One of my favourite moments in this movie is Harry and Snape looking at each other after them discovering Barry Crouch Jr has been using polyjuice potion 😂 Harry’s like “see..not me…” hahaha
One more thing: when the fake Moody took Harry away from Diggory's body, Dumbledore knew that this is not the real Moody. He said later: the real Moody would have never removed you from my presence. When he did I knew immediately and I followed.
@@hmp01 I think the movie where he looks the best is the 3rd. The hair is shorter but also a bit messy which not only looks better but it's also more accurate to the books' description. It should be a little longer,I guess, but as I said,I personally liked it very much. This year was the absolute worst for the hairstyles with the important exceptions of Cedric,Cho&Draco. And also Neville.
@@Nicamon I was OBSESSED, and I *mean* OBSESSED, with Harry's hair in the third movie. I always wanted to style it that way, but I never did because schools in Turkey had strict rules about student hair :/ And in college, I thought it would seem juvenile to do it, but I was so wrong, lol. I should have fully gone with my passion instead.
As the story goes, all the principle actors were under contract to not cut their hair between movies. This gave the hairdressers something to work with. The director liked the long hair and didn't have it cut. From what I heard, he was the only one happy with it.
Actually, regarding Harry seeing Cedric and his parents, I think was due to the fact that they were the last people Voldemort used his wand / spells on. So his wand "echoed" the last spells he used. That's actually explained in the book somewhere.
Actually it's the last people killed by his wand not by him does yeah they all say that Voldemort killed Cedric he did not wormtail did but it was on voldemort's orders and with voldemort's wand there is a difference
According to AI: The spell is “Priori Incantatem" is a Latin phrase that means "previous incantation". It's also known as the "reverse spell effect" . The spell is a rare manifestation of the charm "Prior Incantato", which forces a wand to show an "echo" of the last spell it performed. "Priori Incantatem" occurs when two wands with the same core, taken from the same animal, attempt to duel each other. The winner's wand forces the loser's wand to produce "echoes" of the most recent spells performed in reverse order.
Technically, Harry DID go back with his Aunt and Uncle, but he stayed overnight at the Wesleys because they had to get up early to go to the Quiddich World Cup. The movie decided to skip his time at the Dursleys. I wasn't mad at it.
Sometimes I forget what they cut out. I'm glad I have my fellow HP fans to remind me. I WAS upset about those things when I saw it in theaters. Also, the non explanation of priori incantatem.
I thought Harry was there earlier than that? No, I looked it up. There is a bunch of stuff that happens in a day at the Weasley's! Ton-tongue toffee, the kids banging card tables at each other, dinner on the backyard lawn, lots of things.
The great funny scene with the Weasleys meeting the Dursleys was just one of numerous great scenes left out. We mustn't forget Dobby. I'm still upset they left him out of this film. And oh yeah, the Quidditch World Cup match. I so was looking forward to seeing it on screen. Goblet of Fire was my first Harry Potter book and the Quidditch World Cup match blew my mind as I read it. It was discribed in such great detail that I could see it in my mind. It was what got me hooked and made me a full blown Potterhead. LOL! 📚🏰🪄❤️🔥
I loved the scene in the book when Mrs. Weasley sent a letter to the Dursleys by muggle post covered in postage and in the letter hoped she had enough postage on it! It gets better in the confrontation between Mr. Dursley and Harry!
By the way that bug was not a magical creature I know a lot of people think it is I even did when I first saw it because I don't recall if they said what the hell it was in the books it might have been called a spider I don't know it's been awhile since I reread the books but in the movie the things that the fake Moody expands with engorgio and then does the spells on that was a careless whip scorpion it's an arachnid and they're harmless you can keep them as pets
@@rogueryder3285 when I first saw the movie that that was some magical creature that we just never discussed but when I found out it was a real creature I have to tell people that in the comments now
In fact, you were almost right in your comment about Sirius being tracked due to Hedwig: in the book, Sirius warns Harry that he shouldn't use Hedwig and use a different owl every time, because white owls were very rare where he was hiding (and Hedwig even got offended because of it). Also, in the book, Beauxbatons and Durmstrang delegations include both male and female students (at least two male French ones are mentioned)
Also it fills me with rage that the films don't explain ANYTHING about Lily's protection. ESPECIALLY in the first movie where it's just brushed off as love. That enrages me. It's LITERALLY the MOST important part of the story. Cedric's death and his father's reaction breaks my heart. You can genuinely FEEL his pain. They cast the PERFECT actors as Cedric and his father.
One of the favorite inside jokes among us Harry Potter book readers; 'Did you put your name into the Goblet of Fire, Harry?' Dumbledore asked calmly.' It's considered funny because book Dumbledore always kept his cool no matter how difficult and bad the situation is. He is always leveled headed. 📚🧙♂️🪄🧘♂️😉
in the next book/movie, as i was reading the scene in the book, dumbledore was almost scarily calm while facing voldemort and this was one of the most chilling moments meanwhile showing why he is the GOAT
Fun facts/answers to some of your questions: Harry is still living at the Dursleys and the book starts with the Weasleys picking him up to attend the World Cup. Fans of the books have long made fun of Dumbledore's "DID YA PUT YAH NAME IN DA GOLBET OF FIYAH?" because it is clearly stated "Dumbledoe asked CALMLY". Just one example of how film Dumbledore is different from book Dumbledore AND how Michael Gambon's Dumbledore is different from Richard Harris' Dumbledore. Both great, just different. The thing with Ron is that he has always had this inferiority complex. He grew up in the shadow of his siblings (mainly his brothers) and, being Harry Potter's best friend, ends up in his shadow. In the first film, he sees himself in the Mirror of Erised as head boy and Quidditch captain covered in glory. He is envious of the chance to compete for riches and glory, and the idea that Harry may not have put his name in the Goblet of Fire doesn't even cross his mind because he is so blinded by envy. That's why he's such an ass to Harry in the first part of the film. During the trial when Igor is exposing Barty’s son, he mentions that he was involved in the torture of the Longbottoms, who are Neville’s parents (which explains why he is so upset when "Moody" demonstrates the Cruciatus curse in class - because it was used on his parents). Also, during the trial, Dumbledore says that Snape WAS a Death Eater at one point but is not anymore (after he became a spy for him). Victor Krum is under the Imperius Curse (one of the three unforgivable curses) in the maze. The victim basically has no control over their actions and is obedient to whomever casted the spell (in this case Barty Crouch Jr). They are placed in a trance-like state, hence why his eyes are like that. Voldemort’s appearance is a physical manifestation of how evil his soul has become. Plus, as the heir of Slytherin, where the symbol is a snake, he has snakelike nasal slits. Ralph Fiennes (pronounced Rafe Fine+s) plays such a good villain, between this and Schindler's List (though he's definitely more terrifying in that but that's also because he was portraying an actual person who tortured and killed people). Voldemort identifies four Death Eaters by name: MacNair, Crabbe, Goyle, and Lucius. Lucius is of course Draco's father, Crabbe and Goyle are the fathers of Draco's friends and the last one, MacNair, is identified in the book as the guy who is supposed to execute Buckbeak in Prisoner of Azkaban. Remember in the first film when Ollivander says to Harry that the core of his wand was made from a feather of the same phoenix as Voldemort's (more specifically Dumbledore's phoenix aka Fawkes)? The Priori Incantatem, or Reverse Spell, effect occurs when such 'brother wands' connect in a duel. The winner's wand (Harry's) forces the loser's wand (Voldemort's) to produce "echoes" of their most recent spells performed in reverse order. So when Harry sees Cedric, the muggle from the beginning and his parents, that is the reverse order in which they were killed by Voldemort's wand. As always there are some things in the book that are not in the film. Most of it is not THAT important but one thing I love that is missing is a subplot involving Hermione forming S.P.E.W. (Society for the Promotion of Elfish Welfare), a group/organisation to liberate Hogwarts' enslaved house-elves. Winky the house-elf who serves the Crouch family is an important character in the book, as is Dobby (he gives Harry the Gillyweed instead of Neville). Cedric appears for a few seconds during Quidditch in Prisoner of Azkaban but it's a different actor (stuntman Joe Livermore). In the book he catches the golden snitch after Harry faints and offers to replay the match, but is declined by Oliver Wood. At least one full-scale dragon was constructed on the set, which could even blow real fire. It was created partially from the basilisk puppet seen in Chamber of Secrets. Only Harry's battle against his dragon is shown in the film but the way the other contestants stole the golden eggs from their dragons is revealed in the book. The underwater scenes were shot in a huge purpose-built tank (one of the largest underwater sets ever constructed) with a bluescreen background. Safety divers swam in-between takes with scuba regulators, to allow the actors to breathe without having to surface. Daniel Radcliffe was underwater for about 40 hours and at one point, he actually almost drowned. Also, as with the petrified figures in Chamber of Secrets, full-sized models were used for the those scenes which required the actors to keep completely still. A bit of a problematic fact about the scene where Harry is in the bath and Moaning Myrtle is all over him, is at the time of shooting, Daniel Radcliffe was only 15 while Shirley Henderson (Moaning Myrtle) was 40. While Dan was obviously not naked in the scene, switch the genders and it would be an outrage. The tongue tick with Barty Crouch Jr. was not in the book and was improvised by David Tennant. Brendan Gleeson (Moody) then added the quirk to a few of his scenes as a hint to his real identity. In one of the first takes of Hermione's "Cinderella moment" Emma Watson actually tripped and fell down the stairs. The bandmembers at the ball include Honny Greenwood (lead guitar) and Phil Selway (drums) of Radiohead. Hermione's "Everything is going to change now isn't it?" simply means because Voldemort has truly and fully returned. Lastly, Cedric's dad's cries are absolutely heartbreaking. The actor, Jeff Rawle, gave one of the best performances in the entire series!
Yep "victor krum" was under the Imperius Curse but his eyes should of stayed normal because you supposed not know he's under control - that's what the movie got wrong !!!!
@@kIdeoCash_TMG they wanted to show that something is wrong with him. Not the best choice, since it contradicts the story of people being controlled without other people knowing.
There is also the Information missing how Crouch Jr escaped Askaban. His mother was ill, switched places with him and died there. His father kept him in the house with the imperius curse. During the Quidditch World Cup, he was able to escape.
@@lenakohl2339Probably would have been better to show him getting hit from a mysterious spell coming from just off screen and then showing his eyes change briefly before turning back to normal and him showing no emotion. But I guess that’s a pretty minor detail in the scheme of things. Movies only have so much time to work with.
The reason Voldemort can now touch Harry is because he used Harry's blood in the resurrection spell. That's why he said "It must be the boy!" back at the beginning.
@@ejtappan1802 supercarlinbrothers has a theory where Ron's in Hufflepuff and they haven't finished what happens at the end of the series so I don't know how much that difference is going to change things but Ron ends up being the one who the blood came from
This was left out of the movie, but in the book Hermione discovers Rita Skeeter's secret. She's an unregistered Animagus who's been using her shape-changing ability to spy on other witches and wizards and exposing them in The Daily Prophet newspaper. Hermione catches Rita in her beetle form outside the Hospital Wing window at Hogwarts and traps her in a jar with an Unbreakable Charm. Hermione keeps Rita in the jar until the end of the school term, when the Hogwarts Express returns to London. She then forces Rita to promise to "keep her quill to herself for a full year". Also, in the book, it's revealed that Fudge has a dementor perform "the kiss" on Barty Crouch Jr before they can learn what he knows about Voldemort's plans, and Dumbledore telling Fudge that if he as Minister is unwilling to accept the reality of Voldemort's return, then they have reached "a parting of the ways." Fudge begins to perceive Dumbledore as a rival and threat to his position as Minister, and sets out to undermine the credibility of both Dumbledore and Harry as a means to keep his job.
@Onthebrink5 I would advise you to stay away from children's fantasy media if you're going to apply real world, mature logic to it. And especially don't come to reaction videos of media you so clearly dislike just to be a spoil sport in the comments. No one is forcing you to be here and read comments. You're free to spend your time reading hard hitting literature instead!
@Onthebrink5 I agree with the immorality of Hermione for having sequestered Rita Skeeter for so long (even if it were for one day), though I really don't like this woman. Personal justice can lead to very big drama, even injustice. Imagine doing the same to Snape because he was "bewitching" Harry's broom in the first movie. Then, months later, you learn that it wasn't Snape but Quirrell. Whoops, too late, you deprived him of months of life. That's why trials exist. But, dude, you wrote it with so much condescension... That was really unnecessary.
The how he escaped azkaban it’s actually really clever, they just don’t explain it in the movie. Basically Barthy Cruoch jr’s mom was destroyed as his son ended up in azkaban and she fell into depressionn, begging her hunsband to free their child. So what happened is that Barthy Crouch and his wife went to azkabaan to visit their son, but as they did that they had polyjuice potion. As they got into the cell, Barthy’s mom morphed into him and remained in jail at his place, while he was exting, morphed as her. Dementors are the guards of Azkaban but they’re blind, they cannot see. They just feel the state of souls. They felt a healty soul and one near to death enter, one healthy and one near to death exit. Later on Barthy’s mom died in azkaban and they buried her. Meaning that Barthy Crouch jr is officially dead, and nobody, except Barthy Crouch, knew he was still alive. Azkaban could never know they missed a prisoner
Something the movies didn't even try to capture is that Dumbledore is terrifying, there's a reason Voldemort is scared of him. Dumbledore is the cheeky, calm, witty grandpa on the day to day but when things get serious he is cold fury, also described as so clearly powerful that when he is angered the air around him feels like it's statically charged, you can physically feel you're in a powerful presence.
*NO SPOILERS* Snape was a REAL Death Eater, along with Malfoy and others. In the memory in this movie, Dumbledore said: "Severus Snape was INDEED a Death Eater. However, he REJOINED our side before Lord Voldemort's downfall and turned spy for us, at great personal risk. He is NOW no more a Death Eater than I am." They never mention it, but Snape joined Voldemort at 18 or 19 and he turned spy at 20, risking his life at young age. Snape is actually much, much younger than Alan Rickman and here in this movie he is supposed to be 34 years old.
Barty Crouch Jr. escaped the Azkaban because his mother and father helped him. Even though Barty Crouch Sr didn't want to save him, Barty agreed because he loved his wife and his wife wanted to save her child. The woman was sick and about to die, they went to Azkaban and switched places. So she died and Jr. was free.
Right. It is an unnatural act to force brother wands to fight each other. That forced a spell that projected the victims of Voldemort’s wand. They were just projections and it is very taboo even in the wizarding world to try to bring the dead back.
To be fair Sirius is still considered the only person to have escaped Azkaban at this point, and it took him 13 years. He did it by starving himself then turning into a dog to squeeze through a hole he made, then swimming miles to the shore. Barty's escape is darker: her mother drank the transformation (polyjuice) potion to swap places with him, and'd eventually die in his place (since Dementors are blind (they only sense emotions), they never noticed. Barty Sr. who felt responsible for everything kept it a secret, so he killed him before he could decide to talk.
It wasn’t a hole he made, he just fit between the bars, unless my book is a different version than yours. Everything else is pretty much bang on though! 😊
Fun fact: The director wasn't happy with the scene at 16:22 of the 2 brothers fighting on the floor, so he decided to demonstrate with one of them how they should do it... The actor accidentally broke some of the director's ribs wrestling him lol
Priori Incantartum...the most recent/previous spell used with the wand. When Harry and Voldemort's wands connected in the fight the last spell(s) that Voldemort's wand conjured were revealed because he was repeating the same spell - Avada Kedavra (the killing curse) - which was also used on Cederic, Lily, and James.
OK I promise I won't do this on every video but here goes: xD Harry's and Voldemort's wands are "twins", sharing a core. (This is mentioned in the 1st film when Harry chooses his wand: the wand-maker points out how curious and fate-like this is.) This book explains that when twin wands clash, they force their last spells to come out in reverse. So because killing Harry's parents and Cedric were the last spells from Voldemort's wand, it allowed Cedric and Harry's parents ghosts to appear. This is the Deus Ex Machina that saves Harry. (You'll also see that Voldy stops using his old wand in future films, realizing this.)
I always took what Dumbledore told Harry, at the end, as him noticing how affected Harry was by seeing his parents, and Dumbledore wanting to bring him back down to Earth and make Harry understand there was no way for him to find a way to bring his parents back to life, so he shouldn't waste his time trying.
@@nickreacts6394 They left out a little bit, when Voldemort used the Imperius Curse on Harry but Harry managed to beat his control (thank you, fake Moody).
@@strawberrylotlizardit’s pretty accurate to the books, except that I think Voldemort tortured Harry for a bit longer :(( and Wormtail tied Harry with ropes to the grave and was crying and howling in pain because of his hand
For those who haven't experienced a British public school this film, directed by an old boy (former student of a public school), is one of the best at capturing the atmosphere, the relentless "stuck with each other"ness that can easily develop.
Just FYI, your comment was probably misunderstood by the reactors. This is because “public school” in American English means a “state school” (basically a school funded by tax dollars and run by the government). In American English, we call the British termed public schools “private schools” (because you have to pay to go usually and therefore the school is run by private funding). I know it’s super confusing, and the British terms confused me for a very long time. So it basically boils down to this: Public school = government funded and run school Private school = public school (British definition)
Regarding the comment about how easy it is to escape azkaban, a small lesson on the books. Dementors feed on every happy thought draining a wizard of their magic and leaving them husks filled with their guilt and negative thoughts, someone feeling that way has no hope or desire to leave, they can barely eat or move. Sirius was innocent, and armed with this was able to resist falling into full despair but still weak. When he given a visit by fudge at the prison, he saw on the front page the weasleys holiday to Egypt and also with Ron, the rat. Filled with purpose he was able to get out of the prison. Now crouch jr was 100% guilty and under the full control of the dementors so how did he escape...with help. His mother was dying and so her and the father concocted a plan, they brought her in to visit, a weakened dying human, then placed her in the cell for her to die and walked out with the son. From the dementors pov a dying human entered, a dying human left, so no escape. The body was buried and the escape never noticed.
I think it helps to just think of Vold and Harrys wands meeting as creating an "echo" of the previous spells cast. The 'spirits' are like AI creations of the wand. These aren't the literal souls of those who died. The souls move on and don't come back.
OK guys, answers and explanations time. 1. Priori Incantatem You might remember that Harry's and Voldemort's wand share the same core. They are "twins". When two such wands are forced to do battle, something very strange occurs: they refuse and instead connect and try to overpower each other. The effect is known as Priori Incantatem. The stronger one will force the other one to regurgitate shadowy figures of the last spells it had performed in reverse order: the last one first. That's why the ghost-like figures of Voldemort's last victims appeared. Priori incantatem can also be performed willingly. Let's say you find a wand and you want to see what spells it performed last, you can point your own wand at it and say "Priori incantatem". The interesting question is why did Harry's wand win and not Voldemort's? After all, when it comes to sheer magical powers Voldemort is incomparably stronger than Harry. You might remember me telling you at the first movie that character and intentions matter a lot in magic. At that point Harry was ready to die, he accepted that possibility. And that's something that Voldemort was never able to do, he fears death more than anything. So Harry's courage won, it made his wand so much more powerful. 2. The protection given to Harry by her mother's sacrifice. It lives in her mother's blood, that's why Dumbledore decided to place Harry as a baby in the house where his mother's blood - Petunia - lives. As long as Harry can call that house home, Voldemort cannot hurt him there. He only needs to return there once a year. 3. Barty Junior's escape. His backstory is very complex in the book, but essentially his father got him out. His mother was very sick, days away from dying and that was her last wish. They visited their son in Azkaban, where the boy was almost dead himself due to the effect of the Dementors. They entered his cell, and both the son and the mother drank Polyjuice potion taking on each other's appearance. Then the father and the son left. Dementors can't see, they just felt that a healthy person and a dying person came, and also a healthy and a dying left. His mother died shortly in that cell and the trick wasn't discovered.
Karkaroff, headmaster of Durmstrang, is a Death Eater, but in the middle of the story, after he talked to Snape, he fled. The Durmstrang students sailed the ship back, as they were the ones who sailed to Hogwarts to begin with.
the movie doesn’t really show ron’s position and the fact his anger is sort of justified by his insecurities - his older brothers are either popular or successful (bill was a head boy and charlie a quidditch captain, percy is a prefect and fred and george are popular with everyone) and ginny is the longed-for daughter, plus his best friend is harry potter (whom ron’s parents also love). he’s just an insecure 14 year old boy who felt betrayed by his best friend🤷♀️
They don't ever explain in the movies the barrier between Harry and Voldemort, but their wands have twin cores and recognize each other as enemies. Wandlore is weird 😂. But I would recommend reading the books eventually. It explains it way more.
38:30 Fun fact about Moaning Myrtle, she was played by 37-year-old Shirley Henderson and was the oldest actress to play a Hogwarts student in the films. She's not played by a kid because she would have grown between films and clearly ghosts don't age.
priori incantatem is a spell that "reads" the wand's latest magic. in other words, it creates a "ghost" of that magic, but backwards... the last spells from voldemort's wand were all murders: cedric, the old man who lived in voldemort's family house and, obviously, harry's parents. they all appeared that night, only as "ghosts" of the spell.
Fun fact: when you made a joke about Harry not having rehearsed for the dancing, you were right--in real life Daniel Radcliffe missed some of the dance rehearsals the other actors went to, but the director liked the way his awkward dancing fit the scene so they left it as it was.
A bit of context. The first HP book is around 300 pages (depending of the language) and this one is around 700 so they cut things like Harry with the Dursleys, quidditch, Dobby and other things. Next book is close to 1000 pages so they cut even more in the next one. The last book is around 800 and is the only one split into two movies.
Priori Incantatem, otherwise known as the "reverse spell effect", was an especially rare manifestation of this spell that occurred when two wands with the same core (that is, taken from the same animal) attempted to duel each other. The winner's wand forced the loser's wand to produce "echoes" of the most recent spells performed in reverse order. In Voldemort's case it was the last people he killed. Cedric, the old man, Harry's mom and Harry's dad.
After watching Good Omens I literally just watched the Harry Potter movies for the first time ever recently just to work up to this movie so I would understand what was going on just so I could watch David Tennant in this movie. He was only in this movie a couple of times but he certainly left an impression. Lol
The actress who played Moaning Myrtle, Shirley Henderson, was 40 years old at the time - but she has a knack of passing for a lot younger in roles. Also every American reacting to this film get excited at Robert Pattinson; whereas we British viewers could recite the number of (mostly) sitcom actors who appear in the film - Eric Sykes (Caretaker), Timothy Spall (Wormtail), David Tennant (Barty Crouch Jr), Roger Lloyd-Pack (Barty Crouch Snr), Frances de la Tour (Madame Maxime) and Jeff Rawle (Amos Diggory).
Do remember how neville reacted being seen the spider getting tortured by the cruciatus curse in the class... How he didnt like it, why he didnt like it, it would be explained... Also, let me explain, what happened at the end of the movie... When Harry's and voldemort's wands combined, a spell named priori incantatum happened, it is a spell that happens between two wands that share the same core and since harry and voldemorts wands both came from the feather of the same creature, thats why that spell happened... Now what was that spell, priori incanctatum is a spell that made the wand of voldemort to show his previous victims, the victims being, cedric since he was just killed, the muggle caretaker voldemort kills at the beginning of the movie, Harry's parents and they took a form and they protected harry by coming out and blinding voldemort's vision which gave harry the time to run away... As harry saw his parents, he thought maybe there is a way to bring back the dead, so when at the end of the movie Dumbledore comes to his dorm, harry tells how he saw his parents and dumbledore says, priori incantatum, he knew what was going through Harry's head and immediately said " No spell could bring back the dead harry, i trust you know that"... Hope my long explanation actually makes it easier than more difficult to understand... 😅
In regards to your conversation as to whether Dumbledore was calm in the book(s) or more frantic as this Dumbledore portrayed him, as someone else mentioned in the comments, he's typically quite calm in the books, as well, and it's a big thing in the fandom how the book literally says "Dumbledore asked calmly." in the moment where movie Dumbledore practically tackles Harry, asking whether he put his name in the Goblet of Fire XD
I loved you guys' chat about the actors portraying Dumbledore had different situations around them. The story demanded different things from them in different movies. First one had to give that "always on top of things" feeling. And the second one had to give "things are slipping out of my control" feeling starting with this movie specifically. Also, you guys are super cute and insightful! I love the channel. Keep up the good work!
You two do a great job reacting to movies! Have you ever seen "Arsenic and Old Lace"? 1944 version with Cary Grant? Oh man...if you haven't, you're in for a treat! One of the funniest movies ever made! LOL
Another enjoyable film and in my Top 3 favorite Harry Potter films behind _Prisoner of Askaban_ and _Deathly Hollows Part 2._ My favorite thing I love from this film besides the action, musical score, suspense and emotion is physical debut of the Big Bad himself: Voldemort (He who must not be named) played by Ralph Fiennes. Interestingly, Ralph Fiennes almost turned down the audition to play Voldemort because he never read any of the Harry Potter books nor was he a fan of the first two films directed by Chris Columbus. It was Ralph's sister who has has three sons, all of whom adore the Harry Potter books who convinced Ralph about the role that, director Mike Newell was asking Ralph to play Voldemort and the rest was history.
The book ver: “Harry did you put your name in the Goblet of Fire?” Dumbledore said calmly. The movie version: “HARRY DID YOU PUT YOUR NAME IN THE GOBLET OF FIRE?!” This never fails to make me laugh.
Even though I first became acquainted with David Tennant as the 10th Doctor from "Doctor Who", his titular role in the modern version of "Hamlet", Huyang, Dr. Fugitoid (TMNT 2012), and Scrooge McDuck (DuckTales 2017), to this day and when I first saw this movie I never realize that David Tennant was in "Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire" as Barty Crouch Jr., even when seeing him on screen I just gave him the nickname "Creepy Scottish Guy who sticks his tongue out" cause he was absolutely terrifying as that character.😝😖 Speaking of which, I also didn’t realize that was Robert Pattinson as Cedric Diggory when I first saw the film, cause I was more familiar with his later roles such as Edward Cullen in the _Twilight_ films, Bruce Wayne/Batman in _The Batman (2022)_ and the voice of the Grey Heron in the English dub for Miyazaki’s and Studio Ghibli’s latest film, _The Boy and the Heron_ than Cedric, so it took one or two films that Robert was in and then re-watching _Goblet of Fire_ till I realize they were the same actor. Even the same can be said for other actors that I first saw them in but didn’t knew their names and faces but only became acquainted with them in another film afterwards such as Robert Downey Jr. (knew him in Iron Man, but first saw him Shaggy Dog), Anna Kendrick (became familiar with her in Pitch Perfect, but was in Up in the Air, Twilight and Scott Pilgrim), Pedro Pascal (saw him in Kingsman: Golden Circle, but became familiar with him in The Mandalorian and Wonder Woman: 1984), Stephanie Hsu (saw her in Shang Chi but became familiar with her in Everything Everywhere All At Once), Mary Steenburgen (first knew her in The Proposal, but also realized she was in Elf) and of course the aforementioned David Tennant and Robert Pattinson.
Another fun fact: Dan Radcliffe was so busy filming other solo scenes (like the dragon chase sequence) that he really didn't have time to practice for the dance scene, but he was still "dear old Dan" giving it his best, as the director put it. Also, having grown up alongside these books and films, it's fascinating to rewatch them now as a teacher. Ralph Fiennes also knew they had the Voldemort look nailed when he walked down the hall of the makeup department and immediately made a small child cry.
As I understand it, it was just Michael Gambon’s interpretation of how he thought it should be done based off what he knew, since he never read the books
@@VJP8464I think it was Mike Newell to be honest but I could be wrong. Dumbledore was way more book accurate in prisoner of askaban then Mike Newell comes along and becomes angry and aggressive. Mike Newell can be found in many interviews moaning about how long the book is, and wanted to cut things he couldn’t be bothered doing, then trying to add things that weren’t in the book like burning down the forbidden forest… he seems like a really nice guy but don’t think he had a lot of respect for the source material.
The fake moody had the same ticks as barty, licking his tongue, that was the biggest clue. It seems like the dad recognized him when they met and he died before he could tell anyone. In the chamber of secrets, hermione made polyjuice which allowed them to take the appearance of crabbe and goyle, the effects didn't last long. Moody drank way too much from his flask, it couldn't just be alcohol.
👉 No. Harry is still living with the Dursleys. Harry is only visiting the Weasley so that he could go to the Quidditch World Cup. One of the great scenes in the book version of Goblet of Fire is when Arthur Weasley, Ron and the Twins go to the Dursleys house to pick Harry up. 😄👨🦲👨🏻🦰👨🏻🦰🧑🏻🦰🪄
Probably my favourite ever post film breakdown by a reactor here. You considered everything and spoke so well about it all, as well as giving each other new ideas and things to bounce off. Truly awesome!
I love that Nguyen (please correct me if spelling is wrong) loves Snape and I’m so excited to see her react to his journey throughout the series. Also Cedric’s father reacting to his death always makes me cry!! Along with other many moments to come. Also also found this explanation of the graveyard scene that best explains what happened during the duel.. As dictated by the subtle laws of wands, when a duel occurred between wizards with wand cores harvested from the same creature, simultaneous spell-casting by both parties triggered a rare, powerful effect called Priori Incantatem. Both wands became linked through a single, golden thread. Hundreds of smaller golden beams shot off from this central thread to form a cage around the duellers. The two wand holders were then forced to compete in a battle of wills by forcing golden beads of light to move along through the beam back towards their opponent. When one wand managed to overcome the other, it forced the losing wand to regurgitate "echoes" of the most recent spells it had cast, in reverse order. Also also also the book has the events of the quidditch World Cup and they completely changed the maze for the movie. In the book there are obstacles and riddles, my favorite being a mist that when Harry walked through made him feel like he was flipped upside down and walking upside down. That as well as lots of other things they cut make this my least favorite book to film adaptation. But the movie would’ve been like an hour longer easily if they added everything from the book into it. It is the second longest boook. Order is the longest book but they do a way better job of adapting that one.
Priori Incantatem, otherwise known as the "reverse spell effect", is an especially rare manifestation of this spell that occurs when two wands with the same core (that is, taken from the same animal) attempt to duel each other. The winner's wand forces the loser's wand to produce "echoes" of the most recent spells performed in reverse order. xD Sadly yeah there is a lot more in the books that makes is even better but I still love the movies! I cant wait to see you peeps react to the rest of the movies! Having fun rewatching them with you again! :D
Oh my gosh, Nick, SUCH a great point! I really wish we could have seen the original Dumbledore act in these films. Michael Gambon as the second Dumbledore has his great moments, but I will always wonder what Richard Harris would have done with the big moments as we see in this very intense film. How different he would have played it. 😔
Best explanation: Harry and Voldy share twin wands, they can harm themselves but not killed. Harry said "expelliarmus" a spell to disarm. While Voldy said "avada kedavra" so because Harry's spell is ironically innofensive, Voldy's wand lost and was force to performed "Prior incantantem", that basically is regurgitate "echoes" of the most recent spells it had cast, in reverse order. If one of these spells was the Killing Curse, then a ghost of the murdered person could emerge from the killer's wand. 😊
I love how quickly you switched from the joy of laughing to the intense realization that the spider-bug thing could be made to commit suicide against its will.
The real moodie, is very paranoic and really straight forward, he has captures the most death eaters, and that is why when Dumbledore suggest he is going to be new professor, some say that moodie is "mad" so in my opinion Barty Crouch Jr. select the right person to impersonate, is not far different from who he is, the biggest difference of course Moody is not blood thirsty.
Oh yeah...I started watching this vid then had to stop for some reason and now it's been a month and you've watched all the other movies so looks like I'll be binging these!!
The end of this movie, with the fight between Harry and Voldemort, is kinda hard to translate to screen, and kind of difficult to explain without potentially spoiling stuff in later movies, but here goes...essentially, during the fight Harry's wand "forced" Voldemort's wand to reveal the last spells that it cast (something referred to as Priori Incantatem). In the sound mix, you can hear some screams before the 'spirits' start showing up, which would be the Cruciatis curses used on Harry. Then the 'spirits' show up in a particular order: Cedric, then the old muggle groundskeeper, then Lily Potter, then James Potter...the reverse order that they were killed in. I use quotes around the word 'spirits' cause they're more reflections of the people than true ghosts or spirits, the wand hasn't captured any spirits or anything like that (it's not a Frostmourne situation, if you know your Warcraft lore). Technically there should also be a reflection of Wormtongue's new hand flopping around that would've appeared before Cedric, maybe there was and it was just out of camera view, or maybe they decided it wouldn't be understood by the audience and skipped it, I dunno. The movies do a fairly good job at adapting the books, but sadly as the books get longer and longer, the movies have to pick and choose what to adapt, and some of the stuff that gets left out probably shouldn't have been, as it results in things not being well explained or understood by folks who haven't read the books (or they should've followed the footsteps of Peter Jackson and released proper extended editions for the longer books).
The book explains that because Harry and Voldemort's wands share a core (feathers from the same phoenix), they don't work properly against each other. So their spells connected into a beam. Harry focused harder on his spell, which resulted in an effect called Priori Incantatem coming from Voldemort's wand. It shows an "echo" of the previous spells that came from the wand. That's why the older man who was killed in the beginning also shows up, in addition to Harry's parents and Cedric: those were the last spells Voldemort cast with his wand (killing curses against them). Unfortunately, the movie doesn't show the spells in backwards order like it should. It should've been Cedric coming out first, then the old man, then Harry's parents.
Priori Incantatem its a Magical phenomenon that happens when two wands happen to share the same core. In this case the wand of Voldemort's and Harry's share the core of the feather of hawks the fenix of Dumbledore so when "Priori Incantatem" happened in the cemetery both wands couldn't destroy each other so the wands reveals the spells conjured mostly the forbidden curses. with that said the last spells of Voldemort were only forbidden curses: "Avada kedavra" and "Crucio" and that's why the spirits of the old man, Cedric and the parents of Harry were there causes that same wand kill all of them. Having two wands with the same core that are basically brothers they cannot kill each other but only hurt each other.
Dumbledore was trying to tell Harry, I know you love your parents but please don't try to put your life at risk thinking they will show up for you at those moments 😂 I think he wanted Harry to understand it was a particular situation.
My sister has said that she hates this movie because she actually reads the books, and this movie, in particular, cut out soooooo much important stuff.
I love the the movies but I do agree that this movie cut out so much important information. I saw the movies first then I read the books. Seeing the movies again I realized that how much I was missing and how much more I enjoyed the movies afterwards.
Well, it’s not so much the stuff they cut out. It’s also the stuff they reworked around those cut outs that just kind of wrecked the mood that the books have. Like the other schools were not supposed to be divided by gender that was a really weird decision to make The books are 1000 times better for this one in particular.
@@pfcampos7041I think some of the aspects covered in the books wouldn’t translate that well to the films. I can see why they chose to go the route they did. Now, if they ever do a Harry Potter series, I think they can do a much better job covering SPEW & other aspects of book 4.
She needs to understand the movies are an adaptation of a much longer, more complex story than in the books. Think of it like the multiverse. It's a version of the world you know. Also, people need to get over themselves.
14:20 That's is a "Damon Diadema" (also tailless whip scorpion) and is a real creatue. A friend of mine had one and I used to think was just a weird crab.
1:13:04 you are correct, Karkaroff was a death eater, he was captured and turned over other death eaters, and was pardoned, and the became headmaster of durmstrang. Snape was also a death eater but as Dumbledore said, he turns sides and became a double agent.
You two are the cutest reactors, and so funny and fun together. Thanks for reacting to this films! I'm really enjoying your perspectives. 😄❤ And your imitation of Snape cracked me UP.
51:58 info: Priori incantatem is like a browser history.. When 2 wands connected like that.. Both wands vomit their last spells.. The Voldemort's wand's last spells were killing harry's parents and also killing an old man (He was there too).. Because of this Harry saw , Voldemort's last spells (his parents).. Everything has a logic.. Not just spiritual miracle moment..
Prior Incantato was a charm that forced a wand to show an "echo" of the last spell it had performed. Remember, Voldy hadn't had a physical body since the death of Harrys parents. That means that the curse used to kill them were among the last spells casted by his wand. That's why the shadow of them reappered before Harry, as the last spells reappered. Voldemorts last four spells were all killing curses. Think about that....
54:41 actually Azkaban is very secure, the book explains how he got out and who helped him. Also, the books go into depth of how Sirius got out as well. 55:25 The wants showed the spirits of the last people that lost their lives. The muggle caretaker, Cedric, and Harry Potter's parents were the last 4.
Watch till the end to see the Snape impression...
If you look closely in the movie both moodie and barty crush j did a thing with there tong so you could see that there were the same guy all along.
Amazing impression indeed :D Nick is probably as far from Snape's personality as one can get
That alone was worth the price of admission! 😆
this film solidified my love for fred and george
Cedric's father weeping over the loss of his boy will always just wreck me.
100% true, I grew up watching these in the Latin American Spanish dub and it’s just as chilling 😢
Me too.
Same 😢
Same... his grief felt so real

"Don't underestimate Neville." Truer words were never spoken.
they have no clue
He unfolds even better in the rest of the movies.
No spoilers
Sssshhhh! 🤭😂
In the books dobby is the one to help him
One of my favourite moments in this movie is Harry and Snape looking at each other after them discovering Barry Crouch Jr has been using polyjuice potion 😂 Harry’s like “see..not me…” hahaha
It's so so brief but so so good 😂
And Snape has that "I'm not apologizing." look lol
Snape don't care if Harry is innocent, He hates his guts no matter what he does and wants to make his life a misery.
in snapes defense, its always them
One more thing: when the fake Moody took Harry away from Diggory's body, Dumbledore knew that this is not the real Moody. He said later: the real Moody would have never removed you from my presence. When he did I knew immediately and I followed.
Yep. He would have let him stay and sit with what happened.
@@Lilcutiepie95that and he would have kept Harry close to arguably the most powerful wizard in the world.
Harry Potter and the year nobody got haircuts. lol
It suited Harry, his hair was too short in the following films
I know!!
I hated the long hair on all of them, but figured I was just old and out of touch.
Actually, regarding Harry seeing Cedric and his parents, I think was due to the fact that they were the last people Voldemort used his wand / spells on. So his wand "echoed" the last spells he used. That's actually explained in the book somewhere.
There is even a specific spell to do it. In the books it was used to prove that Voldemort's mark was indeed created from Harry's wand.
Actually it's the last people killed by his wand not by him does yeah they all say that Voldemort killed Cedric he did not wormtail did but it was on voldemort's orders and with voldemort's wand there is a difference
Yep. I hate that the movie fails to properly explain it.
@@laylavonmav2587 so the spell or charm is Prior Incantato and Priori Incantatem is not a spell, but an effect?
Technically, Harry DID go back with his Aunt and Uncle, but he stayed overnight at the Wesleys because they had to get up early to go to the Quiddich World Cup. The movie decided to skip his time at the Dursleys. I wasn't mad at it.
Except the excellent scene when the Weasleys come to pick Harry up
Sometimes I forget what they cut out.
You'll understand in the fifth movie why Neville hesitated and cringed in the classroom scene over the Torture Curse

I love that detail that Hedwig gets offended because Harry uses other owls 😂
Also it fills me with rage that the films don't explain ANYTHING about Lily's protection. ESPECIALLY in the first movie where it's just brushed off as love. That enrages me. It's LITERALLY the MOST important part of the story. Cedric's death and his father's reaction breaks my heart. You can genuinely FEEL his pain. They cast the PERFECT actors as Cedric and his father.
One of the favorite inside jokes among us Harry Potter book readers;
'Did you put your name into the Goblet of Fire, Harry?' Dumbledore asked calmly.'
It's considered funny because book Dumbledore always kept his cool no matter how difficult and bad the situation is. He is always leveled headed.
📚🧙♂️🪄🧘♂️😉
in the next book/movie, as i was reading the scene in the book, dumbledore was almost scarily calm while facing voldemort and this was one of the most chilling moments meanwhile showing why he is the GOAT
Fun facts/answers to some of your questions:
Harry is still living at the Dursleys and the book starts with the Weasleys picking him up to attend the World Cup.
Also point out the fact that igor karkaroff was showing snape the dark mark because they both were death eaters...
@Onthebrink5 Bite me, snowflake.
@Onthebrink5 Yeah, she found that a journalist is using illegal means to stalk children, Hermione's actions are pretty justified here.
@Onthebrink5 Yeah. Sure.
So she died and Jr. was free.
The dead people Harry saw are the most recent kills of Voldemort. Clue: The wands are twins of each other.
"so he killed him before he could decide to talk"
Who killed who?
@@fewwiggle Junior killed his father before he could talk.
I’d say it was more like Jr killed Sr before Sr could fully shake off the imperius curse that was on him.
Gotta respect that type of dedication
Priori Incantartum...the most recent/previous spell used with the wand. When Harry and Voldemort's wands connected in the fight the last spell(s) that Voldemort's wand conjured were revealed because he was repeating the same spell - Avada Kedavra (the killing curse) - which was also used on Cederic, Lily, and James.
Appropriate that the same movie that has David Tennant also has a tent that's bigger on the inside.
OK I promise I won't do this on every video but here goes: xD
Harry's and Voldemort's wands are "twins", sharing a core.

Almost like it’s Scotland! 😆
The scene where they summon Voldemort is absolutely terrifying
Yeah don't know how close it is to the books but they definitely killed it in the movie
What time I just started the vid 😅
Such a chilling official introduction to the Big Bad, amazing scene!

So it basically boils down to this:
Public school = government funded and run school
Private school = public school (British definition)
“Can you guys do anything right at this school?” 😂 25:34
The food is great 😂
When McGonagall chastises "Moody" you see how he reverts to being a student being chastised by a teacher.
Because he was only 19 years old when he went to Azkaban just like Sirius Black in the books, Barry Crouch jr was emotionally stunted.
@@ChelseaChfy-ex1poSirius wasn’t 19 though, he was in his early 20s. Not much of a difference mind you!
Cedric's dad absolutely destroys me any time i see it
I think it helps to just think of Vold and Harrys wands meeting as creating an "echo" of the previous spells cast.
In the "old days," when Voldemort was at his peak, the dark mark was often displayed above a place where a murder was committed.
Scrolled the comments for ages to see if anyone else had addressed this, thank you friend!
By the way, the Snape impression killed me 🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣
the movie doesn’t really show ron’s position and the fact his anger is sort of justified by his insecurities - his older brothers are either popular or successful (bill was a head boy and charlie a quidditch captain, percy is a prefect and fred and george are popular with everyone) and ginny is the longed-for daughter, plus his best friend is harry potter (whom ron’s parents also love). he’s just an insecure 14 year old boy who felt betrayed by his best friend🤷♀️
Which is hinted to in the first movie when he sees himself as successful and popular in the mirror
Jr. was "Moody" from the beginning of the school year. If you recall, he was drinking the polyjuice potion when he is introduced.
Clicked immediately!! Keep these HP reactions coming, you two actually make my week❤😂
Thank you!
"did you put your name in the goblet of fire"Dumbledore asked calmly
The German hardcover edition is even over 1000 pages. When I got it as a brithday gift back then people were joking it is the Bible.

After watching Good Omens I literally just watched the Harry Potter movies for the first time ever recently just to work up to this movie so I would understand what was going on just so I could watch David Tennant in this movie. He was only in this movie a couple of times but he certainly left an impression. Lol
After I started watching other stuff David Tennant was in, I rewatched this and I was so happy to see him in this
The actress who played Moaning Myrtle, Shirley Henderson, was 40 years old at the time - but she has a knack of passing for a lot younger in roles.
It’s cool how Harry used basically a loophole in order to use his broom.
Eek!!! So excited!!! Your Friends video on Friday and Harry Potter on Sunday are a weekend ritual now!
@6:35 I want one of those tents. It would be sweet for camping.
LOL
It IS a great movie but IMO Bringing Up Baby beats it. Roar! Or is it Meow?! 🐆 Treasures from the past.

Thank you so much! :)
Another enjoyable film and in my Top 3 favorite Harry Potter films behind _Prisoner of Askaban_ and _Deathly Hollows Part 2._
My favorite thing I love from this film besides the action, musical score, suspense and emotion is physical debut of the Big Bad himself: Voldemort (He who must not be named) played by Ralph Fiennes.
Big thank you to Ralph's sister, because he was perfect in this movie as the Dark Lord!
The book ver: “Harry did you put your name in the Goblet of Fire?” Dumbledore said calmly.
The movie version: “HARRY DID YOU PUT YOUR NAME IN THE GOBLET OF FIRE?!”
This never fails to make me laugh.
The actress playing Rita Skeeter is Miranda Richardson, and she IS awesome! Such a dynamic actor
"Harry, did you put your name in the Goblet of Fire?" asked Dumbledore calmly
HARRY POTTER!!!🤬

Even though I first became acquainted with David Tennant as the 10th Doctor from "Doctor Who", his titular role in the modern version of "Hamlet", Huyang, Dr. Fugitoid (TMNT 2012), and Scrooge McDuck (DuckTales 2017), to this day and when I first saw this movie I never realize that David Tennant was in "Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire" as Barty Crouch Jr., even when seeing him on screen I just gave him the nickname "Creepy Scottish Guy who sticks his tongue out" cause he was absolutely terrifying as that character.😝😖
Speaking of which, I also didn’t realize that was Robert Pattinson as Cedric Diggory when I first saw the film, cause I was more familiar with his later roles such as Edward Cullen in the _Twilight_ films, Bruce Wayne/Batman in _The Batman (2022)_ and the voice of the Grey Heron in the English dub for Miyazaki’s and Studio Ghibli’s latest film, _The Boy and the Heron_ than Cedric, so it took one or two films that Robert was in and then re-watching _Goblet of Fire_ till I realize they were the same actor.
There's a conversation between 3 characters that, after knowing what's to come, is suddenly a little deeper than I previously thought.
It has always weirded me out how cool Crouch Jr. was as a teacher 😵💫 like if he hadn’t been a crazy wizard-racist he would have been good at the job
He put on such a good act he was actually good at it.
"Harry, did you put your name in the Goblet of Fire." Dumbledore ask comly
Calmly*
*calmly 😁
Never understood why they made Dumbledore so aggressive in this movie.
My best guess is that it was their way of conveying the gravity of Harry's predicament & the current situation in general. ❤🧡💛💚💙💜
Everyone cheered when the twins tried to cheat the age line but gave Harry grief for being under age.
I just realized I wrote "licking his tongue", but to be fair his tongue was all over the place.

Probably my favourite ever post film breakdown by a reactor here. You considered everything and spoke so well about it all, as well as giving each other new ideas and things to bounce off. Truly awesome!
This is so great to read, thank you so much!
Barty Jr was given the dementors kiss off screen Dumbledore got mad
Best explanation: Harry and Voldy share twin wands, they can harm themselves but not killed.
Harry said "expelliarmus" a spell to disarm.
While Voldy said "avada kedavra" so because Harry's spell is ironically innofensive, Voldy's wand lost and was force to performed "Prior incantantem", that basically is regurgitate "echoes" of the most recent spells it had cast, in reverse order. If one of these spells was the Killing Curse, then a ghost of the murdered person could emerge from the killer's wand. 😊
Congrats on nearing 100k. You’ll be there in no time. I love your reviews.
I love how quickly you switched from the joy of laughing to the intense realization that the spider-bug thing could be made to commit suicide against its will.
The real moodie, is very paranoic and really straight forward, he has captures the most death eaters, and that is why when Dumbledore suggest he is going to be new professor, some say that moodie is "mad" so in my opinion Barty Crouch Jr. select the right person to impersonate, is not far different from who he is, the biggest difference of course Moody is not blood thirsty.
your girlfriend has such an infectious laugh! XD its like equal innocent and hysterical
Oh yeah...I started watching this vid then had to stop for some reason and now it's been a month and you've watched all the other movies so looks like I'll be binging these!!
Your Snape impression was honestly spot on lmaoooo
I wonder how long it would have taken to film an extended edition, given the restrictions around child actors.
This movie was my introduction to David Tennant
I've been so excited for this!! 😆 Between this, Cocoa couch, and Movie Munchies, I've been having a great weekend 😊
Before he was Edward Cullen in twilight he was Cedric Diggory In Harry Potter
My sister has said that she hates this movie because she actually reads the books, and this movie, in particular, cut out soooooo much important stuff.
I love the the movies but I do agree that this movie cut out so much important information. I saw the movies first then I read the books. Seeing the movies again I realized that how much I was missing and how much more I enjoyed the movies afterwards.
Well, it’s not so much the stuff they cut out. It’s also the stuff they reworked around those cut outs that just kind of wrecked the mood that the books have.
Like the other schools were not supposed to be divided by gender that was a really weird decision to make
The books are 1000 times better for this one in particular.
@@pfcampos7041I think some of the aspects covered in the books wouldn’t translate that well to the films. I can see why they chose to go the route they did. Now, if they ever do a Harry Potter series, I think they can do a much better job covering SPEW & other aspects of book 4.
If she hated this one I can't imagine what she thought of the Half Blood Prince one.
