawara as if it's in thr Australian outback. 😊
You can take the Aussie out of Australia but you can’t take the Australian out of an Aussie. 🤣

Sounds wonderful. Cheers!
Very interesting thanks
You’re welcome. ☺️
21:28 precisely timed
Happy you noticed that one! 🧳😊
Loving this

Wow … yes, taking a bus up those winding roads would be scary!
❤❤❤❤👍👍👍👍👌👌👌👌
🙏
thanks for the sharing, which side you seating at?
I was sat on the left hand side in the direction of travel (but was sat backwards).
For the return trip to shinjuku, you are in car no.1 right ? And why the sears didnt turn back heading to shinjuku?
