    A tip for adding stability - put a bottle of wine in the ‘uphill’ back pocket of the City bag! (Valeria’s shopping bags really are a must if you intend doing grocery shopping regularly, as well as a trailer of course. I also have a rack in my Electric .)

    like your video! Using brompton for many years now. What I like to add is that I was kind of shocked how much plastic you had with the small amount of groceries. I am in Germany and I am happy that I can buy in my supermarket fresh veggies and fruits loose without plastic! There is also tree times a week a market with lots of local food. I bring my bags with me and do not need to use new plastic bags. Yes, here you can buy as well everything in plastic, but more and more people decide to avoid plastic. And as a result the economy eventually is adapting. Best from a brompton fan 😷😊

    I attempted my first “as is” supermarket trip with my new eBrompton. I am in Australia, and I know that my EasyWheel extender has made it into the country, just not to me yet….. I have already put 74mm roller blade wheels on, for fun, and have orders of EasyWheels coming. The roller blade wheels help, but I really need the extra stability of the wheel extender. My rack is coming from Canada. Maybe. My Valerias shopping bag (pink flowers) should be here by next Monday too. I spent an hour in traffic the other day, just driving 500m to do some jobs. Would have taken 10m tops on the bike.

    Great quick documentation of simple errands in complex times. I have the small bag on my Brompton Electric and carry folding bags for use on handlebars for small short errands. Normal daily errand use now. I have the new Travoy for bigger planned pickups and deliveries. I recently managed an unexpected curbside 24" flat monitor in high winds with careful one-hand riding and the electric assist Brompton made that easier. The Travoy would have been a much better solution.
    Wondering if you might apply your engineering experience to possible Brompton Electric modifications like a handlebar control or other clever tricks in the future? I'm thinking a Raspberry Pi computer could be a great addition to a Brompton Electric but haven't had time to go looking for sample projects yet.
    Maybe a little more video editing for future posts... Thanks.

    • @oliverpolden
      @oliverpolden 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      I don’t personally think there’s a need for handlebar control. You can just keep it in high power and I find the whole system responds very well to what you’re doing with the peddles. The only time I change the power is if the battery is getting low, but since the range is so big that’s rare.

    Interesting to see your video on the electric Brommie. One tip to help with the stability issue when folded, fit an easy wheel extender, I've just bought one via amazon, solves the problem, mine is now more stable than it was before I added mg swytch kit, I found the weight of the motor made it very unstable.

    The main compartment is of course restricted due to the battery but the two pockets on the back are way bigger than they look. So you do get about the capacity you expect but you’ll have a problem fitting in large items. It might have been nice to have some way to secure large items on top of the bag if they’re not too heavy and don’t encroach on the handlebars. But of course a backpack is always an option.

      Hey Denny, I'm glad you liked it! I'm still going to make more comparisons and tests on this bike, but wanted to take you along this very first time grocery shopping with it. Good job. I know how much time editing involves. You do good work! Are you going to advise us on how much road mileage you got out of the battery once you drain it down again? I’m curious to know if pedal assist is worth adding via SwytchBike kit. Right now I can get one for $429 if I order on the 28th. Installs easily and the battery is good for 50km depending on pedaling and power setting. A video on your settings and how much assist you actually use would be great!

    • @EverydayCycling
      @EverydayCycling  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hi Don, I'll do that very soon, under different assistance levels, etc. I can advance to you that I'm getting about 30 km under maximum assistance the entire time. Also, I'm about 100kg heavy (or 220lbs), so I'm honestly pretty satisfied with this "real-world" range I'm getting out of it. I expected something around 20-25 km. I've never used the Swytch kit so I can't comment on that. Maybe one day!

    • @oliverpolden
      @oliverpolden 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      I’ve tried an aftermarket kit and have to say the genuine electric is way better. Better range, more refined, doesn’t affect your warranty, integrated lights, more natural response/power and you don’t have some Frankenstein of a bike. I feel it’s almost blasphemous to put an aftermarket on a Brompton.

    Nice one Victor. Have the same trouble with my Brompton as mine does not have the rack so generally just end up carrying it folded up. The HDD you mentioned is used mostly for storage. It got better, but the workflow is still pretty slow for editing, as I need to create lower resolution proxy files to edit, then export higher resolution, etc. I'm tempted to get an M1 Macbook once the new ones come out later this year, we'll see.

    I'm no TH-camr myself, but I've listened to a lot of them describe the business of making a living off of TH-cam. My takeaway is that you should absolutely lean into the "Brompton" titles if it gets you more views that way. The algorithm does what it does, and it sounds like a TH-camr's job is to feed it exactly what it wants.

    • @EverydayCycling
      @EverydayCycling  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    Well I guess I got the vid coming up on recommended as I am a subscriber :-)
    Couple of things...
    The issues you noted in shopping-cart mode are precisely why I have not used my M6L like that beyond a first try. Also, I rarely use “kick-stand” mode for when I am out/having a break from a ride. Usually, the ground is not even/flat enough for it to work, and/or a small breeze can unsettle the bike.
    Also, would you prefer the Brompton electric to have a digital readout of battery status rather than simple/basic lights? It occurs to me that it would be more informative and a more reliable gauge of where one is in the charge status - less guesswork. Having said that, I would assume that the last 25% would not last as well as the first 25%, as batteries are not particularly linear in discharge, so maybe a digital readout would not help that much. Your own thoughts as a day to day user/owner?

    • @EverydayCycling
      @EverydayCycling  3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Hey Adrian! I guess the experiment really doesn't apply to the great people who are subscribed to the channel with notifications turned on (thanks, btw)! For these special people I'm just asking for patience as I figure out my ways on this platform.
      I agree with your assessment of the stability of the L model. I'm also not satisfied with it, though I absolutely love the looks. I'll make a few upgrades on this bike that will make it exactly how I want it.
      As for the battery level, I have to say I like the 5-bar meter. They really take a long time to drop, even though I'm 100kg (220lbs) heavy and always ride on level 3. If it was a percentage it would make me really anxious. My computer drops a percent every minute and that makes me anxious. haha
      The brompton battery has 6 levels: 5 bars, 4 , 3, 2, 1, and 1 bar blinking. This last one is super important, as it indicates 10% battery left, in which case I'd turn off the assistance and use the battery solely for the lights until I get home.
      So, to answer your question, I like the way the battery level is shown, but I see why a lot of people would prefer the percentage and it's a reasonable preference.

    • @adrianlw2750
      @adrianlw2750 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@EverydayCycling - thanks for your thoughts :-) Very helpful in fact. And I guess once over the first few rides and becoming familiar with how the battery levels work, they work well. I cannot imagine that Brompton went through all the development stages without trying both and finally arriving at what they did. For most people I suspect the lights are best. Your approach to the blinking final light scenario sounds to be good!

    Yay! You did it by Friday morning! The video was on the top of my recommendations, but I’m a subscriber (and pretty much always watch your videos right away). @DavidRyan. 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      The grocery stores don't let you take it inside even if its folded? I live in NYC also and I'm thinking about getting a Brompton to commute. Is it worth it? A big reason why I'm considering it is because of its portability such as folding it up and carrying it/rolling it inside stores, buses, trains etc.

    • @carolyamate
      @carolyamate 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@DavidRyan. Hi David! Yeah, HMart in particular doesn’t let me take it inside, even folded (they actually have a sign saying “no bikes, etc”). The security guard sometimes is nice and let me leave the bike in their (now) unused eating area in the back. Some other places are way too small to even consider. I haven’t tried Whole Foods or Trader Joe’s yet. Maybe Whole Foods won’t be a problem, because it’s bigger.

      @EverydayCycling  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Ahhh that's so unfortunate. Do you usually ask if you can come in? I guess NYC is quite different in terms of space and security (a guard may not appreciate you taking the bike with your own bags into the store). Here in Atlanta the grocery stores are spacious and the 5-ish times I've been stopped by a guard was out of their curiosity to learn more about the bike.

    • @carolyamate
      @carolyamate 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@EverydayCycling yeah, I think it's a very new York specific thing. I do try to ask and be polite about it -- I think foldable bikes are still a novelty, and when people hear the word "bike" they assume bulky, dirty, etc.
      However, I don't want to discourage anyone from buying a Brompton, because I'm honestly super happy with mine. We have two bikes in our small nyc apt :), it's awesome.

      @@EverydayCycling That's *it*! Why *black* ? So you can wipe your hands after you change your tire? ;-) I also would recommend those big floppy brims you can attacht to your helmet... better than a hood... they have the advantage of helping keep the rain out of your face.

    Wiping down you post wow that is extreme I did not know people actually done that. So if that's the case I wonder if he wipes down his shopping when he gets it home also ?
    I would suspect the vast majority of people dont do this, I know I am getting off the subject which is about the brompton cycle. But this guy emphasize the point of him wiping down his post when he could have just edited that part out.

      I showed me wiping the packages in the video otherwise my mom would complain saying I'm giving a bad example (that happens). hahah that being said, I do wipe my post if I'm bringing it into my place, and I also wash all the groceries, which is the reason why I put them into the sink at the end of the video. That's mostly due to COVID, I rarely did it before.

    Your experiment was nicely done. What I learned? 1. You can get a decently-sized bag with your Brompton e-bike.(They started out, prohibitively small), 2. Amazon returns are ridiculously easy. Thanks for posting.

    I truly hope yopu will remain a vbloger who remains true to providing content intead of using "fillers" .
    5min of how to insert an allen screw in a threaded hole is something getting popular to get bait clicks but really just makes serious people walkaway.

    Thanks for another great video! I am glad you got a new battery in your laptop! Ah, that always make a computer feel ‘new’ again (somewhat!) Do you teach engineering? Or are you a Graduate or Post-Doctoral fellow? I am a professor at a University in South Africa and use my Brompton on campus all the time (I have an ‘older’ - 21 year old! Brompton M3L that lives in my office. I also travel with that Brompton when I go to conferences or do research around the world. In fact I have taken it to Brazil a few times! But also to the US, UK, all over Europe, Asia, Africa etc.) I have a newer (10 year old M6L at home) You can see more about my Bromptons and adventures with them on my youtube channel or on capetownbrompton.tumblr.com Thanks for the excellent videos!

      You don't need to apologize, man. Taking the time to watch an 8-minute video until the end and then dropping a negative comment with no constructive feedback just proves you must be going through some hard stuff. Thanks anyway, hope the rest of your week goes better.

      @@EverydayCycling Well look at it this way. Bloke puts battery in laptop, takes old one back to amazon, goes grocery shopping & then goes home. Do you not think it smacks of those typical face book posts done by big lipped tarts with big boobs & sfa to say for teeny boppers to get all excited about. _ You said I did not make a constructive comment so I have made one & i am not doing that to be really nasty , just to point out the pointlessness of it all. I am sure that you can make some great vids if you tried, But this is not one of them. That is all. Do you want me to sit & say "Yeah great man"! just to make you feel good, or give an honest opinion. I believe you can delete comments that you do not like, so by all means delete this if you wish. but head the note . And say all you like in retaliation If you are unhappy & feel i am being unfair - well so beit, As i said before - sorry.( But I am not one of those that posted a dislike)
