The letter that Filch drops @12:53 is a course on learning magic because he is a squib (a person with no magical talent even though he comes from a wizard family - kind of the opposite of what Hermione is). Of course, he probably feels guilty about it since he is surrounded by nothing but witches and wizards. Also, Harry can hear the snake talk. Remember in the first film he talks to the snake in the zoo and it responds to him?

In the first movie, when Harry is talking to the snake, he was actually speaking parseltongue (sp), but since he didn't know it, we hear English. Just like when he hears the basilisk. Oh, it's Dobby, like Bobby.
@7:40 Sir Kenneth Branagh is not just an actor, but also a writer and director. He has adapted and directed numerous Shakespearean works, both onstage and onscreen. I first saw him in Shakespeare’s Henry V (1989).
I love how they progressively get darker but I feel like the fourth one really marks the biggest change in how dark they get. The first three still feel more for kids and the goblet of fire is such a huge marker of change in how the films feel. I love it haha
@@chelsea9483 A lot of people say the third one is the biggest change, where things start to really get darker, but I agree more with you. There is a definite shift in the third movie, but it is still pretty clearly geared more for kids. So the third movie is where the turn towards darker stories and concepts begins, but the fourth is where that turn is complete and you are actually on that darker road.
@@Justin.Franks I think the third one is where things get literally darker with the new director and film style, but four is darker in the more figurative sense. It's the first one I'd say is maybe a no-go for younger kids.
Remember Harry did speak to the snake in the zoo in the beginning of philosopher's stone, when Dudley fell over the railing. He was always a parseltongue. We just weren't told the significance of it until Chamber of secrets
Spiders fear the basilisk because it kills using eye contact, and since spiders have eight eyes, or more, all around their head, and cant close them, they're pretty vunerable
Which would explain the various tiny spiders fleeing immediately either when right by the petrified bodies or whenever the Basilisk was around. Literally when I was a Kid I initially mistook the spiders were the ones who caused the petrified bodies since they were around some of the petrified victims unbeknownst to me that the Spiders were literally fleeing from the Basilisk.
Also in one scene you see Hagrid carring a rooster, The baslick can be killed when a rooster crows. Hagrid even mentions it in the book that the roosters were getting killed. Jenny was killing the roosters because Riddle was possesing her.
The voice Harry heard was the basilisk speaking as it moved through the pipes. Harry says(after they find the note in Hermiones hand " The monster in the chamber is a basilisk, that's why I can hear it speak it's a snake"
In the books, when Harry speaks to snakes he does realize that it isn't english. When he ran to the snake during the duel, he said something along the lines of, "don't hurt him." He had no idea that no one else understood what he was saying. When going into the chamber he says, "open up" but it takes him a few tries because he says it in English first. It isn't shown much in the movie, but Harry had a really difficult year his second year bc almost everyone thought he was the heir of Slytherin and people would run the other way when they saw him.
There are three improvised scenes in this one. The first one was Draco saying: I didn't know you can read. Tom Felton simply forgot his original line and he came up with this one, and the director thought it was hilarious and kept it. The second was the dialogue between Lucius and Harry in Dumbledore's office. Jason Isaacs thought he should say something before leaving and he decided upon "Let us hope that Mr. Potter will always be around to save the day" To which Dan Radcliffe answered without skipping a beat: "Don't worry, I will be". Isaacs was beyond impressed. He thought to himself: this isn't a child, this is a 13 year old actor. Also, he decided to kick Dobby down the stairs, something that wasn't in the script. The team thought that he slipped, because Dobby was CGI so there was nothing there.
Also Jason Isaacs improvised casting the death curse on Harry in anger. Which is poor improvisation as that's not something the character would do, attempt to murder the most famous wizard at Hogwarts while Dumbledore was there.
@richcheckmaker9789 He was supposed to attempt to attack Harry but nobody gave him anymore information. He asked a camera guy who said he'd heard Avada Kadavra was a strong one. So Jaaon Isaacs said it, and nobody caught the significance. I blame the director for it making it to the final film.
27:05 One thing you've got to remember when watching these movies is how Harry was treated by adults when growing up and why he's so hesitant to trust them
Tom Felton was starting to spread his wings on his acting in here, there's two moments when he improvised his lines and was in character of Draco, 1st one "I didn't know you could read." 2nd one was when the kid Crabbe was clapping and standing up he wasn't supposed to be doing that, Felton pulled him down.
13:06 Hogwarts is located in the Scottish Highlands but there is a magic barrier surrounding it that makes it so if a muggle gets to close to hogwarts they will only see ruins of a castle and suddenly remember they have to do something and leave
6:58 when Malfoy’s dad hits him on the hand with the top of his cane. He didn’t realize the fangs were so sharp and you could see Draco’s eyes well with tears and Jason Isaacs (who plays Lucius) was apologizing to him and Tom Felton (who plays Draco) said keep going it works for the scene.
The letter that Harry handed to Filch (the creepy janitor guy with the cat at Hogwarts) and he didn’t want anyone to see was a correspondence course (kind of like online learning today but done through letters instead of the internet) teaching him how to do basic magic. Filch is what’s called a “squib” which is someone who was born to magical parents but cannot do magic themselves.
I was looking through the comments to see if someone had mentioned this. 😊 Squibs are the opposite of muggle-borns (like Hermione who both of her parents are muggles).
Molly perfected the British mother in her first scene 😂 casually giving her kids a verbal whacking whilst being lovely to the kids friend that's present 😂😂😂
@@iulia.bianca.b yeah it's universal, happens here in the US all the time. I used to get into trouble sometimes with a friend of mine when we were kids and his parents would scald him but then assure me that I was fine and that they didn't blame me lol.
13:15 Hogwarts is somewhere in Scotland and is protected by enchantments from Muggles’ eyes. Let’s say Muggle-repelling ones. And if a Muggle somehow would get too close they would only see an illusion of a ruin. I don’t remember now if it’s mentioned in the books or somewhere else but i’m pretty sure that’s established in the lore. So it’s possible to get there by other means then the train, especially if you’re a wizard. Also i’m glad that you are watching the extended version of this movie! Most of the deleted scenes are straight up taken from the book so it’s a nice touch to have them included.
In the book they specified in the books to appear to Muggles as a crumbling ruin surrounded by signs reading keep out structure unsafe, I thinkmits in the first book that they mention it. It is also unplottable so cannot appear on any muggle maps or documents.
@@simonorourke4465 My understanding is that there are also enchantments in effect around Hogwarts that cause muggles to suddenly have some pressing issue they need to go attend to, such as a need to hurry back to where they are staying/living to check on the iron left on or a phone call that they suddenly felt to be urgent.
@@RiseeRee Are you suggesting that particular enchantment was never used before or that it was specific to only one application? This is an old spell whose 'use' predates the Harry Potter series. JK Rowling did excellent research and/or understood the material intuitively. While it may not have been spoken of before GoF, it was certainly in use in earlier books and would be a simple enough spell to use even casually. It's 'window dressing' level stuff; no plot point hinges on it. It's like someone asking during the first film where Harry's parents got the gold they left him in the Potters' vault in Gringotts; not a spoiler to mention it.
Fun fact: There wasn’t even a year between the first movie and this one! All the kids just grew a lot in the 11 months between them. This is going to sound counterintuitive, but I absolutely love this movie (probably in my top two of the whole series) because it used to absolutely terrify me as a kid. The basilisks voice through the walls got me every time. Not to mention the spiders!
@nickreacts6394 They had to hurry with these movies so the kids wouldn't outgrow their characters tuo much. Love your channel, definitely one of my favourites ❤
Why doesn’t Harry tell an adult? If you remember the last time he went a trusted adult about a strange event that he was certain was going to happen (ie telling his head of house Professor McGonogall about Voldemort and the Sorcerer’s Stone) he was told that he was mistaken because was a kid and was meddling in things far beyond his childish knowhow and that she didn’t believe him.) This just solidified the years and years of emotional neglect and abuse he received from the Dursley’s and any adults he had tried to confide in before. Also the scene isn’t in the movie, but Harry did ask about living somewhere else and was told it wasn’t possible. So even though he like some of these adults, Hagrid, Dumbledore, McGonogall, he has been conditioned to not trust them. Add that the people he does trust, Ron and Hermione, are telling him not to tell anyone, and he is more apt to listen to them as they have never let him down or given him reason not to trust the. Hope that adds a little bit of context? I love your reviews they are very wholesome 😊
Thank you so much for this explanation! I hadn't considered Harry's poor experience and history with adult figures in his life (especially at home) but that makes so much sense
Yes, each subsequent Harry Potter movie gets more and more intense and intriguing! Once you start you can't stop. I really enjoy your genuine, heart warming, and funny reactions. Keep up the good work!
It’s very noticeable with the first two Harry Potter films directed by Chris Columbus being adventurous and light-hearted with serious moments and with Alfonso Cuarón directing _Prisoner of Askaban_ that film was a transition from the light-hearted adventure to the more darker and serious moments of the later films in _Harry Potter_
The lore/magic gets more complicated and confusing as the series goes on and there are some parts that just aren’t included in the movies because it’s basically impossible to include it all in a single movie. I would honestly love for you to read the books after watching the movies just to have a better understanding - especially since you’re watching movies before reading. 😉
@@nickreacts6394 yeah you find out why it was planted on the grounds in the next movie well not really in the movie it's sort of implied but it's directly said in the books this is why it's here
One may only travel by flu powder to other fireplaces, and those fireplaces must be connected to the "flu network." The network may also be used as a form of communication, similar to a telephone, but live.
@@Deathbird_Mitch Possibly. The books aren't really clear, but Molly Weasley does place a piece of buttered toast into a set of tongs and places in the mouth of Mr Diggory as he is delivering a message through the flu.
Why is Vernon Dursley so bent on preventing Harry from leaving when he so clearly despises him? He's torn between not wanting Harry in his home, and not wanting Harry to be happy.
Vernon’s #1 goal in life is to make Harry as miserable as possible. He might not want Harry in his house, but he’d rather him there and unhappy than Hogwarts and happy, trying to become a wizard.
Somehow Uncle Vernon equated making Harry miserable to squashing the magic out of him. And really once you find out about obscurial, you realize Vernom's theory isn't far off.
@@dimitrisionas9566 Perfect example is Riddle's mother, Merope. Living in that hovel with her horrible father and brother squashed most of the magic out of her.
I kind of love that you each had to face your fears of snakes and spiders respectively in this one! :) My favorite behind the scenes tidbit was that even though the dog playing Fang was supposed to act afraid of the animatronic spider because Fang is a "bloody coward" as Hagrid says, she was so protective of the kids that she kept messing up the takes trying to protect them from it :D
The bone regrowing potion Harry drank was actually invented by his father's family. It's part of the reason Harry is so rich and why his dad didn't work.

Please be forewarned. Richard Harris who played Professor Dumbledore in the first two Harry Potter movie past away in 2002 very shortly after finishing Chamber of Secrets. So in the next film which is Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban the new Dumbledore was played by Michael Gambon from then on. But it also just so happened that not too long ago Michael Gambon passed away as well just this past September, 2023. 🖤🕯🧙♂️🧙♂️🕯🖤
You just watched the extended version of Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets. What was never explained in any of the movie versions is that Harry, Ron and Hermione found out that Filtch the Hogwarts caretaker is a "Squib". A Squib is a person who was born from a wizarding family but is unable to do magic. They have no magic in them. It's the reverse of a muggleborn which is what Hermione is. She was born from muggle parents but she can do magic. She was born with magic in her. It's sad for Squib because they know about the wizarding world and are exposed to it on a daily bases. But can't be a wizard because they have no magical abilities. It's like they were born physically magically impaired. So that scene you saw where Harry picks up a letter for Filtch and Filtch looks embarrassed about it is because Filtch thought he was found out. Later when Filtch's cat got petrified and he accused Harry of doing it he said it was because Harry found out the he is a squib and Harry was bullying him. In truth Harry and Hermione never understood or knew what a squib was until Ron explained it to them after Filtch accused Harry of bullying him by hurting Mrs. Norris the cat. 🪄🚫😼
Harry didn't realise he was speaking snake. Remember in the first film with the snake at the zoo? We hear him speak English but it was probably parceltoung just hidden as English since we saw it from Harry's perspective
Draco Malfoy's line "I didn't know you could read" was not in the original script, but when they filmed the scene, Tom Felton forgot what he was supposed to say, so he improvised the line on the spot. Shirley Henderson, who played Moaning Myrtle, was 38 years old when the movie was made, making her the oldest actress to play a Hogwarts student. Lucius Malfoy wasn't supposed to have long hair, but when Jason Isaacs was cast, he suggested he have long hair to distinguish him from Draco. In order to keep the hair from falling in his face, Isaacs had to keep his head tilted back, which give him the appearance of being snobbish, like he was looking down on everybody. J.K. Rowling, who wrote the Harry Potter series, actually created a guide to teach the cast members how to speak Parseltongue. Ron Weasley's fear of spiders was not acting. Rupert Grint suffers from such severe arachnophobia in real life that to this day he's still unable to watch the scene in Aragog's hollow. Life size statues of the cast were used in the scenes where the characters were petrified. Rupert Grint said the slugs that Ron Weasley were fake slugs with different flavored slime and admitted they taste quite good. In order to get a sense of how nasty his character was supposed to be, Jason Isaacs (Lucius Malfoy) watched Tom Felton's performance as Draco Malfoy in "Harry Potter and the Sorcerer's Stone". By the time the fifth movie, "Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix" came out, Harry Melling (Harry's cousin, Dudley Dursley) lost so much weight that he had to wear a fat suit. Lucius Malfoy's line "Let us hope Harry Potter will always be around to save the day" and Harry Potter's line, "Don't worry, I will be" were both improvised by Jason Isaacs and Daniel Radcliffe. Director Chris Columbus wasn't sure what he thought about Jason Isaac's ideas about Lucius Malfoy's costume and hair, but when Daniel Radcliffe said he thought it "looked really cool", he decided to go along with it. When Lucius Malfoy slaps Draco's hand with his cane, Jason Isaacs didn't know the cane had small fangs on the top, so Tom Felton's pain was real. Jamie Waylett, who played Draco's friend Crabbe was allergic to the fake snow used in the Winter scene, so his red cheeks in that scene wasn't because of sinuses, it was an allergic reaction. Mr. Filch is the only resident at Hogwarts who is never seen doing any magic. That's because he is a squib, which means he is non-magical, but both his parents are magical. This explains his bitterness towards the students. It's out of envy. Harry and Hagrid pass a bookstore while making their way back to Diagon Alley. If you look real close, you'll see the hard cover versions of the Harry Potter novels in the window.
48:28 I think you misunderstood that scene. Harry was speaking plain words while looking at the snake. Without thinking about it he started speaking in Parsletongue. And since he, Harry understands Parsletongue, he didn't notice that he sounded any different. Only that the snake was listening to him. Like in the first movie, when he talked to the snake at the zoo, Harry was talking normal words, and the snake understood him. We understood him and the snake when he said, "Thanks."because we were seeing Harry's perspective. In this movie, they laid that scene out very well so that we heard what everyone else heard. They showed us that scene from the whole room's perspective. Hopefully that clears it up.
It bothers me more than it probably should that it's Hermione in the movie who understands the "mudblood" slur and explains it, especially not with the emotional reaction she has, as if she's been dealing with it all her life. Until she was eleven, she'd have no idea whatsoever about the wizarding world, and certainly wouldn't have had to put up with this. As an adult, she might have that response, but here? Nope. It makes no sense. That's why it was Ron who gave the info in the book, while Hermione just said, "Well, he said something, and I could tell it was foul, but I have no idea what it meant." (I guess it goes with the pattern they have of having Hermione know EVERYTHING, and be competent in everything, while removing almost everything Ron does.)
Given how learned and deeply invested in her knowledge about the wizarding world and its culture she is, it absolutely makes sense in the movies. They established her character in the movie very well to lead up to that reaction from her.
@@melindamercier6811 She would hardly have read that term in a book, which is where she got all her knowledge. Ron, growing up in the wizarding world, would be much more familiar with the cultural slang. The books definitely gave Ron more of the "street smarts" relating to the wizarding world, while Hermione had the book knowledge.
@@marshallpeters7174 Yeah in the book ron had his specific role as the street smart one. Also, he is definitely more competent in the books, and they make it very clear that his struggles the first couple years are largely to do with his hand me down wand.
The movies do the entire Weasley family dirty, quite frankly. They give Hermione nearly all of Ron’s hero moments, Ginny never really outgrows her timidness, Percy is practically non-existent, Charlie IS non-existent. At least the films get the twins mostly right.
@@melindamercier6811eh it doesn’t really. It isn’t the type of thing they’d write down in a textbook. It’s more something you’d get called by a pureblood suoremacist in the street
The sword of Gryffindor came out of the Sorting Hat because the hat originally belonged to Godric Gryffindor. When the Hogwarts founders were alive they sorted students themselves. They "put some brains" in the hat to sort the students after they were dead.
8:20 When Harry says Voldemort's name, actually it is dangerous because when he was alive, when you pronounced his name he showed up or his followers. That's what they use to communicate with him. So, people try not to say his name ever, even after his dissapearance.
I am terrified of spiders too! I wouldn't have been able to do what Ron did even though he was terrified. It's also explained in the book that Ron's fear of spiders comes from his brothers transfiguring his teddy bear into a spider while he was holding it when he was young. The actor who played Lucius Malfoy didn't want to initially play him - he actually tried out for the part of Gilderoy Lockhart but he relented and took the role because he felt like he could show people how Draco is the way he is because of his father. It's also amazing with how Harry grew up in that horrible family and still manages to be a courageous, loving individual. You're kind of right about the diary - Tom was able to control Ginny because she poured so much of herself into that diary, her fears and hopes and it allowed Tom's memory to gain a foothold into controlling her. He made her kill Hagrid's roosters because the crowing of a rooster will kill (i believe) a Basilisk and used the blood from that to write tom's threatening messages on the wall.
Even though Aragog told Ron and Harry the truth on Hagrid's innocence and on the Basilisk being the monster released from the Chamber of Secrets, I still won’t forgive and especially justify him and his Spider Children for literally attacking and attempting to eat Ron, Harry and Fang (Hagrid's Dog) moreso *ANYONE* that isn't Hagrid regardless if they are Friend or Foe, along with the fact Aragog coldly didn't allow Harry, Ron and Fang to leave.🕷️🕸️
I appreciate all the hard work you've been putting in with all of these reactions coming out so quickly. It's insane the amount of content you're putting out for us. Just don't get burnt out, my friend. We can be patient.
Each movie is darker than the last. You will note that the title cards also get darker each movie. This was the last "kiddie-like" ones. Ya'll are in for a ride hehe. So happy you're doing this series
I want to give a massive shoutout to Kenneth Branagh, the guy who played Gilderoy Lockhart! He played the bad guy in Tenet and is the director of the first Thor movie. He is such a great actor!
"Did you buy your way into this job?" Worse, Lockhart was literally the ONLY person who would take it. Word's been getting around that the Defense Against The Dark Arts Job is jinxed and after what happened to Quirrel in the last movie. . .well let's just say it hasn't exactly improved the position's reputation.
woahhh what the heck?! I've never seen this version of the movie-- there's all sorts of added scenes I've never seen before (though admittedly, at this point it's been a few years since the last time I rewatched the movies themselves entirely rather than reactors watching it) Pretty cool
I actually went on a job interview that was like Gilderoy Lockhart's class- it was a group interview (which made zero sense because I the qualifications and licensing for each position we were there for were different) that was started with everyone watching a short FILM about the boss's life...followed by a TEST with questions about the film! Questions like, "what was Doctor so-and-so's first job?" and "when did Doctor so-and-so move to this town?". It was actually graded by the office manager and the doctor who just sat there making sure everyone paid attention to this award-winning documentary. (I missed one question.)
Regarding how Floo Powder works: Theoretically, you could probably go anywhere, but it's all connected to specific fireplaces through what's called the Floo Network, so it'll take you to the closest possible fireplace to where you want to go; in other words, it's kind of like a public bus system. Also fun fact: Harry's and Lucius' "Let's just hope Harry Potter will always be around to save the day" and "Don't worry, I will be" was improvised. Jason Isaacs (Lucius) wanted to have a big exit line, so Chris Columbus let him improvise to see what happened, and Daniel Radcliffe improvised his response. Apparently Isaacs had a lot of respect for him after that.
Everyone will have different favorites for different reasons: actors, action, and for the story progression. However, the 1st Harry Potter movie has a certain “magic” and nostalgia to it that can’t be beat. Just love them all.
The unique thing about Harry is that his personality traits made it hard to descide between Slytherin and Gryffindore. Him not wanting to go down a dark path put him in Gryffindore.
Harry could always talk in Parseltongue, remember the first movie at the zoo when his cousin went through the glass? He was talking in parseltongue when the snake was talking to him....
Since you had a few questions after the movie i'll try and respond without any spoilers from the next movies. At the dueling club scene Harry was not possessed by Voldemort. Harry has a very rare ability to talk to snakes and at that moment he was just telling the snake to back off from Justin Finch Fletchley. Everyone was scared because they didn't know this about him and also because both Salazar Slytherin and Voldemort both had that same ability. The voice Harry heard throughout Hogwarts was the voice of the basilisk. The magical car is a Ford Anglia and is basically a regular car that Mr. Arthur Weasley put spells on.
What got me confused about the snake scene is that Harry is supposed to tell the snake to not harm Justin FF, but Harry spoke to the snake 'before' the snake even turned to Justin FF, so how did he know it was going to attack JFF ?!
@@chris...9497 Ok, and? I never mentioned how Harry got the ability, it was already mentioned by Dumbledore himself in the movie. Voldemort getting some of his powers to "spill onto Harry" is also unrelated to what the question was and what i answered and so is the Riddle-Slytherin connection. Btw, your whole second paragraph is a spoiler and i was going for a spoiler-free explanation for someone that only watched the first two movies.
Hogwarts is protected by spells that make it unplottable (magically removed from mundane maps) and bewitched so that, if Muggles approached the castle, all they would see would be a mouldering ruin with a sign warning them to keep out and that it was unsafe.
Always seemed to me that a sign warning that it was unsafe would not be enough to keep muggles out. You know someone is going to want to start climbing around in the ruins, heedless of the danger of a decaying wall falling on them. So I assume there's some spell that actually influences them with the idea, "Yes, this would be a cool ruin to explore, but NO! It really is seriously dangerous - a big rock might fall on you and crush you, or you could fall down a shaft, etc. And if you really want to explore old castles, you're already in the UK, there are plenty of safe ones to go and see. Some of them not too far away in Scotland."
@@PhilBagels I'm guess you're right about the spells--something that makes them really afraid, or makes them think of urgent business elsewhere. And probably there are some spells further afield kind of directing them away first. I doubt anyone could approach the Forbidden Forest, for sure.
@@babs3241 Yes. Now that you mention that, I do seem to remember in the books saying that there's a spell that when muggles come too close, they suddenly remember that there's something else they need to go do.
some facts about this one: tom felton who played draco malfoy forgot his line at 34:42 so he ad-libbed "i didn't know you could read." director chris columbus loved the line and kept it in the film. actor jason isaac who played lucius malfoy wore a wig. he wanted to look notably different from his son. he also had to keep his head tipped backwards to keep the long wig from falling in his face. so this worked out well for the character, as he was always looking down his nose at the other characters. he also wasn't supposed to kick dobby, he improvised it when he swung his leg out, stepped down and swung his stick. they decided to use it. & i don't think lucius intended to kill harry at all, he intended to kill dobby. lucius is intelligent enough to understand how killing harry would end poorly for him. jason (lucius) has said that the scene called for lucius to begin casting a curse and that avada kedavra was the first curse he thought of in the moment. when lucius malfoy said "let us hope that mr. potter will always be around to save the day" daniel radcliffe (harry) ad-libbed his response, "don't worry, i will be." rupert grint who plays ron weasley is actually terrified of spiders and has not been able to watch that scene till this day. when goyle (draco's friend) was clapping at the end when everyone cheering for hagrid, tom (draco) stopped him because they weren't supposed to. the movies get darker after this, so be prepared. in this one, they wanted the movie to look darker, so he told the cinematographer to use more subdued lighting. they also desaturated the film in editing.this process continued throughout the entire series. each film becomes darker in turn, and has less and less color. it shows how the danger progresses, leading up to the finale, and also how the characters and getting older. richard harris (dumbledore) was hospitalised after falling very ill. they were going to start filming the third movie in the series very soon, he asked them not to re-cast dumbledore in harry potter and the prisoner of azkaban yet; hoping that he would pull through and be able to play the role. sadly, he passed away shortly afterward, and michael gambon was given the role of the headmaster in the third film. michael gambon recently passed away in 2023. RIP to them both 💔
The reason why Hagrid is carrying a dead rooster when he bursts into Dumbledore's office is because a rooster's crowing of lethal to basilisk, which is why, as it's explained in the book, the possessed Ginny killed Hagrid's roosters when the chamber was opened.
13:14 the castle is sorrounded by a lot of "repeling" charms (muggle don't want to pass the barrier). If they did push through and go on to the grounds they would see an illusion of ‘mouldy old ruins’ rather than the magnificence of Hogwarts, along with a sign to keep out.
The Kwikspell thing? Here’s what you need to know. Argus Filch is what the wizarding world calls a ‘Squib’. Squibs are people who have magical parents…but DON’T have magic themselves. Before he found out he was a squib, the Kwikspell program is a tutoring program for ‘late bloomers’, and he attended that program under the hope that he’d just been a late bloomer in developing magical powers, only to be saddened and angered when it ultimately turned out he had ZERO potential for magic at all.
This extended version is wild! I knew there were a couple of deleted scenes from this movie like Harry in detention with Lockheart but I feel like there's so much just in this reaction that's unfamiliar to me 😂😂😂 and I've seen these films dozens of times! I suppose there wasn't really an extended VHS version when i watched it 😂😂
Oh man, your reactions at the beginning about snakes and spiders, I knew this was going to be a great reaction.😂 And, speaking of Kenneth Branaugh and Shakespeare, have you seen Much Ado about nothing? Not serious, very Shakespeare, very Kenneth Branaugh (also a ton of cool actors you will recognize).
15:30 the irony of that statement is much more obvious now. I'll tell you why. The reason Harry Potter is so wealthy is his ancestors created this hair product that is so popular that it is still in use today in the wizarding world.
12:53 Actually, Filch is a Squib, which means a child of wizard parents who has the inability to use magic. If you read what is says in the back of the letter, it is from a course for begginers' magic.
Thank you both for being such great reactors, not being obnoxious or talking over crucial plot points - and just being a delight to listen to and watch! Watching this reaction was so refreshing after the last channel I watched HP on, I'll just leave it at that. I can't wait to see Prisoner of Azkaban - like so many, it's my fave ☺️
I didn't like how Dobby caused mischief for Harry Potter throughout the film by hiding the letters sent by Ron and Hermione, dropping the Pudding Cake on one of the House guests, preventing Harry and Ron from entering Platform 9 ¾ and especially controlling the Bludger during the Quidditch match. But by the end of the 2nd film I grew to like him. Finally It's crazy that the actor who voices Dobby, is none other than Tobby Jones was Arnim Zola from the Marvel Cinematic Universe and Ollie in _The Mist_
I cannot believe that's Tobby Jones wow I would never have recognized his voice! And yeah I can see getting annoyed with Dobby (especially if I were Harry) but he was just too charming for me not to like, not to mention a sweetheart even if some of his protective instincts are extreme/ misguided
@@nickreacts6394 Yeah Toby Jones is such an underrated actor and it somewhat surprises not many folks realize he was the voice of Dobby the House Elf as most know him as either Armin Zola and/or Ollie (The Mist) and to an extent Mr. Eversoll in _Jurassic World: Fallen Kingdom._ He also was recently seen in _Indiana Jones and the Dial of Destiny._
@@nickreacts6394 But going back on Dobby I agree I originally detested him especially when he stopped Harry and Ron from entering 9 ¾ to the Hogwarts Express and controlling the Bludger in the Quidditch match, but deep down I pity the House elf and shown sadness when Lucius abused him but was happy when Harry tricked Lucius by putting his sock that was meant for Dobby freeing him and protecting Harry from Lucius when he almost attempted to use the Killing Curse, so I took my words back on what I said on Dobby.
You have to understand the restraints on Dobby and how unusual it was for a house elf to work against the will of his master. Dobby cannot straight out warn Harry or tell house secrets to anyone outside the family he serves. and the ethics of not revealing secrets or badmouthing his family is so deeply ingrained that he instantly self-punishes any infraction he catches himself doing. My understanding is that house elves are genetically centered on their servitude, which is pretty weird. whether this is actually genetic or a socially-instilled belief doesn't matter in function. Dobby wanted to be a free elf, which is an alien and sickening prospect for any ordinary house elf, yet when Dobby was freed he continued working in the kitchens under Hogwarts's dining hall AND talking Dumbledore down in wages paid for Dobby's service. This reminds me of the theory of why the Israelites freed by Moses had to wander in the desert for 40 years; the enslaved generation had to die off so only Israelites who grew up not knowing overlords and masters could settle as a free people resistant to future enslavement.
Something I find that's a consistent theme with the books is that as the characters mature from year to year, so too does the content of their adventure.
18:59 fun fact: filch was so mad about mrs Norris being petrified because mrs Norris is actually his human wife. Mrs norris had transformed into her animagus (which was a cat) but she was never able to undo the spell and turn herself back into a human and has been stuck as a cat for years

@@chelsea9483 excellent point.
@@chelsea9483 A lot of people say the third one is the biggest change, where things start to really get darker, but I agree more with you.

I didn't think of that at all! One clear example of where less is more
The voice Harry heard was the basilisk speaking as it moved through the pipes. Harry says(after they find the note in Hermiones hand " The monster in the chamber is a basilisk, that's why I can hear it speak it's a snake"
Thank you for clarifying!

13:06 Hogwarts is located in the Scottish Highlands but there is a magic barrier surrounding it that makes it so if a muggle gets to close to hogwarts they will only see ruins of a castle and suddenly remember they have to do something and leave
Ron's squeaky scared voice is the best. It always cracks me up.
It’s in a deleted scene which I believe is added in the extended cut version.
Squibs are the opposite of muggle-borns (like Hermione who both of her parents are muggles).

@@chris...9497That was what they did in GoF for the Triwizard tournament. Muggles would suddenly remember appointments

The basilisks voice through the walls got me every time. Not to mention the spiders!
I'm surprised they made the sequel that quickly! When I saw there was just one year between release dates I was impressed

Why is Vernon Dursley so bent on preventing Harry from leaving when he so clearly despises him? He's torn between not wanting Harry in his home, and not wanting Harry to be happy.
Vernon’s #1 goal in life is to make Harry as miserable as possible. He might not want Harry in his house, but he’d rather him there and unhappy than Hogwarts and happy, trying to become a wizard.
And also discouraging the practice of magic, or anything not "perfectly normal".

43:54 Lucius malfoy kicking dobby down the stairs wasn't in the script Jason Isaacs improvised it as he thought it was in character.
After the director cut the scene, he asked Jason if he was okay as he thought he’d slipped - thinking the floor was wet 😅
Hagrid can't keep a secret he was really looking for flesh eating slugg repellent
Kenneth Branagh has also very recently played Hercule Poirot in the modern Poirot movies. He also directs those films.
Mama Weasley cares sooo much about Harry, I love her character
Even though Aragog told Ron and Harry the truth on Hagrid's innocence and on the Basilisk being the monster released from the Chamber of Secrets, I still won’t forgive and especially justify him and his Spider Children for literally attacking and attempting to eat Ron, Harry and Fang (Hagrid's Dog) moreso *ANYONE* that isn't Hagrid regardless if they are Friend or Foe, along with the fact Aragog coldly didn't allow Harry, Ron and Fang to leave.🕷️🕸️

Worse, Lockhart was literally the ONLY person who would take it. Word's been getting around that the Defense Against The Dark Arts Job is jinxed and after what happened to Quirrel in the last movie. . .well let's just say it hasn't exactly improved the position's reputation.
woahhh
what the heck?! I've never seen this version of the movie-- there's all sorts of added scenes I've never seen before (though admittedly, at this point it's been a few years since the last time I rewatched the movies themselves entirely rather than reactors watching it)
Pretty cool
I actually went on a job interview that was like Gilderoy Lockhart's class- it was a group interview (which made zero sense because I the qualifications and licensing for each position we were there for were different) that was started with everyone watching a short FILM about the boss's life...followed by a TEST with questions about the film! Questions like, "what was Doctor so-and-so's first job?" and "when did Doctor so-and-so move to this town?". It was actually graded by the office manager and the doctor who just sat there making sure everyone paid attention to this award-winning documentary. (I missed one question.)
I do love how Mom Weasely switches mental gears like a race driver going into a turn. Scold her kids, fawn on Harry, scold her kids, fawn on Harry.
Most underrated book/movie in the series, I always love suspenseful "whodunnit?" mysteries
@@subliminalstyrene811 Just the movie not showing the scene properly
@@chris...9497 Ok, and? I never mentioned how Harry got the ability, it was already mentioned by Dumbledore himself in the movie.
Voldemort getting some of his powers to "spill onto Harry" is also unrelated to what the question was and what i answered and so is the Riddle-Slytherin connection.
Btw, your whole second paragraph is a spoiler and i was going for a spoiler-free explanation for someone that only watched the first two movies.
there are so many scenes in this version that I am seeing for the first time .. didn't know there was an extended edition.
THE CHATGPT PROMO GOT ME CACKLING SKJDHJSK so uncalled for i love it
some facts about this one:
tom felton who played draco malfoy forgot his line at 34:42 so he ad-libbed "i didn't know you could read." director chris columbus loved the line and kept it in the film.
actor jason isaac who played lucius malfoy wore a wig. he wanted to look notably different from his son. he also had to keep his head tipped backwards to keep the long wig from falling in his face. so this worked out well for the character, as he was always looking down his nose at the other characters. he also wasn't supposed to kick dobby, he improvised it when he swung his leg out, stepped down and swung his stick. they decided to use it. & i don't think lucius intended to kill harry at all, he intended to kill dobby. lucius is intelligent enough to understand how killing harry would end poorly for him. jason (lucius) has said that the scene called for lucius to begin casting a curse and that avada kedavra was the first curse he thought of in the moment.
when lucius malfoy said "let us hope that mr. potter will always be around to save the day" daniel radcliffe (harry) ad-libbed his response, "don't worry, i will be."
rupert grint who plays ron weasley is actually terrified of spiders and has not been able to watch that scene till this day.
when goyle (draco's friend) was clapping at the end when everyone cheering for hagrid, tom (draco) stopped him because they weren't supposed to.
the movies get darker after this, so be prepared. in this one, they wanted the movie to look darker, so he told the cinematographer to use more subdued lighting. they also desaturated the film in editing.this process continued throughout the entire series. each film becomes darker in turn, and has less and less color. it shows how the danger progresses, leading up to the finale, and also how the characters and getting older.
richard harris (dumbledore) was hospitalised after falling very ill. they were going to start filming the third movie in the series very soon, he asked them not to re-cast dumbledore in harry potter and the prisoner of azkaban yet; hoping that he would pull through and be able to play the role. sadly, he passed away shortly afterward, and michael gambon was given the role of the headmaster in the third film. michael gambon recently passed away in 2023.
Ron : *yelps in terror* the girl watching : *laughing so hard she falls over* XD me: *watching the video* *laughs*
Dobby, Deek, and Todd(even though we never got to talk/see him happy with Deek) are my all time Favorite House Elves!
Do you mean Tobbs? From Hogwart's Legacy game?
@@slcs369 🤦♂️ Yes my bad, I think autocorrect switched it on me.
That makes me feel kinda sad for him honestly
Whenever my friend and I see a really big spider we're like "it was so big it asked me if I was friend of Hagrid" 😂😂😂
This extended version is wild! I knew there were a couple of deleted scenes from this movie like Harry in detention with Lockheart but I feel like there's so much just in this reaction that's unfamiliar to me 😂😂😂 and I've seen these films dozens of times! I suppose there wasn't really an extended VHS version when i watched it 😂😂
Rip to the actor who played Hagrid and the actor who played the first Dumbledore
Oh man, your reactions at the beginning about snakes and spiders, I knew this was going to be a great reaction.😂
And, speaking of Kenneth Branaugh and Shakespeare, have you seen Much Ado about nothing? Not serious, very Shakespeare, very Kenneth Branaugh (also a ton of cool actors you will recognize).
Kenneth Branagh also directed the first Thor movie!
15:30 the irony of that statement is much more obvious now. I'll tell you why. The reason Harry Potter is so wealthy is his ancestors created this hair product that is so popular that it is still in use today in the wizarding world.
Harry heard the snake in the walls just like he was able to hear the snake at the zoo in the first movie.
This is so nice to read, thank you! We try our best :) And we LOVED Prisoner of Azkaban
I LOVE how a handful of Slytherin students were seen cheering at the end!! Everybody loves Hagrid except for Draco, it seems!
You all are watching the extended version of the movie. Great sequel and series. Enjoy!!
Quynh is right about Harry, he knew he was speaking to the snake he just didn't realize he was speaking in parseltongue.
The voice is the basilisk traveling through the pipes within the walls.
@@nickreacts6394 "You will not harm Harry Potter! Hail Hydra!"
Something I find that's a consistent theme with the books is that as the characters mature from year to year, so too does the content of their adventure.
so much content lately nick, thanks!! xx
You're very welcome :)
Either I'm forgetting a bunch of stuff from this movie or there's extra scenes in here
Extra scenes for sure.
It's the extended edition
Love that you both are reacting to this series! The applause at the end for Hagrid makes me tear up every time
18:59 fun fact: filch was so mad about mrs Norris being petrified because mrs Norris is actually his human wife. Mrs norris had transformed into her animagus (which was a cat) but she was never able to undo the spell and turn herself back into a human and has been stuck as a cat for years
The new defense against the arts teacher is something else! The boys are like what’s with this guy. And the girls are all smitten with him! I had a teacher like that in 8th grade! My best friend at the time and I had the biggest crush on him! Lol! ❤💕
Little fact the warner bros logo gets darker with each movie in the franchise
Dobby has no master dobby is a free elf
28:18 "I didn't know you could read." Was actually improved by the actor Tom.
Malfoy saying "I didn't know you could read" was improvised, such a funny line haha.
32:48 Yes! "Christine" is a GREAT movie! Pure Stephen King magic! I saw it VERY LATE for the first time in 2015. Maybe you guys can save it for October and react to it. 47:02 Literally each follow-up movie is darker than the next. 48:25 Kenneth Branaugh DEFINITELY did Gilderoy Lockhart justice! 😂
Quynh's been having some great insights/predictions!
Each film gets a little darker than the one before. As they grow up, the story gets better and better. Can't wait for you to see them all.
Kenneth Branagh is also a director. For Disney alone, he has directed the first Thor movie and the live action remake of Cinderella.
"Bite his finger off!" LMAOOOOO
