This is exactly what I need. My truck only has four latch points (one in each coner), so I've had to attach my toolbox just before the cab latches, so I can still have access to them. That means I have a thin cap behind my box and the normal large opening in front of it. I need to make myself a cover for both areas. Sadly, I don't have a saw or even a garage to work in. I'm also too dead broke to bother buying power tools. And so, I'm going to have to try a different method to cover my bed. I'm thinking of buying retractable screen and attaching it's base to the front of my toolbox. I'll replace the screen with either a waterproof tarp, or simply cover it in flex paste. Then maybe attach rail guards to the top edges of the bed. And figure out a way to lock it at the tailgate. For the small gap behind the toolbox, a removable sheet of plywood would do. Now that I think of it, I wonder how long and wide retractable advertisement banners cost. 🤔

That's pretty nice and simple! I did a similar one for my Tacoma... might I suggest if you plan on doing another one, since those beds aren't exactly square... before you cut the wood down to the width of the bed, lay out the two pieces on top of the truck bed, and use a pencil to trace along the top (outer edge) of the bed (tailgate up included) around under the bottom of the wood (curves and all) and cut it with a jigsaw... it'll fit like a glove around the top of the truck bed to help keep out the weather! I like how you clamp it down with bungee cords from the inside...
I appreciate the comment! I was going to do exactly that, but not gonna lie I was being lazy lol. I still might do it one of these days but I have too much on the go. I wish I could put up more stuff like this, its a lot of fun and I love the feedback.
I think you could do a routered edge on the underside to make it more flush with the edge of the bed. And maybe some kind of weather stripping to reduce rattle and keep more moisture out?
I spent about $40 on everything, (screws, piano hinge, tarp straps etc) using extra paint and supplies I had kicking around made it cheap. The plywood was also scrap from an old project.
