Planet Normal: Co-pilots barrage Nigel Farage l Podcast

  • In this very special episode of Planet Normal, your co-pilots strap into the rocket with Leader of Reform UK, Nigel Farage. In a true rocket grilling Nigel reveals if the Party is actually racist, how many votes he expects to win at the upcoming election, and if he really would stand down candidates in Tory marginal seats.
    Also on this episode with Labour heading for a big majority, what do your co-pilots make of the party manifestos hitting the headlines this week?
    Liam thinks the Tory manifesto is more about keeping the Party together than appealing to the electorate. Whilst Allison thinks that the incoming Labour government could soon ‘come a cropper’ even with a storming majority…
    And did Allison manage to return from her holiday to Turkey without another furry friend, listen to find out…

    As a Canadian, I became an observer of Nigel since he served in the EU Parliament. I found him to be a singular and underappreciated talent. He was the best type of populist. The contrast between the 'elitist ' vibe of the EU and Nigel's 'regular guy just out of the neighborhood pub' vibe was stark. He was passionate, informed and acerbic. All of that and one of the most natural orators of our time. The fact he is willing to be 'barraged' speaks to his confidence in his message.

    It is so very refreshing to listen to a political leader who is so honest, straight talking, and true. His problem is overcoming the unbridled hostility, bias, and political bigotry of the media establishment.
    Image remains one of the primary determining factors in determining how someone votes.
    But, rather like Margaret Thatcher, Nigel Farage has a vision and remarkable force of will that may serve to overcome that handicap.
    I do hope so.

      "Political bigotry of the media establishment"? Farage has had more airtime than any other politician. He has had blanket support from the Daily Mail, Telegraph, Times and Express. Plus numerous interviews, podcasts and his own spot on GB News, and LBC.

    I would argue that wanting to limit immigration _is_ now the centre-ground. I think the _average_ Brit probably has quite reasonable attitudes on immigration. They see the value in cosmopolitan societies. They're all for issuing more visas if we have available housing. They welcome people who have some useful skills, speak decent English, and share the country's core values.
    But they acknowledge there are some problems with wage deflation, international crime, extremist infiltration, asylum fraud, social cohesion; and pressure on housing, welfare, and public services.
    Whereas the policy of all main parties seems to be some variation on _"Import a million people every year with very lax screening."_

    • @1milliondogs
      @1milliondogs 14 วันที่ผ่านมา +8

      If we are going to discuss the value of cosmopolitan societies, we should be able to openly exclude the ones whose values do not mesh well with our own, or in some cases hold views that are objectively evil.
      Happy to have many cultures living together, but that only works when those cultures can respect one another.

    • @andybrice2711
      @andybrice2711 14 วันที่ผ่านมา +3

      @@1milliondogs Precisely. I think there is something beautiful about the cross-pollination of different cultures. And a moral case to be made for a certain degree of multicultural pluralism.
      But that does not extend to people who want to see democracy overthrown. (Such as Islamists and CCP agents.) Tolerance must be mutual.

    As someone who is voting reform and was brought up in a Thatcherite household who still thinks the market is normally the best option to economic decisions, I am starting to understand that the Thatcherite Neo liberalism did help to cause some of the societal and cultural issues like mass immigration.
    I’d be interested to ask Nigel that if it came to his Britain first policy or his Thatcherite economic preference, how would he square those somewhat uneasy bed fellows and what would he drop and what would he prioritise.
    Would he look to do something similar to his mate Donald and deregulate when possible but also not be afraid to use tariffs and protectionism??

      Bliar was largely responsible for massive migration. He changed the rules, brought in the human rights act so that judges could meddle rather than stick to the law of the case, brought in the supreme court that meddles, etc, all to suck up to the EU and " rub the rights noses in diversity" (a direct quote from one of his advisors).

They went from 3 MEPs down to just one. The party that gained the most, trendwise, was the far left. I want Reform to succeed, but beyond Nigel and Tice, are there any capable political operators within the party who can navigate Westminster effectively? While some of the candidates appear to be nice people, I fear the savvy elites would easily gobble them up. A bit like the naive Starks when they get to King's Landing in the first season of Game of Thrones.

    I have, in the past, had my reservations regarding Nigel. I have worried that he's a quick fix politician but this interview has made me believe that he is in it (Reform) for the long haul, which I now believe he will win. His honesty is a breath of fresh air. His ideas/beliefs are not always what we want to hear, but it needs to be said and understood. Great podcast and I have subscribed. A win win all around!

    I think I have a simple solution to the Private Schools VAT debate: Put a tax-free allowance on school fees. Maybe £8,000 per year (the approximate price of a state education). That way, only expensive elite schools are taxed, and more accessible ones remain accessible.

    • @xenosscape8573
      @xenosscape8573 14 วันที่ผ่านมา +2

      people want less taxes thanks, your logic is what leads to more taxes., the same logic was used under so called health , for the sugar tax.
      when in reality schools should have just taught cooking once again and healthy eating.

      @@xenosscape8573 Apparently people don’t especially want lower taxes at the moment. It’s low on the list of voter priorities. Many people would be willing to pay a bit more tax if it leads to functioning public services. Otherwise Labour wouldn’t be winning.

    After the red wall collapsed in 2019, I said to friends the Tories will have one chance at this. Either hugely reduce immigration and give the ciuntry the brexit it wanted or Labour willget in and the first thing they will do is lower the voting age to 16, and that will be the last time we will see a none left wing party winning.
    I was told i was talking nonsense. I wish i was.

    Love that young people are starting to wake up to the fact that it’s ok to “lock” our doors for safety and our health. If it’s ok to lock our doors of our home to protect ourselves , and we multiply this scenario to the country we live in , we should collectively have the right to lock our borders. We haven’t even had a referendum to ask the people what they want. Appalling.
