    In August 2017, i bought a 9 month old 2017 Journey SE 5 seat, 4 banger, with 3100 miles from a dealership out the door price of $15,321, which I think was fair. They had about 8 of them on the lot, They were gathered up from other Dodge Dealerships and used as loaners when customers had to leave their cars for extended repairs. With over 5 years ownership and over 60k miles on it so far so good, I had to replace the battery (which was a pain as it was under the left front fender), the tires, wiper blades, front and rear light bulbs, FOB batteries twice. I take care of all other normal maintenance myself.

      Manufactured in Mexico. A 2009 I looked at 3 days ago the interior and exterior ( showroom quality) was on the scale of 1-10 an 8. A red flag. Then the car lot attendent said nothing needed on this car when we bought it. All I did was the brakes and oil. I changed the oil and painted the Rotors. Isn't that a . red flag? "Painted the Rotors?"

    Hello! I am looking at a 2011 Dodge Journey that is being sold by the owner. The inside and out looks very clean and well taken care of. Only 103,000 miles and he’s asking $4,700.00 for it. He is 100% fine with letting me take it 45 minutes away to have my mechanic check it out. Is an 11 journey with that kind of miles a good buy? And what kind of issues can I expect to see with those kinds of miles? Thanks!

    Is it normal for the v6 model of the Dodge Journey to shake a little bit at idle while in gear? It has like these little tremmers, most people don’t even notice it.

    • @sharpcarco
      @sharpcarco  4 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      It’s very possible it could be normal depending on the mileage and etc. but more than likely you have a broken motor mount and that energy is transferred through the body to your paddle when it’s under load

    Hey Clay, I’m not sure if you’re still responding on this vid (awesome btw) but I’m looking at a 2014 DJ SXT V6, it has 91k mikes for $13,000. I’m going to try to negotiate down to $12,000 but between those two figures do you think that’s fair in this market? It’s been a painful search but the carfax on this vehicle is well maintained, has good tires, and 3 previous owners. KBB put its value between 11-13k. Test drive went well too.

    • @sharpcarco
      @sharpcarco  4 ปีที่แล้ว +5

      Well like anything beauty is in the Eye the beholder. If it runs and drives well and doesn’t have any creepy noises it’s probably OK it’s always a good idea to have stuff checked over I’m certain they will find something wrong with the $3500 car .
      And then the thing you need to ask yourself is can you live with the problem it has and do you need to take care of it right away doesn’t sound like a bad deal to me just about any car that runs and drives is worth at least $2500 in my opinion personally if there’s not too many issues.
      Check things like the tires did they do the oil changes etc. etc. be realistic it is a $3500 car it’s not going to be perfect you never know how long they will last

      My personal opinion is a Toyota or a Honda if you’re looking at something that is old or if it’s something that’s brand new in that situation it really doesn’t make a difference but if you’re looking at something that has over 100,000 miles on it Japanese automobiles will always be my first choice.

      Another guy told me that just the other day and he was Buying a 2012 SXT with 95,000 miles on it for 5500 I told him that that was a pretty good buy in this market I don’t know if 12,000 is steep. I would think for that kind of money you should probably get a used Honda or Toyota with 160,000 miles on it I’m gonna make a video about exactly my feeling on why you should never buy a car between 80,000 and 120,000 miles and in short it’s basically based on a theory that most of the things that are going to break break during them periods of miles so buying something with more than 120,000 miles on it and having the seller tell you that they done X,Y and Z it’s probably better than buying something based upon the miles.
      That’s my opinion and I’ve said that over the years but I’ve never made a video about it but it’s a pretty good basis for a video thank you for asking I think you’ll be fine if you buy it I just think it’s a little bit overpriced and in this market it’s difficult to negotiate generally vehicle sale within a day or two no matter what the miles are on them because there’s so little bit of inventory out there for sale

      New cars depreciate faster than anything on the planet. When you’re in the business of making money or doing whatever it is you do for a living and you can afford to buy a new car certainly a new car is no problem because it’s just a cost in your budget but when you’re living on a somewhat limited income a new car is not really a reasonable choice as far as I’m concerned I personally would never buy a new car unless I had mountains and mountains of money . But I have an advantage over most people I can fix just about anything so I guess I’m a little bit jaded in that perspective but with the invention of TH-cam I also believe anybody else could fix anything it’s only a matter if they want to

    I have a 2009 R/T AWD @73000 KM, recently it started smoking white/really light blue smoke for like a minute on start up and it drove just fine, no coolant loss, no power loss, no overheating, we took it to a mechanic and he said that our spark plugs were flooded with oil, our valves and combustion chambers are also flooded with oil and likely cracked. But it doesn’t overheat, and didn’t smoke when it drove. We fixed that issue with a PCV valve dispite a mechanic telling is we should scrap it or put a new engine in it. Then I finally put insurance back on it because it appeared to be fixed, drove it down a block to put gas in it, and not even a block away from that gas station I heard a weird sound that almost sounded like a parking brake being pulled, and then boom now the thing is smoking all the way down the street really bad, but still no coolant loss, no overheating and it was driving fine dispite the smoke. I have no damn clue what it could be. I really don’t think it’s the cylinders being cracked on a 73,000 KM car and I doubt it’s a head gasket either.

    • @sharpcarco
      @sharpcarco  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      That’s what’s called a broken valve guide seal. Engine oil from the cylinder head that is used to keep the top of the engine oil and lube is leaking down into the cylinder from the seals between the valve .
      It needs surgery I wouldn’t say it’s a complete waste of time it doesn’t have that many miles on it it’s not a easy job at all and probably will cost somewhere between $1500 to 2500 to fix but not the end of the world either.
      Of course this is a text message and I haven’t looked at it it’s possible it could be the rings on the Pistons but I doubt it. If you did what’s called a leak down test you can certainly find out which valve guide it is. Or the piston ring. (Like I said I doubt that it’s a piston ring)
      I hope that information finds you well and I’m sorry to hear that happened to you God bless have the best days

      The Clay Way We tried to take it another block, you can hear the valves ticking and the entire engine is pretty much shot and now it has really bad power loss. Unless I swap a new engine into it the repair cost would be so high it’s not worth it. I’m not sure what to do with it now, it’s not a running car and I can’t repair it, so I guess it’s just scrap.

    I'm looking at getting a 2014 Dodge Journey SE with 187,546 miles on it. I have gotten the full CarFax Report and I have done a title check on it already and everything looks to be good so far. It is selling for $3,700 do you think that is a good deal?

    • @sharpcarco
      @sharpcarco  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Well $3700 for a nice running and driving vehicle is not a bad price. It sounds like you’ve done your due diligence and really that’s about all you can do. With that many miles on it you may be able to find one for 2500 but 3700 is not too far out of line ask them to come down on the price a little bit. I am not a super fan of the dodge journey personally speaking. I would rather have a Toyota or a Honda with 200,000 miles on it personally but try not to overthink it too much I still recommend you ask them to come down on the price a little bit

    • @sharpcarco
      @sharpcarco  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Ya sounds good to me . Actually sounds like a decent deal SXT is the base model though most of the time. But hell with 99,000 miles on it it would be hard to think that it wouldn’t last another 60 or 70,000. I’m not a super huge fan of the dodge journey but nowadays everything is so expensive I sell jeeps with 180,000 miles on them for $8000 pretty much for the last three months

      you want to purchase it . 10% less than clean trade whatever that number they say it is after you add the options etc. etc. that will tell you that it’s a good deal if you pay retail you’re paying too much this is just a guideline that I use you can obviously pay what you think is fair but that’s how I do it

    I must strongly disagree with you on wheel bearings, they were never built to where out. 999 out of 1K cars in junkyards have the original wheel bearings in them. It was a rare find to have one fail in a properly maintained car. In MOST cases they will start to howl long before they actually have enough "play" before they fail.
    Point of interest. In the past, cars NY State, as part of the safety inspection, ball joints alone, were a specific point of inspection for pass/fail. BUT because back then Chrysler was producing ball joints with enough slack in them, that just after a couple of K miles they would fail to pass the specific requirements. Chrysler claimed that they where still strong enough to be safe and that they were 'designed' that way to improve the 'quality of the ride. ???
    Another interesting thing that I would like to mention, THE HEATER CORE!!!
    I nearly dropped my Diet Coke Zero, [ not my Diet Coke/JD, which would of been a sin], when you mentioned that there may be a problem with not enough heat because the heater core may be clogged. You could try flushing it out with a garden hose, [some one call Houdini ], but that it would clog up again. So replacing the core would be the way to go. But to do that the entire dash would have to be removed including the climate control box which entails recovering and recharging the A/C system.
    Well that will only last less time then the age of the car, and chances are that you will have to soon service / replace the radiator.
    It seems that the engineers at Chrysler like using a casting compound, [ I'm not sure that is the right term ], that doesn't shake out of the block. The compound tends to cling to the water jackets and over time tends to loosen and travel thru the cooling system and deposits in tiny spaces, ie. heater cores and radiators. This was some thing that happened a lot in the 70's and 80's in Chrysler's big block engines.

      What do you think of pentastar v6s?

    • @Powertoolz
      @Powertoolz 4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      16-18 are a bit better. The earlier pentastar had cyclinder head failures, ticking from worn rocker arms (cheap fix if caught earlier) and prone to coolant leaks(cheap plastic). By 2016 most of these were revised.
      The transmission 6 speed suffered from stalling and poor/no shifting at high mileage. The main computer had rare failures.
      Get one past 2015, low mileage and have a gameplan ($$$)past 100k miles. The good is they are really cheap to buy and parts are only slightly above average.

  • @arron-oz9vb
