I’m a Toyota guy, but dude - you did a great job at tastefully modding this JKU. It needs a winch IMO especially because you can get a synthetic one for like $400 but There isn’t a single tacky mod on your jeep and those stock wheels keep the look very clean.
Colby Butler ever seen a “riced out” Honda? Tacky mods are often appliqué pieces that serve no function other than to add aesthetic value in a way that could be viewed as tacky. He doesn’t have any wheels that I would say look tacky (most wheels sold from tire shops are gross and tacky IMO, with fake headlocks, rockstar patterns and all these jagged edge spokes and color matched accents).
Colby Butler his Jeep has a very “strictly business” look, especially with those stock wheels. His Jeep says “hey, everything I’ve done to this thing serves a great purpose and it is now more capable than ever”. Aside from his front stinger bar, it’s almost like he has an “OEM+” look going on. Basically, OEM but on steroids.
While you are at it, better add some extra gear/accessories for that winch. tow strap, ratchet straps, rope, gloves, Snatch block (is a life saver)...I have had the misfortune of "christening" mine on the trail and I was glad I planned ahead. get at least a 9k winch . I have a 12, but a 9 or 10 will do fine. Synthetic vs Metal...you decide. I personally like synthetic. Lighter, less wear, no rust, less danger of removing your limbs if it snaps.
To save some time... 1100 for the lift, 280 for shocks, drag link flip kit 300, (optional tie rod 300), c-gussets 350, wheel spacers 200, 37 inch tires 1500..... sooo $3730 to 4030
Thanks, was trying to hop around where he said anything about regear or chromoly Axles, but I guess not. Not saying you need those but some people’s opinions of how much insurance you should have and how hard you want to wheel it is different than others.
a c I suppose you could worry about R&P but there’s not much you can do besides regear if you stay with Dana 44 size. 3.23 or 5.38 are still dana 44 R&P’s. Don’t think regearing affects being prone to failure.
I heard three things that are actually relevant to running 37's and that was the C-Gussets, HD tie rod, and tire carrier. No mention of 1350 driveshafts or at least 1310's, no axle sleeving, no chromoly axles, no big brake kit, no trussing. Mistitled video.
No gearing change? when I put 35s on my Jeep and went to 456 gears change your gearing out to one of the best modifications you can do you'll get your gas mileage back and your acceleration and you'll put less wear and tear on your drivetrain
Been subbed to this channel for a while now, and I'm still really diggin' your Jeep. I'm a crazy person, I welded C gussets on the axle of my stock Jeep as soon as I got it, lol. So I love that you actually built your Jeep to be solid and tough, instead of focusing on useless flashy bits.
Wheels, tires, lift, re-gearing, 8k to do it right with my plans. Which is also why my Jeep is stock for now because I can’t see myself investing that kind of money in a vehicle with so many known issues. They are a blast, but they aren’t great enough to dump money into for me. Great video and wish all Jeep owners the best.
I spent 5K on suspension alone 3K on lights 2.5K in armor that includes front and rear bumpers 3K in brakes 1K Warner winche 2.1K on wheels and tires And soon 3k on SC kit. 1K in Earthquake Sound System All labor free by me. And i had other accessories that i had leftover like CB/ham radio, marine seat covers, waterproof everything, top rack built by a buddy, rifle racks, tool bags ect.
You should do five tire rotations with a Jeep. Your spare has full life and the others are at 75%. Makes them last a little longer too. Thats what I do.
I applaud you for actually using your Jeep. I hate how every soccer mom has a lifted jku on 35s and never take it offroad. Nice, to see a jk owner abuse their Jeep a little because that's what they are made for.
people always say thats what they made for but yet have to put thousands more into mods to do it lol ...i think it was made for driving but it capable of doing more
The best thing about a Jeep is doing exactly what you want to do with them.......never mind what others think as long as it’s what you want an you are satisfied with it.... if you ask 10 different people on how to build a Jeep they will give you 10 different answers..... beautiful build buddy!!!.... love what you have done.... happy trail man!!🤙🤙🤙

It’s a thing these new jeepers do. Buy a bunch of dumb bolt on shit and install shocks upside down without upgrading axles then break on the “trail”. Today’s equivalent of a ricer basically.
Mike Hancho 185$ is a lot to gain nothing. I also have a 99 tj heavily modified. While most mods cost much more than 185 I gained something with the exception of the plastic grill inserts. Those are totally ricer. Guilty still cheap
If it helps, here’s what it cost me on my 2013 JK, doing pretty much the bare minimum, buying some used parts, throwing spare in the back, and excluding wear items like brakes (all amounts include labor): Regear to 4.88, sleeve and gusset front axle: 1900 Front ball joints: 300 Used 2.5” MC coils + Fox shocks: 1100 Front RK trackbar: 220 Cooper STT Pros 37s: 1100 Used AEV Pinter wheels: 400 Total: $5,020
Some questions, if I may. 1) What primitive/unimproved roads did you attempt unsuccessfully in the Rubicon when it was stock but that you have been able to traverse with the 37s and other mods you mentioned? 2) What modifications have you done to compensate for changes in driveline angles caused by the lift? How much sooner will your U-joints need to be replaced if you haven’t compensated (or don’t compensate) for those driveline angle changes? 3) Did you check what the fuel mileage of the stock Rubicon was with YOU driving it? Did you replace the speedometer gear to compensate for the change in tire size? If so, how much did the tires themselves plus the difference in ride height change your fuel mileage? Thanks for the info about underbody armor. Good looking tires, BTW.
Roger Metzger was able to do moderate trails in CO such as slaughterhouse gulch and Illinois gulch/mini Moab. With this set up I can do a lot harder trails in moab (going back this week), Saran Wrap, eagle rock, chinamans gulch in co were done with ease. Thanks. I'm 73. IF I ever have enough money to buy another 4WD rig, it will probably be big enough to tow my wife's horse but I can at least hope that our son might someday get something even more capable than his current ride--a '97 Grand Cherokee. I like to discuss off-pavement capability with him and other aficionados.
Since we're talking about trying to save some money! Pep boys sells the same tires (discoverer stt pro) and just keep an eye open for the deal "buy 3 tires get 4th free" should save you about $300
$7400 is way more than double what I have in my YJ that incudes the transmission I just bought & the purchase price! But my Jeep is a 95 not as nice as yours
Brett Stevens same for me. Unfortunately I don't have my jeep anymore, but I ran 37's on a two door JK on stock gears for almost 10 years. I never had any problems wheeling it, or on the road. The last year before I sold it I had done 5:38's, and didn't have any problems with those either.
Holy smokes... I just realized how similar our jeeps look. I have almost an identical setup except I have Poison Spyder stinger, Rigid Industries pods, and KC rockers, instead of EVO and Black Oak. My old TJ Rubi had STT Pros (which I prefer over my new JKU which has the KM2s)
Thanks for the video man! Not sure if someone mentioned it or not but Please be careful with that exhaust coming out under the jeep. Exhaust can seep into the cab if your sitting still. No sleeping with the engine running. Take care.
What did it cost? Answer: MORE GAS. Only thing I would recommend (not that you need me too) is maybe get a mid or long arm kit for the rear and move that axle back a few inches and then get rid of those stock drive shafts (get 1310 or 1350) and re-gear to 4:88 or 5:13). Unless I missed you mentioning you already did? Anyway. Nice jeep. I love my 2012 JKU Rubicon too. Keep it up.
I clicked on this vid to find out what it will cost me to run 37's on my jeep. But this guy seems to really enjoy the sound of his own voice, and goes on to describe EVERYTHING else, from window tint, led lights, to paint. Thanks for wasting my time, moving on.
It's so he can show off squinting his eyes in the sunlight if only there was a device if properly worn could keep sun out of one's eyes it could fit around the head with like a portion of it that extends over the brow maybe call it a hat, but sometimes people would wear it backwards and defeat the purpose entirely.
For 37's u need swap front axel . rock jock44 min need rims that fit . at very least chromoly shafts in the rear better if d60 or rock jock 60 . your top has 0 to do with 37's. Nice u went 1 ton steer . if u want big tires u can't be cheap .
Would love to do my own lift, but after watching some videos of people installing lift kits I think it's safer for me to have someone else do it. Wish i knew someone near me who knows how to teach me.
Your exhaust is illegal, you have it terminated before the rear of the passenger compartment, no way to get it inspected, your exhaust must exit the passenger compartment to the rear
so youre still running 37s with the Dana 30 and it's okay with just the gussets and stock gears. what's your opinion and review of running 37s? plan on getting a truss kit?
Good video. Great rig. It's always good to know what people has on their rig, but I'm just curious about one thing... Why would you go all the way up to 37x13.5 tires but keep the stock rims. I usually see those on 9", but seen them on 10" inch rims as well, the stock rim is like 7" wide. Was it a temp/budgetary decision, or are you sticking with those for the long haul? Jeep on, Brother. PS I Love free mods too. I've trimmed my own fenders and front bumper (to make it a stubby). Maybe some day I get off my ass and make a video about those.
I thought the same thing when he said he was on stock wheels. I run 37x1350x18s on an 18x10 wheel (Ram 2500). The 37x1350s usually spec a 9" wide wheel as minimum.
everyone talks about how they build their jeeps and cars and how much they spent but no one says how theyre making the money, im a young guy about to turn 20 and want my future to be building cars, whats your job dude
I run a JKS 3.5 with 37's and i sometimes wish i had a 4 or 4.5... Though i like my low center of gravity, the higher lift would allow for better clearance
Great Jeep good job. Do u think it’s worth the money you pay for the car plus the high prices we pay for almost every single piece of after market on it? I’m glad to see your actually putting it to use so for you I tip my hat. Otherwise it would be a really really expensive toy. I’d rather have a Porsche. What are your thoughts.
You should look to see if you can center that rear axle in the wheel well, find a good mechanic for some recommendations. I just had some MetalCloak DB3 Rear Control Arm correction brackets installed, may not work with your setup.
Mods necessary to run 37s and the first one is soft top mod 🤣😂🤦♂️. Realistically you only need the lift kit, the shocks, the air craft aluminum bar, fender delete, the welded pieces and preferably a decent rim with negative camber to avoid spacers. Oh and big @$$ tires of course. But ideally you'll also need a wheel speed sensor to match your new tires. And new axels to match your ideal engine rotation from manufacturer with that of your wheels. Don't wanna blow your engine. Not a bad build thou. The under carriage armor is a nice touch. Everything else is personal preference thou, not needed for 37s
3.73's 2.5 super lift, Ironman M/T 35/12.50r17E's JK 2door 2018 5 spd automatic with the 3.6 16mpg on avg on the road, I Hunt and fish and only rock crawl to get to where I wanna go
Ready to put my wife's Wrangler into the ground. POS had the death wobble from the day after the warranty expires. Spent 5grand on a whole new suspension, 4sets of tires and only 104k miles
Hey but just an off topic question but what do you do for a living? Just curious on what type of well paid job you have for all these toys and trips you take haha. But great video though.
I hate my 37's on my wrangler. Im over it... Trust me you'll get tired of them lol. Im going to 35" at the end of the month and thats as big as ill ever go again!
@@kevinjohnson7418 to aggressive for me great offroad but I don't do hard-core offroading waisting money anything over 35" which I have now. They looked good though lol
Hi, are the C gussets that you have all that is necessary to run 37's? I know you even wheel yours and it appears nothing has broken...that's great! I thought to run 37's that a bunch of other stuff had to be done such as the front axle truss and sleeves and gearing and even a bigger steering box upgrade. Am I wrong? I'd like to go 37 on my 2 door JK Rubicon and if I just did the C gussets like you without having to spend $ on all the other stuff that would be great. I also wheel mine like you do. Please chime in and explain a bit more on what is needed to run 37. You've obviously done it and it seems to be working. Thank much! Denny/Denver CO
Zdenek Stuchlik it's definitely the minimum. You always run the risk of things breaking but these Jeep's are pretty strong. I would rather put sleeve and gusset money towards new axles.
I have a tj so I'm no expert on jk but I do know you prob hear about non Rubicon jks going 37s having problems. That being said your Rubicon comes with better axles (d44 front and rear) a pose to the d30, better gearing both axles and tcase. I think you could run 37s fairly confident but of course cgussets, trusses and shafts will make it much more reliable. Non Rubicon I wouldn't go 37s without swapping the d30. Best of luck
No need to watch the video, everyone. C gussets, fender trim, pinch weld trim, wheel spacers or less BS wheels and 3" lift are what you need. Lots of misinformation or unrelated crap. Cost varies depending on what you buy but plan on $5k with the tires to do it "right". Also, the CB antenna is in a bad location. The signal is gonna try to pass through that tire and the top which just won't do if you wanna communicate more than 100 feet. It would be better if it was 4 feet or on the corners. I need to get corner armor as to move my antenna.
Fine is relative. What does a SWR tell you? Mine is where yours is, 4 feet. My readings are decent but they aren't. Something to consider if you want to get more range.
And watching the video again your pinch welds aren't trimmed enough to run 37s without concern. It is clearly seen in profile shots that they are intact on the rear. Best route is to cut, horizontally, slits 1 inch apart about 1 to 2 inches deep (towards the tub). Hammer them inward. Paint. Fill gaps with JB weld, foam, whatever. It is a nearly free mod that will save your tread if you stuff the fender wells enough.
Hey man quick question. I’m about to trade in my 2001 Jeep Wrangler on 33’s, I never re-geared because it felt fine. But the Jeep im trading it in for is a 2009 rubicon that’s sitting on 35’s, would you recommend re-gearing or wait a while?
David Van Voris is this the Dynomax Evolution Exhaust you have . 4 wheel parts it's saying it wouldn't fit the JKU online . WTH lol ? Please confirm if you were so kind. The JK uses a sensor instead of a gear for the speedometer. You mod the computer with a flash tool.
Since we're talking about trying to save some money! Pep boys sells the same tires (discoverer stt pro) and just keep an eye open for the deal "buy 3 tires get 4th free" should save you about $300
Stock gearing with 37” tires that’s your next mod I am sure
Two Jeeps?! What I am just dreaming for one!
Krysten ellis Stick to it! You'll have one!
Built up rubicon alone costs more then my entire house! I'm so jealous what people can spend on these hobbies
Invest in a tailpipe. Exhaust running up under a vehicle is prone to cause rust issues.
i expected gearing and axle talk when referring to tire size req
Mine is on 37s ....get the correct back space wheels and flat fenders you can run 37s on a 2.5-3.5 lift
$7400 is way more than double what I have in my YJ that incudes the transmission I just bought & the purchase price!
But my Jeep is a 95 not as nice as yours

why start out with the softtop? its quite clear that the title is the cost of running a 37, cut to the chase
0 to 60 in 25 seconds
Johnny Blaze ZX14R scary fast
Johnny Yeah. 0 to 60 in 25 seconds, up the side of a mountain.
Funny how most peeps don’t replace the hood latches that was the first thing I did. The hopping drove me nuts
So you didn’t have to change your pinion kit when going 37 ppl keep telling me to change my pinions
Great looking Jeep, i really like those stock rims on big tires
Gibbet Hoskins thank you!
can u make a video and talk but only film the jeep don't want to see your face
He did show his face a lot huh? I guess he's pretty happy with himself!
It's so he can show off squinting his eyes in the sunlight if only there was a device if properly worn could keep sun out of one's eyes it could fit around the head with like a portion of it that extends over the brow maybe call it a hat, but sometimes people would wear it backwards and defeat the purpose entirely.
@@johnbrockjr9464 Ha ha ha! Good one!!! I like your humor and creativity!! That's MY KIND of sarcasm!!
I've been investing on my 97 jeep wrangler 500 so far
And fixing everything I can myself
I would recommend trimming that pinch seam soon.
I run those same front inner fenders - love them. Nice setup yo.
Solid vid man! Just what I was looking for.
Shawn Lindsey damn this is old haha thanks miss the Jeep
Which is louder at highway speed, the factory soft top, or the fast back soft top?
"I didn't include little mods, stickers etc." 😂 nice jeep tho man
For 37's u need swap front axel . rock jock44 min need rims that fit . at very least chromoly shafts in the rear better if d60 or rock jock 60 . your top has 0 to do with 37's. Nice u went 1 ton steer . if u want big tires u can't be cheap .
This may be a stupid question. But do you need to get the car tuned to run that exhaust?
bruce witt you do not
Did you have to change the gears in order to run 37's?
Yes
Would love to do my own lift, but after watching some videos of people installing lift kits I think it's safer for me to have someone else do it. Wish i knew someone near me who knows how to teach me.
What is your stock gearing? And fuel consumption? Nice looking jeep
Your exhaust is illegal, you have it terminated before the rear of the passenger compartment, no way to get it inspected, your exhaust must exit the passenger compartment to the rear
bill rose jr cool
Thank God no angry eyes grill....!!!!
Mitch Scott lmao
did you not get warranty ? holy crap man, stock gears on 37s?
chrisdcurby rubicon stock 4.10 gears
I have 35s on my rubicon and run 4.56 gears to keep it nice and low. Works great
chrisdcurby its not as bad as yu think it would be.
so youre still running 37s with the Dana 30 and it's okay with just the gussets and stock gears. what's your opinion and review of running 37s? plan on getting a truss kit?
Daniel Le these are Dana 44s
Good video.
SO NO REGEAR MOD FOR YOUR 37S??
Could you see the EVO enforcer 3” performing just fine with the 37’s... or is the 4” a must?
I run a JKS 3.5 with 37's and i sometimes wish i had a 4 or 4.5... Though i like my low center of gravity, the higher lift would allow for better clearance
3" is good just need to trim or get flat fenders. As long as the bump stops are correct size you'll be good.
I have flat flares and 37s and 4,5” is quite a lot of lift.
cool, thanks
I'm currently running 20" rims on 35"s on my Sahara.. I want to run 37"s after they wear down, thanks for this video.
Spacely anytime!
Minus a few things such as changing hardtop for soft top costing $700 and that bill could be a lot smaller
I dont Play agreed
You should look to see if you can center that rear axle in the wheel well, find a good mechanic for some recommendations. I just had some MetalCloak DB3 Rear Control Arm correction brackets installed, may not work with your setup.
John Gagnon yeah just need to do adjustable arms in the back for sure
And trim that body piece in front of your rear tires before it punches a hole or worse in one of your tires.
Why would anyone advise against selling off the hardtop? Inquiring minds want to know.
Take a shot every time he says "aahhm"
J. Ward lol
Great video and very informative. One question though, did you re-gear for the 37" ? is it recommended?
TalesOfTwoWheels I never did but if you can I would do it.
3.73's 2.5 super lift, Ironman M/T 35/12.50r17E's JK 2door 2018 5 spd automatic with the 3.6 16mpg on avg on the road, I Hunt and fish and only rock crawl to get to where I wanna go
One question. Has Jeep cured the Death Wobble.
no
Hey I'm looking to buy an 03 jeep wrangler sport and want someone with sum KNOWLEDGE about jeeps to tell me if it's a fair buy.
I keep hearing MFs always saying if your gonna run 37 you gonna want to change your front and rear axles to Dana 44?
Jay Dot they are, this is a Rubicon although the front is not a “true” Dana 44
I remember when I had my 37, thats a good tire size
OFF ROAD N Chill definitely is but I need axles and 40s lol
Ready to put my wife's Wrangler into the ground. POS had the death wobble from the day after the warranty expires. Spent 5grand on a whole new suspension, 4sets of tires and only 104k miles
How have you not broken the stock axles yet?
If those tires were super swampers you would be telling us about your new axles : )
Watched this video a few times...have two questions: did you need exhaust spacers, and with the 4”EVO lift have you had any drive shaft issues?
Joe Robinson never needed a spacer. I ripped the driveshaft boot but other then that no problems
Joe Robinson I would still recommend a longer driveshaft
Now double all those numbers to account for installation cost.
I have a question
With the 4 inch lift and 37s did you make any changes to the drivetrain or the gear ratios and what's your gear ratio?
Franky2369 it’s all stock. 4:10 Rubicon gears
AWESOME JEEP RUBICON TACTICAL JEEP FOREVER MY SON LOVE 🚙👮🇺🇸
Hey but just an off topic question but what do you do for a living? Just curious on what type of well paid job you have for all these toys and trips you take haha. But great video though.
Victor Costello will be making one soon
Did you regear for the 37” tires?!?
I hate my 37's on my wrangler. Im over it... Trust me you'll get tired of them lol. Im going to 35" at the end of the month and thats as big as ill ever go again!
Why ?
@@kevinjohnson7418 to aggressive for me great offroad but I don't do hard-core offroading waisting money anything over 35" which I have now. They looked good though lol
What happened to that blonde girl that was in your videos?
Chad B lol there's a stab
th-cam.com/video/w7y19ED6Vrk/w-d-xo.html
TLO gaming you guys need to act it out so I can put it on a video
Dylan Watson look up the size of the d30 vs the dana44 on the rubicon. It's not a true Dana 44
Jackal_v01 mine works just fine but thanks!
Jackal_v01 also pinch weld is already trimmed on 2013 plus Wrangler
Jackal_v01 I've stuffed the tires plenty of times and it's never cut it. You can go look at some of my photos.
Hey man quick question. I’m about to trade in my 2001 Jeep Wrangler on 33’s, I never re-geared because it felt fine. But the Jeep im trading it in for is a 2009 rubicon that’s sitting on 35’s, would you recommend re-gearing or wait a while?
Victor Hernandez you will be good. Only downfall of the 09 is the 3.8l
I had a 2012 2dr Rubicon on 35's and it was terrible. The 3.8 really needs the gearing in my opinion.
Cooper SST are damn good tires. Had them on my 4 runner...........70k miles.
I see this video is old but thank you for putting everything in the description.. love the Jeep
Sammy Fermin hope it helps! Thanks Sammy.
David Van Voris is this the Dynomax Evolution Exhaust you have . 4 wheel parts it's saying it wouldn't fit the JKU online . WTH lol ? Please confirm if you were so kind. when are you headed back to moab? nice ride, I have a TJ and I'm buying a JK soon
you ever towed anything with it?
Last 90 seconds of the video went "pretty well"
What do you get for your MPG ? City/Highway
Angelo Olmos 12 street 14-15 highway
David Van Voris that’s not bad at all with those 37’s plus the lift
You need to do a 5 tire rotation. It is a waste of a tire.
Did you cut the FENDERS yourself ! little narrow though!!
abbas hassani yes I did
