Looks like you had a great day out - and thank goodness for those Schwalbe tyres on the off-road sections. I'm a complete convert to the electric Brompton. I bought one for my wife, who suffers with knee problems, last Christmas and its has been transformational for her. She can now join me on rides and hops on it to go to the shops or meet friends, without a second thought, when in the past she would probably have driven. She's also planning to use it for commuting into central London when she returns to the office full-time. Best of all, she sometimes lets me borrow it!
Thank you for taking the time to share your experience with the Brompton, I love hearing about transformations like your wife's. Bikes and ebikes are such game chargers. Once she commutes in London she will never want to get back on a train!
@@OneLessCar Please advise on "not really Brompton ridable" observation. Do you think it's possible to outfit a e-Brompton to be light trail riding worthy? If so, what would modifications would be necessary?
Lovely blog Michelle ,I was in Cornwall this June on my bike doing lejog and yes I remember them brutal little hills 😀and the cracking weather, what an absolute pleasure to watch thank you.
Bicycles, ebikes and escooters are great options for last mile, short distance travel. Cities need to do more to encourage people to ride bicycles by providing safe, protected bike lanes and trails. Every adult and child should own a bicycle and ride it regularly. Bicycles are healthy exercise and fossil fuels free transportation. Electric bicycles are bringing many older adults back to cycling. Ride to work, ride to school or ride for fun.
As I live and breathe! The lovely and Michelle has emerged from hiding once more to share her exciting and picturesque travels with us. Thanks for sharing. Hope your wish comes true!
Great outing & use of the Brompton Electric. I love mine and find that because it fits in the back of our car, I am exploring more new areas farther than possible on day rides. Like you I find that I can make careful use of energy levels and gears for a full day of fun. The small battery bag carries enough for warm day riding in combination with a water bottle mounted on handlebar stem. Here is the western US we have had more and higher heatwaves and expect that will increase. Likewise fires and smoke. Fewer cars and more bikes helps! The crowds looked a bit thick in town for my COVID comfort level making those backroads and hills even more appealing.
I remember cycling around that area! My next cycling might be halifax NS. I saw your other video with all the parking in the cycle lanes. Hope things improved since then. Greetings from netherlands
I used to live in Madron and have a non-electric old-school mountain bike. One of my favourite ever rides was up and past Lanyon Quoit, Morvah, Pendeen and St Just; No-Go-By Hill going into St Just is really fierce, and even in my lowest granny-gear my lungs were still inside-out when I got to the top, but it's a real sense of achievement when you've done it; then on to Lands End for a cup of tea and something to eat, and back along the South coast through Lamorna, Mousehole, Newlyn and Penzance. There is another fierce hill when you leave Treen which has a hairpin bend halfway up which doesn't help! 🚴
I should add that I am not a sporty cyclist. - I did race a bit in my teens but never really took to it - so these days I ride for fitness, pleasure, leisure, shopping, and commuting; proper utilitarian stuff. My bike is my main mode of transport. There are some really good things to see if you are not in a hurry, and are prepared to go slightly off-route, like Lanyon Quoit itself (pronounced "koyt") Pendeen Lighthouse, and the Minack Theatre, or anything else which takes your fancy, but the main thing is to enjoy it.
Thank you, that's why I make these videos, to encourage more people to get out on their bikes. Sunnies are Tofosi a great buy as they're good quality and not crazy expensive. I lose and break sunglasses too regularly to get expensive ones. 😎
I take my Brompton electric on rough grounds too, it can take a beating! It's got me back to cycling. Living in Switzerland means it's not always very flat. I have a 370 m difference in altitude going back up home after work ! couldn't do it without the electric assist, I even had to train to be able to do it when I first got back on the bike.
When I lived as a teenager in Cornwall in the 1960s there was no/zero cycling culture ( one went for months without seeing a bike) ,it's nice to see things have improved.
Not surprised, the terrain is not kind to the legs. If you are a beginner there would be very few places to ride to get fit without running into mega hills. It's not my favourite terrain to ride, I like a good hill but in Cornwall it's constant up down updown updown, and you can't even go fast down because the lanes are too narrow/sketcy. On an e-bike however it's a blast!
Would love to, I've been a few times, but to be honest the weather in Ireland doesn't make it my top choice. I struggle when it's cold and wet on the bike. It's the same for Scotland would love to go but the weather is such a risk.
@@OneLessCar It's actually been way better up here this year than its been down south. D&G sticks out into the gulf stream so it tends to be quite mild.
We went to Somerset Devon and Cornwall just last week with our motorhome and tandem bike ,unfortunately first ride broke a rear spoke and cycle shops were to busy to help us out . still managed to get cycle hire for the Tarka trail in Barnstable but the Camel trail cycle hire at Wadebridge were fully booked gutted as we also wanted to cycle the Penzance area but on the upside managed to do a lot of walking. Going to carry a few spare spokes next time.
That's so frustrating! When I cycled across Canada I carried spokes but I'm not sure I'd have known how to replace them 😂 The Camel trail is on my list at the end of the summer on a converted Brompton, it will be my first time
With just one broken spoke I would have just kept going. I've actually ridden with three, but by then the wheel was pretty odd looking and I was glad to have it fixed. But one is surely no big deal.
@@apaul9776 with just one spoke Broken we could have just ridden but our tandem is electric with two 500watt batteries coupled with our panniers and bar bags plus two riders with a wheel which has 32 spokes minus the Broken one didn’t want to chance it although I’m sure we would have been ok .
There is a well not far from us, in Scotland they call them clootie wells. They date back to the Iron age, maybe even the bronze age, nice to think that people have been trying little bits of cloth in the trees around them for 3000 years.
I live in Cornwall, wadebridge, I’ll look out for the wishing well. My bike is my Brompton, non electric, the hills are too much , the council workers are taking forever on that footpath , I’d like to save up for one of those electric Brompton , put my boardman racing bike on gumtree and will put that towards it , the road out of st Ives to zennor is all uphill , liked and subbed thank you.
Welcome! It is one lonnnng climb out of St Ives... last time I did it on a rented road bike, I have no idea what the gearing was but remembered every time I rounded a bend there was still more, it didn't bother me this time around so much 😀 but it did eat up some battery in turbo mode.
Tried the brompton e assist but steering was twitchy due to where the battery is mounted, settled on Tern vectron much more pleasant to ride with a much better Bosch motor
I have a standard Brompton, it's just standard Brompton handling. I think if you go from a normal Brompton to Electric it's probably less of an adjustment. Tern make great bikes too, it just depends on what your priorites are as to which bike is right for each person.
The Brompton's key benefit is the compactness of its fold. If you don't need that, then other folding bikes offer interesting options. Whenever I ride my Brompton after riding my other bikes for a few weeks, it feels very twitchy. A few days of the Brompton and this sensation (nearly) disappears. The Brompton ride then becomes the norm.
Hello thank you for all your videos it did help me make my decision on purchasing my brompton electric. I had a quick question the stem catcher is a little loose but the clearance to tight it is very small. Do you know of a tool that can I get to tight it? Or do I need to detach the block when the battery goes? I really trying to avoid doing that since I don’t want to damage any component.
Did you have problems of the electrical system cutting out when you were on the bumpy path? My system is very sensitive and I'd expect to have a lot of problems on paths like that.
@@OneLessCar I read through the comments thinking someone else might have commented, but didn't see this topic raised. Thanks for sharing your experience - think I'm going to go to my dealer and have the motor checked as mine would have cut out loads on the tracks you rode.
