I've been an educator for 24 years. I recognize excellent teaching when I see it. You sir, are an excellent teacher! You have the unique ability to make complex ideas seem relatively straightforward without talking down to those you're teaching. I really appreciate you sharing your knowledge. This was an excellent video tutorial!
I rarely ever respond to videos and such, yet this clip, is clear, concise and provides you with all one needs to know about adding a second amp to your rig. If only more of these so called “educator’s” did the same. Well done!!
I wasn’t expecting that guide to getting bass tones on a guitar without a bass player but it’s pretty handy for me bc of a how scarce musicians are in my area so I might end up having to use that method, thank you! This whole video is helping so much.
Thanks for the video just dipping my toes into the world of running amps in stereo and this was the most clear and easy to understand explanation I have found.
I started playing around with stereo rigs over covid. Wish I would've seen this vid before I started. I run into an AC15 and a Fender Twin/Pro/or Blues Jr, and sometimes 3 amps for kicks. I have to say, it makes everything sound 3 dimensional and opens up so much better at low volumes. I can never go back to just one amp. Thanks for the tips which help bring it all together.
Yes! Been running a Blues Jr for the wet and clean while running a Pro Jr for the dry and dirty. The combo of 12&10” speakers is awesome. It’s also good to have a second amp (that’s easy to transport) in case of any failures.
I had an orange amp but bought some Marshall headphones - so I was bound to order their amp; it arrived yesterday and I thought 2 together - you just made me realise what the other output in my Mooer box does, for once life smiled at me. Todays practise will be interesting.
Great advice/content. I purchased my first guitar in 1974 and haven't looked back since. I've found that the amplifier choice and diversity is much more important than what kind of guitar you use. I'm not playing out anymore, however my current rig is an old Plexi paired with a Twin Reverb I've had since 1976. Not a fun rig to move around, but for home recording it is the best of both worlds. Like I said, amplifier and speaker choices are perhaps the most important decisions you'll make concerning your final tone.
I’ve watched so many videos, some over an hour long trying to figure out how the heck to set this up. I should have just watched your 10 minute video from the start and been done! Thank you 🙏
I dream of one day bringing 10+ 100w stacks into someone’s bedroom while they are sleeping, plug in, and turn it up to 10 on every amp. I bet if the person is small enough, and you set the cabinets up just right, you can get them to float in the air after they jump out of bed from the shock.
So, the effects loop in the amps are not being used, in any of these examples. This is all a bit confusing. I have the ABY, with 2 amps, but I'm having a hard time getting true stereo, even with that. If the delays and modulation are in front of the one amp, fuzzes and overdrives aren't going to sound very good. Thanks for the information.
What about running multiple strymons in stereo with you effects loop on one amp and ping pong on second amp? I can’t find a video or diagram explaining this at all. Is it possible to even truly use the effects loop anymore? How?
Brilliant demo for a potentially confusing subject. Thank you. With the Orange Amps Detonator, you mention connecting the dry amp to the A output. Is that because the wet amp needs the isolated B output? Thanks.
imlostinthewoods; and I are retired teachers LOL!! How do you use the Quad Cortex and the GT1000 together? I'll send you a "CUP OF COFFEE!!" if you can figure this out! EEK, watching your videos I am looking at one of my students!
V That was brilliant and informative thank you. I'm wanting to use two combo amps at Live gigs (a Vox and a Blackstar) but use them separately and not simultaneous. The Vox for my jangley sound and the Blackstar for my more sonic and lead guitar. I'm still a bit confused though in that will I actually need an ABY pedal with phase and isolation switches if I'm only using them separately? Cheers
Hi...thank you for all...can I use the effect loop on my too Amps with a Aby pedal ? I don't want to put my wet Effects on the front. I want to be able to have too Amps with a dry/wet Signals.
For the funniest multi-amp setup, watch the J Mascis rig rundown. 2 Marshall and a HiWatt stack with a Twin because he likes the "tone". When I saw him 30+ years ago it was just Marshalls and a box of Overdrives.
I'm recording into two JFet DI pedals a Crunchy Fender about Malcolm Young Crunch but a fender with pedals strymon and fuzz for extra gain and delays Before the DI the next Channel a Cranked Plexi with Delay and reverb Going after the DI giving me two Channels. Stereo with one take. This will work for my amps as well. But Im here for a sereo rig I want the option of both amps solo or stereo.
I can't decide between my two processors...so I'm going to use both. In parallel . Wet dry sorta set up..but also utilizing multiple amps at times...sometimes as much as 4 amp models.
I have a 50w Plexi and a 50w Silver Jubilee handwired clone amps. Can I connect both these amps to my 4x12 cabinet and blend the sound together? How exactly would I wire that? Both my amps can do 4/8/16 ohms, and my cabinet does 4ohm mono, 16ohm mono, or 8ohm stereo. I'd like the tones to be blended. What about my effects? Would I put my pre-amp effects like overdrive and wah in front of the Plexi, and then all my other effects like reverd and delay in the FX loops of the Jubilee? Thanks!
In W/D setup, does the ABY switcher creates a signal/tone/volume loss as compared to direct to amplifier sound? or if for example a 30-watt amp will split into a 15-15 each? Great explanation and demo Btw.
What if your using amp emulation or modeling? Do u need a phase switch? Like say you have a line 6 multi fx on one side and a boss on the other...both running dual amps. Will you need a phase switch or will the modeling units keep things in phase themself?
I was wondering, I have 2 marshall MG100HCFX head and cabs, and when plugged into my Ernie ball stereo pan/volume pedal, it has a loud buzzing. Would this be the ground loop you're speaking of? I'm rather new to this dual setup and want to find the proper way to cancel out that noise so I can use my stereo setup.
i want to split my guitar going into my pedals and amps AND i also want a dry signal going into my audio interface. would this be better or would a DI box be better?
Question about wet/dry setup. In other schemas I have seen that line out from dry amp is used to feed the signal to wet effects. In case I would use an amp switcher, it would feed distorted signal to the wet effects, wouldn't it? But I think wet effects need clean signal?
Great info.. I am looking for an amp switcher with specific capabilities.. i was wondering if you had something that would complete this configuration successfully.. I am looking for an amp switching type product that will let me switch between two STEREO output guitar amps that I need to use with just two speaker cabinets (run in stereo). Is there any product in your line that will do that? Thank you..
I read somewhere about billie joe armstrong using two amps. One with higher gain for crunch and one with lower for more clarity. One was mid heavy and one scooped but I can’t remember which was which
When running stereo amps into a mixer, should you hard pan each amp left and right? Or blend the volumes. (This is for normal stereo signal with two diff amp tones and not a wet/dry setup)
great video! Just a quick question. I have a Boss DC-2w, that has two inputs and two outputs. If I was to use an ABY box, how would I hook up the DC-2w to have the stereo effect? Would each "to amp" on the ABY box be sent one to the input A and one to input B on the effect pedal, then from the pedal, each out would go to each amp?
How do you change channels between two guitar amplifiers at the same time? I run an ABY pedal but I don't want to use two different amp foot switches to change their channels.
Can I use stereo setup with pedalswitcher? Or do I have to use wet/dry setup then? I would like to have delay, reverb and chorus in one amp and other pedals in another amp.
I wonder how many unsuspecting buyers bought dummy heads and cabs because they were really cheap and didn’t know a 100w jcm800 really does cost 3500 bucks. Lol
Some multi-effects pedals have two outputs; could you theoretically use this as a way to connect to two amplifiers at once (acknowledging that you can't easily switch one off with a foot tap)?

Hear, hear! He did a fantastic job.

It took me 10 videos prior to this one. Most TH-camrs really know how to waste other people's time. It's a shame
Bravo. This is the best video on the topic. And in about 15 minutes as well.
This is a superb video - clear, thorough and yet concise enough so as not to be overwhelming. Excellent stuff, thank you.
I wasn’t expecting that guide to getting bass tones on a guitar without a bass player but it’s pretty handy for me bc of a how scarce musicians are in my area so I might end up having to use that method, thank you! This whole video is helping so much.

This was delivered in the best way possible. Hats off!!

Same here- running dual Orange AD15 amps with stereo tape delay.
Yes! Been running a Blues Jr for the wet and clean while running a Pro Jr for the dry and dirty. The combo of 12&10” speakers is awesome.
It’s also good to have a second amp (that’s easy to transport) in case of any failures.
This is one of the best tutorials I've ever seen. Thanks for the post.
Confession - hiring two 4x12 Marshalls just for the look. I only did it once but every guitarist should do it at least once.
Thank you very much, I was wondering how to do this and you explained everything so well! Cheers
one of the better videos around this topic I've seen - good looks mate
Great video, very very helpful! Subscribed.
the single most useful video of that topic.. absolutely masterclass 👍
GOD BLESS YOU, MY SON!!!! GREAT VIDEO
Amps sound amazing in the intro
I had an orange amp but bought some Marshall headphones - so I was bound to order their amp; it arrived yesterday and I thought 2 together - you just made me realise what the other output in my Mooer box does, for once life smiled at me. Todays practise will be interesting.
The sounds ur getting are sick...making me excited to expirememt.
Excellent video. Really cleared the basics up for me.
I love his voice. I could hear him talk all day
Great advice/content.

Same. Most TH-camrs suck
Fantastic Video!!!
Excellent video.
What a great video. Cheers.
Maybe I should use a wall of Marshalls as an alarm clock for my neighbor.

Thank you so much for the isolated output tip
"maybe you think your hearing is over rated" haha that made me laugh xD
Great tech explained succinctly! Bravo! 'Alan
Best YT of how all this works yet. Kept simple and for the Bed Room Jammer!
Another top video. Very helpful. Question is now Stereo or Wed/Dry? Should be fun trying these out.
Thank you for showing me how the stage musicians get that beautiful full sound!
Awesome, thank you!
you are my guitar hero, thanks for the music porn. you are stupendous at explaining things in laymen's terms. now i must absolutely buy more gear.
Super helpful my friend! Here’s to you. 🤘🏼🤘🏼
Excellent, informative video and super guitar licks.
Very informative, thanks for this
Wow thanks! That was super informative.
Fantastic tutorial video!
What a class!
Great job of covering different scenarios. I learned a couple tips from you video. Thanks 👍
Really practical, clear video.
Great explanations Sir. Thank you hugely.
Best explanation yet. Thanks heaps.

Great Video, thanks a lot for this little lesson :) FR
Well done. I use some of these strategies already, but you've given me a couple of new ideas to think about as well.
What about running multiple strymons in stereo with you effects loop on one amp and ping pong on second amp? I can’t find a video or diagram explaining this at all. Is it possible to even truly use the effects loop anymore? How?
great vid! Clarified a lot of questions I had.
Great breakdown.
Thanks! Very clear explanation!
Thanks for your help bro!!😀👍
Great video. Thanks!
I miss seeing a wall of Marshall's. You knew you were in for a good time. Atleast the likes of Malmsteen still uses a wall.
Really awesome tutorial, great, thank you :)
Thank you for this useful info.

Where does the aby switch sit in terms of pedal order? I have a pedalboard with a looper as the last pedal. Any help greatly appreciated
When using a bass amp and Micropog, do you try to set the bass amp at the same volume as the guitar amp?
So, in your wet/dry rig example, the timeline will be run only in mono not stereo?
Excellent, well explained, so easy to understand!👏👏👏
I can't decide between my two processors...so I'm going to use both. In parallel . Wet dry sorta set up..but also utilizing multiple amps at times...sometimes as much as 4 amp models.
Multiple Amps!! DOORS Hollywood Bowl!! The fire marshall shut them down!!
11:35 How could I connect the chorus to fx loop of both amps in case the pedal has only one in? Thank you

Meat, the higher gain one, is scooped
Hello, I have a question…
If I plug 2 amps into 1 AB y pedal, can I plug that into another AB y pedal to connect another amp, totaling 3 amps??
When running stereo amps into a mixer, should you hard pan each amp left and right? Or blend the volumes. (This is for normal stereo signal with two diff amp tones and not a wet/dry setup)
I was really hoping this video showed a 4 cable method on 4 amps lol.
Whats the best method to connect multiple stereo output pedals
can i use aby pedal into two amp simulator pedals to achieve this?
great video!

Can you use a Boss Fs-6 for this?
How do you change channels between two guitar amplifiers at the same time? I run an ABY pedal but I don't want to use two different amp foot switches to change their channels.
will that orange ABY box work with a bass guitar running 1 amp for low end and one amp for highs and distortion??
How would you pan 2 guitarists both using dual amps, for live or for a studio recording?
Can I use stereo setup with pedalswitcher? Or do I have to use wet/dry setup then? I would like to have delay, reverb and chorus in one amp and other pedals in another amp.
can you use 2 Identical amps with 1 footswitch?like a black spirit 200 head,can you control 2 of them using 1 footswitch?thanks
2:29 john mayer not using effects pedals? 😬😬
Please can you explaine for us slaved amp. You explaine very goooooood

The hearing loss is actually attributed to loud headphone use.
Some multi-effects pedals have two outputs; could you theoretically use this as a way to connect to two amplifiers at once (acknowledging that you can't easily switch one off with a foot tap)?
yes
Good video, but did he just say Mayer isn’t known for using pedals to shape his sound?
