      He meant about his experience. Of course he's a "better" player because of it, he knows much more than in 2006. That doesn't mean he wins more, and anyone who watched him can say that a lot of his shots were better in 2005 than now.

    If he had shown the same kind of mental strength at IW 18, IW 19 and Wim 19 like he showed vs Berdych at Miami 17, things could have been so different

    • @Molybdaenmornell
      @Molybdaenmornell 3 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      Yes, mental strength/confidence is a fickle thing and I'm not sure it decided the outcome in those matches. It might have made the losses possible, but if a player gets to match points, all explanations for them being bound to lose are mistaken, because a bound-to-lose player never gets that close to winning. Wimbledon 2019 was a few inches from being Federer's. That first serve at 40-15 hit the tape and would very likely have been an ace.

    He said himself that a 2006 RF would beat the 2017 version. Mostly because of his speed/defensive qualities. But surely he played some miraculous tennis that season. I will also remember Halle 2017, Rotterdam 2018 , Basel 2019 and Wimbledon 2019 (even though he lost).

    Federer's 2017 season has become a must see video for anyone wanting to know what excellence in any given sport looks like, and a cautionary tale for young tennis players about what happens when someone plays beyond his means. As wonderful as it was to watch, that kind of level became physically unsustainable.
