I have a similar setup, I used some loose potting mix in a 200 deep pot sat on top of the media and it seems to be just enough to wick up to the mature plants. Great for the fruit to hang over and easy for my kids to find... I have only tasted some of the first berries I grew and the kids now beat me to them. Do you have worms in the system?
G'day Aussie , thats great that the the kids love fresh fruit from your garden, definitely there will be a few worms around, the garden is full of worms, escapees from my worm farms.
