  • For the second year in a row, we have hatched a beautiful clutch of Vietnamese Blue Beauty rat snakes! But unlike last year's babies, this year's are surprisingly friendly!

    I just wanted to say thank you to Snake Discovery for helping me so much. I loved snakes so much as a kid, but then my mental health took a turn and all the things I found enjoyment in no longer brought me those same feelings. I really struggled with it for years before it started improving back in 2018/2019. I found your channel around that time, and it reignited that passion and love of snakes that I had lost. And today I got my acceptance letter to pre-veterinary medicine for the college's wildlife veterinary program! I'm planning on making my career rescuing and rehabilitating animals (focusing on snakes) and it's all because of you. So thank you, Snake Discovery, for making me remember what I had lost and helping me to figure out what I wanted to do with my life. I couldn't have done it without you ❤

      in the rescue for my area, for the most part its made so that the animals would be fine to stay put for floods and bad weather but for fires we have people on standby and a large truck to get them all out and in a foster home. so they probably have something similar.

    I wonder if the unexpectedly chill temperament is something to do with how they were all huddled together in that little box for a while after they hatched. They got to feel secure and experience the benefit of safety in numbers.

    Heyo, Snake Discovery, heads up! Those yellow mushrooms are common contaminants of potting soil in the US, they're native to tropical areas. They're usually called yellow flowerpot mushrooms or yellow parasol mushrooms. They're harmless UNLESS SOMETHING TRIES TO EAT THEM, then they can cause digestive problems. Like you said, they should be fine in any bioactive enclosure, but if you've got any animals that like to eat anything they come across, probably best to get rid of the fruiting bodies (mushroom caps and stems) when they appear. ^^;
    In houseplant horticulture, they're usually a sign that you're overwatering your plants, but since you WANT very high humidity in some enclosures, it may well just be a sign that your enclosure is extra humid and tropical.
    So yeah, yellow parasol mushrooms, safe unless ingested. They're kind of powdery too. So, harmless but if you've got animals with sensitive respiratory issues that might be bothered by spores, or animals that like to chomp on anything whether it's food or not, consider removing the fruiting bodies! :D

      Would you recommend removing them in a snail enclosure

    • @fenus609
      @fenus609 ปีที่แล้ว +37

      Yeah I hope they are careful. I had mushrooms once but I removed them because I don't feel safe having them with my geckos. Just a reminder for me to clean more and keep things drained while having high humidity.

    • @liataislibrary6667
      @liataislibrary6667 ปีที่แล้ว +50

      @@welcome_to_nowhere The snails will probably avoid them, but just to be safe, probably not a bad idea to remove them. I can't imagine they'd taste that good to a snail, anyway.

    My family terrorized me with snakes and spiders, to the point of actually throwing a dead bull snake at me n yelling, "Rattler!", when we lived in an area full of rattlesnakes. Watching your channel, and Tarantula Kat's, has helped me so much that when I found a baby garter in our yard, I put it on my back porch n fed it chopped worms, until it was able to slither off n feed itself. Wouldn't have imagined doing that without seeing snakes the way y'all do, n now my kids are growing up excited by animals that terrified me. Thank y'all. So much.❤❤

He put a dime in the gumball machine to get me a ring on his way home from work. Unfortunately, it was a plastic spider ring. He put a string on it and hung it above my head, and I lost it when I woke up in the middle of the night. That was in the early 70s, and I still have a fear and hatred of spiders. But I Love ❤ snakes. 🐍

      Tornado sirens are a near daily threat in the midwest during the summer lol. Tornadoes are not something to take lightly of course, but also the sirens are common enough it's more of a loud annoyance than anything. I'm sure they're taking steps to be safe, and the facility is a big concrete building.

    • @harmonicaveronica
      @harmonicaveronica ปีที่แล้ว +13

      I live about 20 minutes away from there so I can usually tell based on the weather how long ago they filmed. I haven't watched the full video yet, but if they were filming during the day it was a monthly siren test. If they were filming at night, the severe weather/tornadoes were in the northwest part of the metro, but the facility is in the east metro

    • @lemondropcentral14
      @lemondropcentral14 ปีที่แล้ว +8

      Here in the Midwest, (I live a few miles south of their facility) we test our tornado sirens on the first Wednesday of every month, so it could have been that. I know we had some severe weather a few months ago, so assuming this video was filmed far in advance, it could have been during that time. But I don't think the weather was severe enough to cause damage in that area. So everyone should be safe and sound! Severe storms are part of the norm here :)

    • @kaciek6893
      @kaciek6893 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      I learned that the UK actually has more tornadoes than the Midwest

    • @snakewithapen5489
      @snakewithapen5489 ปีที่แล้ว +6

      @@kaciek6893 I might be missing some information, but I don't think that's true. The BBC says that the UK "recieves 30-50 tornadoes a year." While the USA national weather service says "800 tornadoes are reported nationwide."
      Tornadoes are more common in the US than in any other country. The country with the second most tornadoes is Canada. Tornado-causing storms are generally a lot larger and more violent in the US, which is because they have a lot more space to spawn over, and conflicting polar vortex winds. Living in Missouri during the summer really does feel like experiencing the wrath of some diety lol

    I think I remember you guys saying in the video about this clutch, that it was a lucky clutch because there were 13. Or maybe it’s just what I thought at the time. But either way how adorable. I could watch Emily trying (and failing) to contain 13 snakes a million times, what an adventure! 😂

    Me and my 4yr old love your channel. We don't own a snake (even though he wants one) but you have educated us on how gorgeous snakes and reptiles can be. My favourite are blue beauty's so I was so excited when this just popped up. His favourite is obviously rex cause he says she is cheeky like him 🤣. He even phoned his nanna earlier and asked asked if she would pay for him to fly over to see Rex, Emily and Ed because i said we couldn't visit you as it was too expensive. 🤣
    Keep up the good work guys and I can't wait to show my little one in the morning . Love Haley and Freddie Cook from the Midlands UK.
    Ps. Please please please could you give my little boy a shout out on your next video. It would mean the absolute world to him. 🥰

    I had just been talking with a cousin in the UK which is likely why the way Emily gestured 2 years really took me by surprise. I don't know how many UK or other country viewers, but that isn't always the nicest way to gesture depending where you are at.

    It's always cool to see snakes from all over the world. You've got some real pretty ones! We're not allowed to import reptiles from outside Australia, which is a shame, but we have some real pretty native species here too.
