    John, as someone that REALLY wants to see you succeed, I say this with all the love in my heart...why in the world are you taking a full swing on short shots? Go back and watch your swing on that 60 yard and following shot. The club goes all the way back to parallel and then you compensate by decelerating.... I'm confident that if you work on shorter swings for shorter shots, you will see vast improvement in your scores. We are all rooting for you big guy! Keep working at it and you'll get it!!!

      I was thinking the exact same thing, a little more upright with a shorter swing on short shots would do him wonders

      Ask John what shot I wanted him to hit from 60 yards on #2 (instead of the 60° full swing that came up short) …

      Yeah John, what did Tim tell you to hit? Speaking from experience, my game (score) improved vastly when I learned, quarter, half and three quarter swings. Good luck John and Tim, we are all rooting for you!

    Hey John I have a tip. If you are uncomfortable with 60 yard pitch shots try to play around them. What I mean is let’s say you’re on a 490 par 5. On average you hit your driver and then three wood about 430. Instead maybe try driver then 6 iron and then have about 130-140 in. That’s an easy 7 for you. Comfort over distance is sometimes the key to unlock the door.

    • @gregoryv8026
      @gregoryv8026 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      This is what i do. If I sm playing a 550 par 5 and drive the ball 250, I hit my 150 club which is my best club, twice. I know I cant reach in 1 shot so instead of blasting a fairway wood down 220 or 230 and leaving a weird partial swing on for 70 or 80 shot that nobody practices, you hit your confident shot twice and play to your strengths.

    John, as a 21 handicapper, it is so refreshing to see someone duffing around a course like the rest of us. We all strive to get better, but we do what we can! Love your attitude. So good to see ur channel back. I missed u so much. My favorite channel by far on you tube!

  • @robbiesimpson3593
    @robbiesimpson3593 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    John I really want u to succeed but a quick tip. From tee shots to 60 yard shots we can see u hit the ball left with a little draw. That mostly happens when ur feet are aiming to the right and with ur swing u flip the club face to try and direct the ball straight. If u can working on your aiming and not flipping ur hands to much u will notice the ball going straither and not much shape. Keep going John

    I like this video a lot. I've played Valleaire many times and can follow along knowing all the holes. That and my physique and playing style is very similar to yours - I go about 335 with the block right and pull/pull-hook shot pattern you have. You do a lot of things well, especially lower body-wise in your swing. Keep on progressing, it's great to see. We play a number of the same courses; this really adds to the videos.

  • @williamreed7156
    @williamreed7156 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    John...get a patella strap for your knee (not too tight)...it'll stop the discomfort and you'll hit the ball harder (trust me). Second...quit choking your putter....you seize up on it during your strokes. I think about shooting basketball foul shots to get a nice smooth follow-thru. Third...best advice I ever got for around the green chips. Chipping with a 7 iron gives you a shot that is equal distance parts loft and roll...if you want shorter lift and more roll...go down a club or two, if you want longer chip and less roll...go up a club or two. The less I use my finicky wedge around the green...the better I do.

  • @uncabuzz118
    @uncabuzz118 3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

    On your pitches you are taking the club back on the inside. Try going back in a "straight back" motion for better contact and direction. Great to have you back, big guy!

  • @Goldies24
    @Goldies24 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    I'm echoing other comments. John, we're all rooting for you. Your putting is better as you're not flipping your wrists like you used to. Consider at 5:18 you take two really good practice swings - 1/3rd back, 2/3rds through - then over the ball you give up on your follow-though. Several putts you do the same. It likely is a confidence-thing, as you have the ability. On those short shots, use a club you have confidence in - be convinced that you can get it close. Take one or two practice swings and within 2 seconds, hit the ball - don't let yourself get static - keep hips moving even on short shots - just like your shot at 9:58 - all the chips fell in-place. ~another big guy in Florida.

    Nice to see you getting out again. Just remember to swing through the ball and not at the ball, hopefully that will help you not decelerate and commit to each shot. 60 yard shots with wedges, especially lofted ones will drive the ball higher more than further. That mindset may help you not come up short.

    • @billyboi8084

    Plus on hole 8 with you being short sided. Instead of using a wedge, try using a hybrid and using it as a putting stroke. It may take a little time to get used to how you’re hybrid will react and how it will roll/hop over the crap, but it is so effective. It will hop through the shit and it is a much more controllable shot

  • @zoefch

    Just a pointer. You're having issues with your partial shots because of your backswing. Partial shot = partial backswing. You're taking a full backswing and decelerating through the ball to keep from hitting it too far. Great book to read - Dave Pelz's Short Game Bible. He recommends backswings on partial shots using the hands on a clock. 7:30, 9:00, 10:30.

    your lack of distance isn't because of lack of muscles. put the ball further back in your stance and start the downswing with your hips instead of with your arms. as the club lags behind it develops a lot more speed and you will hit the ball 50 yards further AND straighter.

    • @FatGuyGolf
      @FatGuyGolf  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      I know it doesn’t have anything to do with muscles I’m kind of screwing around when I say that.
      It’s all in the hips. More weight I lose better rotation… more distances
