On "Destiny doesn't feel mysterious etc..." I agree. In the process of ending the light v dark saga they effectively wrapped up all the stories they were telling and explored most the things in the system.
That said, there is still a bunch in the lore that they could bring to the game and/or introduce from outside the Sol system. But with the change to campaigns and Bungie tending to take the easy path, I have little faith they will be putting in the required effort to create new stories/lore/mystery in the game. I hope I'm wrong.

@@karson2022because Bungie doesn’t really take a lot of risks in storytelling or for Destiny in general for that matter. Coming from someone who’s been very involved with the franchise since D1 beta, I don’t see how they could continue the game after TFS. The Echoes story is very eh. The game overall is very easy. I’m not holding my breath with Bungie anymore. They just do the same things for the most part and randomly get their shit together when the game is in a horrendous state and they need to make people happy again

@@karson2022 most people would agree Destiny has been going downhill in recent years and that makes most people think Bungie is just coasting on Destiny while they spend most of their income/resources on other projects. TFS was fun for a week or two and that was it. Our new subclass was just all the old subclasses mashed together. They have been on autopilot taking their community for granted. It's apparent for anyone who has been paying attention. ANY bug that benefits players is fixed IMMEDIATELY while bugs that harm player experience often times get ignored for months/years. They claim these things take time but it's funny how fast positive bugs get fixed and on the other hand how bugs like insta death from a bell in duality has existed since it was added to the game. Autopilot has been on for so long they probably don't even know how to manually fly the plane anymore.

@@ledzep1023 That still doesnt really explain the 'easy route' in truth none of us know what the hell any of this is going to look like. It seems like they are at least saying they are gonna try but they have said that before. so really they arent taking the easy route, or at least it is far too early for us to tell so saying that from what we have gotten is just ignorance or a dislike of the game. I am just in the boat of 'wait and see'

Problem is, the VAST majority of the lore has been hidden in lore pages that just pop up by doing the seasonal content. That lore's great, but I'm not gonna spend a 100 hours reading it. Next to nothing is integrated into the game.

With them using "tiers" of legendary weapons, it just makes me think,
"don't you have THREE actual visual tiers of items already?"
It makes me think that all blue, and green items go to white/common, and green becomes "tier 1" of a weapon, with ascending tiers meaning the ascending ranks.
I realize there are 5 (at least) tiers right now, but it could be narrowed down to 3 or new VISUAL colors/tiers on weapons could be made.
I just feel like having FIVE tiers to every legendary item would make it confusing for new players. There is no visual indication whether a certain weapon is tier 1 or 5 (apart from masterworking, but that can be done to any legendary).

This does not sound like the "we are so back" the Destiny Cycle would normaly have at a point like this (if you've played the game for the last few years yk what Im talking about), but rather bungie saying: "Okay we see some problems, we have some ideas to tackle them, but we might scrap everything and do it an other way."
To me this is interesting because it falls in line with some other recent changes etc., (for example) the nerfs/buffs to some exos when Final Shape launched, not overdone in one way or the other but hit the spot pretty good and felt resonable.
What Im trying to say is: it feels like the really care and want to actualy find a "final" solution and not just a temporary band aid fix (wich they would have to come back to at some point anyways).

Saying Bungie will do this or that is just a waste of time. I doubt even the Bungie team know what'll happen to the very company they work for. Well the Apollo expansion format sounds neat. Non-linear character based story… If they can pull it off it really will be innovative for Destiny and make it feel like a fresh start. It’s all about execution though.
Love the idea that they are going to try different stuff each expansion, focusing on Metroidvania types of exploration, survival shooter, ect. It’s clear that once in awhile that big change per expansion might night always hit with the community but it’s clear the status-quo will not work any longer and you need to risk big to win big. If that means a loss here and there… it’s worth it.
Cautiously excited… still don’t plan on playing too much between now and the fresh start though unless someone of this year’s remaining episodes pop off.

I feel really strongly about the "sense of mystery and wonder" Destiny has to offer. I often go back to Destiny 1 to see if I get the same sense of wonder from just sitting in random locations and taking in the environment. I have to say, the environmental storytelling and attention to detail in Destiny 1 is INSANE.
I've had people that played Destiny 2 first go and try D1, and they had similar things to say so I can't be purely clouded by nostalgia, and my understanding of game development allows me to analyse these games with less rose tinted glasses.
You can analyse the environment and your imagination runs wild without having a character yapping exposition or nonsense into your ear in an annoying enthusiastic tone, and just focus on the ambience and interesting background music.
("Guardians Lost" and "The Journey Home" being my favourite examples, Destiny 2 does not have enough of this type of unique, dare I say "experimental?" music, even the action tracks had a vibe D2 just doesn't have anymore)
The positions of skeletons tells you what they were doing before they were shot in the ribcage with a bolt of plasma or starved to death after locking themselves in the Ishtar Archives. The wildlife on Venus and Hive locations reinforce the idea that life goes on in these worlds wether you are there or not. Attention to real life phenomena and science such as Venus' sulphur pools, burning blue sulphuric volcanoes, warm and tropical yet hostile flora. You can feel the oppressive and mysteriously vast military power of the Cabal and their occupation on Mars and Phobos (seriously, I couldn't believe these guys somehow lost their homeworld OFF-SCREEN, these guys were nerfed HARD).
The only locations in Destiny 2 I recall somewhat giving this effect were Titan (now removed along with its best strike ever), The Reef (also removed, though the Forsaken campaign's writing hindered the purity of it), the Dreaming City (also hindered by Forsaken's writing), and Savathun's Throne World (the one DLC where I have almost no complaints in terms of the actual content delivered)
I also liked how the fantasy and advanced tech had limits. Setting up and getting Transmat working was a big thing, almost every ship had a modern/scrappy shuttle look, and most gear was militaristic and practical rather than bits of cloth with some plasticky or super shiny armour on top. It was clear our understanding of alien tech and "magic" was super limited as gear that utilized it was usually human gear with the alien tech whackily put together to make some contraption that looked menacing and cool.
This allowed factions like the Awoken who had friendly ties with the Fallen to have aesthetics that stood out (Awoken ships and weapons etc.) because they could communicate engineering with each other in a way that wasn't shooting them and stealing their equipment you hardly understand.
I believe this stuff was mostly the work of the Bungie employees who've been around since the Halo days, which would make sense as to why we saw less and less of it after Destiny 2's release. I'd love to know what you guys in the comments think about all this.
(sorry if this comment ends up posted twice, I think it failed to post the first time)

I might be in the minority but Destiny 2 gave me that "sense of mystery and wonder" rather than D1. Being real, I don't think any game, but especially a looter shooter, can keep that long term. If you are making me grind for some rare drop, all of that goes out the window, as I cease to care about anything other than loot efficiency. @@DawnSentinelit may be smaller scale, but I think Tom Clancy’s the Division 1 and 2 both kept the intrigue alive very well and they are very similar to Destiny at least in terms of the campaign and looter shooter experience, where the main goal is to beat the campaign so you can get to grinding “the perfect gear”. The peak of this intrigue and atmosphere was in the Survival DLC and while Massive and Ubisoft have never quite managed to make an experience like that since, it’s still very much alive in The Division 2

If Bungie is going back to Dungeons being part of the Expansions, that's huge.

If they are really going to reintroduce content vaulting, they *need* to make a sort of "Destiny 2: Vault of Memories" standalone game, that does not need to connect to a proprietary server on Bungie's side, where old content is bundled up into packages (like "The Red War", "Curse of Osiris", "Warmind", etc.) and players can simply choose which packages to install. That way, no content is ever lost.

My problem with difficulty in destiny is that as long as there are exclusive rewards to the highest difficulty possible it will be the only relevant difficulty. They should consider helldivers 2 difficulty settings where the final rarity of sample is exclusive to the highest 3 levels but challenging yourself gives you only marginally more rewards. It’s not that you have to do the top highest difficulty to complete the game but that you must challenge yourself to try to get there and the better you do you progress a little quicker

I don't think it's a problem that the highest difficultly offers exclusive rewards. You should strive to master the game and get those rewards. I don't think those rewards are mandatory either - if you aren't doing difficult content, you dont need to use the best gear

  • @chef416
    @chef416 3 หลายเดือนก่อน +3

I think some of the plans sound better than I expected them to, difficult to trust that they'll follow up on them though. I really think we need more systems returning from D1 such as raid gear being BiS, exotics that actually drop instead of everything being tied to a quest so there's a reason to actually grind activities, and Xur (or some other exotic/special vendor) being somewhat relevant again because right now he doesn't even have a practical reason to exist.
The biggest thing that I think absolutely has to change is the awful catch-up mechanic Bungie added that kicks in with every major update. There is no reason at all that a new player should be on the doorstep to endgame the instant they create their character and finish the tutorial, right now there is no feeling of progression or way to understand the universe at all. Destiny 1 avoided this issue by simply making people progress through the game as a brand new character starting with minimal stats and getting stronger as they beat more of the game, if that doesn't return in some capacity then I don't have very high hopes for the future of Destiny at all.
Also want to add that upon purchasing the most recent expansion players should definitely receive every expansion added prior to it. The fact that they have to be bought separately at ridiculous prices while most content from older ones has either been removed or is completely irrelevant is insane, all to access a handful of exotics and not get cucked out of nightfalls. I am certain that this current absurd system severely damages the amount of new players getting into Destiny. The game might actually start gaining players faster than it loses them for the first time in forever if this changes.

I just really hope they fix the issue of patrol locations feeling obsolete once you finish an expansion. There are planets I almost never go back to anymore because I finished the campaign. 99% of what I do now is launched straight from the Director or from Playlists, instead of dropping onto a planet and finding it in the world. No, the random modifiers in WoW Mythic + are set on a weekly basis. This changed quite a bit during the addons but it was for the most part like this. You had 1 modifer that was either Stronger Bosses or Stronger Trash that switched each week. 2 Gameplay Modifiers, like dead trash buffs others, Dmg zones spawning under you, dead mobs create ghosts that hunt random players usw. The last one was removed for the majority of Dragonflight, that was the Seasonal Modifer. It was themed after the active content. For example the last one that existed, the Season 1 Dragonflight one, was that the Final Boss of the Current Raid would buff your party and if you wouldnt cancel the buff by running into another player bevor it ran out, it would stun you for a deadly amount of time. And yeah, it was a buff, she made you do more dmg. But like is said, fuck it up, and you are basically done.

The reason why there will be less campaign experiences is because we are going outside or immediate narratives. Everything in Sol was about us, but not us exploring the universe; not everything is bound to be about us, or rather, not about us going to new locations because we are immediately tied to them. What if we go to a new "frontier" and have nothing to do with that planet but then are swept up into having to reconcile differences with whatever lurks on those planets to prevent emergent conflict with the natives? What if we go to a dormant planet that somehow awakens in our presence being there? These are much more compelling scenarios rather than always being on the defensive. Humanity has lost its sense of exploration and has been sheltered. Now in a time of seemingly less restrictive boundaries, we should be having space adventures and making discoveries. Having campaigns for the sake of having campaigns because big bad is doing a big bad thing isn't compelling after we just got off a 10 year narrative of being defensive. Let your wonder wander, let us find other interesting things to do.
Also, having the expansions be non-linear and letting you start at point A and meander to point Z and then to point B and so on and so forth will be good for content creators because that means every person could be doing different goals making the streaming and CC communities a lot more varied on release. What if Datto finds a quest that leads to a super hidden exotic but Aztecross finds a route to a new activity (I seriously think Bungie was testing that with the hidden quest node in Act 1)

Europa has LOTS of paths to go down, but in Open World exploration there's nothing there. Put enemies or event triggers down those paths that spawn public events (as in everyone on that instance of the map could participate, not a normal capital P Public Event) like a boss or a puzzle or unlockable/collectable. Maybe Atrax could spawn in anywhere in the system randomly like an enemy Xur. I dunno. USE THE SPACE to make the world The World, and not just an arena where stuff happens this season.

This seems like a pitch doc honestly, a bunch of ideas that are cool but obviously not 100% thought through.
Also, as a GM player, I gotta say that I big disagree with the idea that we shouldn't be able to get the best gear with currencies.
Destiny works on two fronts: immediate rewards and long-term rewards, and the various currencies you for playing long term. They allow every activity to be rewarding by giving you a little bit, so that eventually you can cash out on something you want.
Remove any need for materials, and power hungry players have like 3 activities to play while they level, which would create an even larger rift in the player base. At least now, when I do a Master Nightfall with my lower level friends, I'm still getting Ascendant Shards which can help me build better into GM nightfalls and such. If I'm not getting better gear, I'm not doing anything other than the highest activity, in which case I will never see a new player and they may as well not exist to me.

The way I interpreted the change to the purpose of crafted weapons and the introduction of weapon tiers, is that, is that weapon tiers replace or add onto the enhancing system we got in TFS, and the final tier of the weapon is objectively better than a crafted roll (though I do feel like a bigger incentive would be like enhanced perks 2.0, where they are better than crafted ones, so players have motivation to chase them), but perhaps weapon tiers are only available to ‘new weapons’ (I.e. from either the current expansion or update), so for those who either missed out on those weapons, didn’t get the godroll to enhance or weren’t ‘skilled’ (subjective) enough or had a team to get the highest tier.
Personally I see weapon tiers as being a really cool pursuit for those who delve into both PvP and PvE (me), because the stat boosts you would get from enhanced mag and barrels would make a genuine improvement to playing. For example, either the range bonus from rifled barrel would increase or the handling demerit was decreased. I can’t see much of a benefit of enhanced mags and barrels in PvE aside from weapon feel for controller and console and perhaps a situation (for example) where enhanced flared magwell has so much reload that I never have to consider using a glove reload mod ever again. But then again, who doesn’t want a bit more range, a bit more stability, handling and reload? That being said I’m not sure if an enhanced mag, barrel and origin trait would be enough to motivate those who wouldn’t otherwise devour the challenge Bungie presents us, unless the origin trait is already cracked (looking at you Cursed Thrall). Perhaps instead of a simple +2 to all stats aside from masterwork you get from enhanced and crafted weapons at lv20, it’s a +4 or +5 or goes up with weapon tier.
Rant over (at least for this comment).

we need a core rogue-like mode (a la the coil) with a new "map" every season that doesn't go away and has updated rewards.

I liked having the campaigns but they were terrible at a couple of things
    - Delivering a satisfying extended campaign with an engaged player experience outside of just doing missions
    - Teching players how to engage in the games content after completing the campaign

Imo, the ball is in Bungie’s court right now, they need to cook and it sounds like they are, it’s time to move passed the vitriol and get to work. I think this huge drop was a really good idea. We needed info and they gave us at the very least a start. I’m very optimistic.

On the topic of difficulty...I want them to add contest mode to raids for those who want to practice. Obviously keep the emblem exclusive to day 1 but I want to be able to say I did some of these on contest and get that practice

An idea to add loot chase back while keeping crafted weapons, would be that you can only craft a perk into a weapon, if you’ve gotten that perk from a drop. So if a weapon has bait and switch for example, you can only put bait and switch on your crafted weapon once you’ve got bait and switch to drop organically

Would like to see more people talking about the wording in roadmap under expansion. It states an expansion will include raids and dungeons plural under the expansion singular tab. It implies that one expansion could contain more than one raid and dungeon which seems very unlikely but... why is it written like that. I just want clarification on how many raids we are getting a year or a conversation around it but currently online not many people are talking about it.

Loot is the main issue in destiny. Engram focusing crafting and target farming as a whole in their current states hurts the game and makes Loot feel stale. Engram focusing is far too prevalent and should be dialed way back. Crafting is obviously making random Loot drops feel obsolete and while I don't think the system needs to go I'd like to see perks for crafted weapons be separated from the random drop pool. Finally, Target farming is fine on its own but with all these together its just too much currently.

Controversial but I don't want more challenge. I want the base game to be fun. Because of work I don't have a lot of time. I want to jump in, play and jump back out. The game should be average difficulty and allow you to make it more difficult like they are suggesting.

TLDR of the day, all the streamers and influencers need to quit doom posting until something is actually announced. This actually seems pretty promising honestly. I'll miss having a narrative campaign simply because the characters are so likable, but I'd honestly love to see if they are able to bring back some of the sense of mystery like in D1 when all the lore seemed so interesting scattered about.

When ritual weapons were introduced, it was under the premise that they would be "80% of a God roll". They should have taken a similar approach to crafting. Allow you to craft the roll you want, but no option to enhance perks. As good as it may be, there would still be a better, enhanced version out there you could grind for.

With the tiers, something interesting or a possible outcome/fix is the tier is the amount of enhanced perks. Tier 1 allows you to enhance a single perk of your choice, where tier 5 allows for 5 enhanced perks. Allows people to feel like they can improve what they got, but if they chase harder content to get the higher tier, they're rewarded with a higher ceiling for the weapon/armor
