How to Fix A Slipping Rock Tumbler

  • I was recently gifted this Lortone QT rock tumbler. It's very old, but it's in great shape. There was an issue with it though. The barrels would slip on the rollers. To fix that problem, I simply took some hockey tape I had lying around and wrapped it around the drive roller. The solution is very effective.

Thanks, dude. This is way better than hearing about drive belt tension for the billionth time! (I KNOW ABOUT IT; THAT AIN'T THE PROBLEM) 😵‍💫

Leave it to a guy from Minnesota to fix his tumbler with hockey tape. Good solution!

I feel like hockey tape is a Minnesotan’s version of duct tape😂😂

Loved your ingenuity! It was so Minnesota: “It’s not any special brand of hockey tape, it’s just what I had laying around the house.” That was a better solution than what I tried - rubber bands around the barrel. The rubber bands broke during the night and the grit started to solidify; what a mess! (I ended up replacing the belt.)

Great job. Might have to try this on our tumbler.
I have a really large home made one.
We had used insulation tape, but we will give this a go.

Hmm. I was considering using heat shrink tubing or maybe sliding on automotive fuel line. This looks easier!

That's funny.. just today I rebuild my old Lortone 33B.. new rollers bushings and belts.. mine rollers were so bad.. almost worn thru the rubber on the shaft.. I bought it years ago to clean coins I found metal Detecting... I put a lot on and it spun pretty fast😀 but wore out the bushings even faster😬
