- New Amsterdam Travel Video- The Amsterdam Light Festival is one of the biggest events of the year. But over the last couple of years (not including the limited edition festivals during Corona) both the quantity and the quality of the installations has lessened. We didn't film it in 2019 and we've seen an increasing number of negative comments on social media. So in this video, besides showing you a video of the artworks, we will also give you tips on what to expect and tell you the best ways to experience the festival to get the most out of your visit. We hope our suggestions will help you avoid some disappointment or frustration.

Very helpful video! Are there any specific open boat tours you would recommend?
I always love Dam Boat Guys. If they don’t have an open boat, they do have an outside area in the back. But check them out and see what is possible

@@amsterdamwalks if you are into the light sculptures, you have to see them up close. I enjoyed walking than by boat this year.

I think one thing we can all agree on is, the more the organisers start to charge for the privilege of seeing the festival (this years route map was only available for 7.50 EU in digital format on smartphone and QR code and no longer could you purchase a small route map leaflet for just 2.50 EU from the GVB at Centraal Stationsplein as we did in 2020), the less you actually get in return. I suppose that in these times we live in, even art isn't exempt from the ravages of capitalism and blatant profiteering.
Although I've never asked the organization directly, I'm pretty sure the smaller amount of sculptures and the focus on the boat route is not a result of profiteering. It's probably just the realities of the costs and regulations of putting on a festival of this size. Lack of funding, city residents not wanting the routes to go by their houses, etc.....The organization tries to adapt to a worsening situation. But at some point they'll have to decide if what they're creating is still enjoyable for the public.

I understand how you feel. Actually this year seemed better than edition 8, which was the full festival before Corona. But it isn't as big and bold as in the beginning years. Maybe it will get back to that level.
@@ACwebseries well I will tell you what the biggest missing thing was the interaction walking along meeting locals and communicating and the odd street vendor coffee walking along it was more than lights it was a great social event away from the chaos of a bust city a great escape and we’ve meet some great people and become friends forget it being rain a lot that dosent come innto it this time it was defunct if thoughts and fealings to make you stand back and think I’m innthe barbizon close buy to trip boats and you here them say what a dissapointment actually I am being nice they say more it’s fealing less and it’s never ever bin that far from it I love Amsterdam calling always have all about fun let’s hope some one somewhere takes nitice this year and it’s not repeated we want the lights to mirror life and fealing in a time we need it most keep up the good work I Amsterdam 🥰

Is it still good? I’m thinking about going tomorrow with a girl on a second date. Are there still lights going on throughout the city? Because I live here but haven’t seen those lights at all
