Easter egg: Hope was killed by Bucky. In the Winter Soldier, Natasha references a past mission in Odessa where she was shot by him. Looks like in this reality, Hope was the agent on that mission and was killed in action.

Odin would be in the Odin-sleep at this point after Loki confronted him about being adopted. Which is kind of a problem with Loki's plan at the end. If Odin is alive he's going to wake up and take kingship of Asgard back and is unlikely to let Loki keep Midgard (unless he is REALLY angry about Thor). If Odin is dead then this might be the world they use for 'Marvel Zombies' as Hela will be Queen and will be coming to conquer the Nine Realms with her army of the dead.

So the nexus event is Hope van Dyne joining SHIELD instead of Pym Industries, likely wanting to be the hero Janet was. And the Winter Soldier kills Hope on a SHIELD mission in Odessa, Ukraine. Losing both Hope and Janet would definitely have pushed Hank on the edge. In the Sacred Timeline, Natasha survived that encounter but the scientist she was escorting gets killed anyway. (Captain America: The Winter Soldier)
Hank Pym going obsessive over the death of Hope makes perfect sense given what was discussed back in Ant-Man -- that he had to give up the suit because it was making him more and more mentally unbalanced. I doubt Loki had anything to do with it, given that Loki at that point was more focused on manipulating Thor and showing Odin that Thor wasn't ready to be king. He didn't particularly seem to care about Earth at that point in the original movie.

So in this one, after Janet "died", Fury offered Hope a job as a SHIELD agent to replace her. And everything went to hell as a result. (People are also pointing out that the description of the mission Hope died on lines up with a mission Natasha described where the Winter Soldier shot her. So there's a good chance in this universe, Hope went on that mission and Bucky's the one who killed her.)
this more like the comics actually, What If? issues almost always ended really HORRIBLY. I like them sprinkling a little less doom in, but having dark/bad fates is/must be part of the series.
also remember in antman Hank Pim explained Why he stopped being antman because the pim particles were altering his mind and making him go crazy So Hank being evil has nothing or do with Loki It's just the lost of his family and the mix of the pim particles
Good thing I watched your recent Avengers Campus vlog before I watched the new 'What If' episode earlier because I was todays years old when I remembered what "Pym" was connected to, due to seeing the name in the vlog. Coincidently helpful. (I like the Twilight Zone-ish theme music, 'What If' would be cozy to binge during Halloween season)
That scene where Hulk bubbled up like that and exploded reminded me of the movie Blade when Deac Frost gets injected with all that serum in that fight. I loved the voice for Black Widow, but Hawkeye's voice seemed a bit strange to me. I am left wondering if Cap's shield is still in the ice, why didn't anybody find it until now? Nick Fury seemed to know where to go and why was Captain Marvel right there at that same time?
I loved his episode and liked that Hank Pym has the accurate suit of Yellowjacket! I liked that in the end there’s still hope but not in the way that in was staring in the first phase.
In TWS, Nat says that Bucky shot her tires near Odessa. Pym mentions his daughter died there. I think Hope went on that mission instead and was killed by the Winter Soldier.
Hank is wearing the Yellowjacket suit here,- just like he did the first time he went kinda nuts in the comics. Nice touch, that. There's no Wanda or Quicksilver in this Universe because Loki never got the staff with the Mind gem in it. Nick could get the Iron Man armor for Rhodey to wear it...Falcon is still possible. And T'Challa. Loki would probably go after the Time Stone eventually, so you could add the Ancient One to s potential Avengers lineup... And Sif and the Warriors Three would definitely stand against Loki eventually. The funny thing is, Earth would probably end up much stronger once Loki is deposed- if Odin awakens and either replaces or reigns Loki in, Earth would prosper! No wars, no diseases, longer lives, flying jetskis.... Earth would have the Tesseract (Space Stone) as well as the Time Stone and, eventually, the Reality stone too- and all of Asgard and Earth to protect them!
Its kinda tragic that in What If Loki can easily take over the entire world with the asgardian army/easily 1v1 Hank Pym in a Yellowjacket suit, but in his own show he struggles vs regular guards. I hope season 2 of Loki makes an effort into getting the protagonist back into shape and explains why he was so weak in season 1.
I am so willing to bet that Banner's murder was from the writers being aware of that ongoing Ant-Man vs Thanos joke... but had to do it differently for obvious reasons hehehe
Loki didn't want Thor dead... He loves his brother. It would be better if from here Loki took Thors spot on the Avengers, Loki did work with Fury to get Pym. And also if Loki was working with Pym he would've known who Loki was. He didn't know who the "goth kid" was. So definitely wasn't Loki. Also I think there's more at play because with Loki and the asgardians showing up at the United Nations... someone would've had to tell Loki where it was and how it functions... I think Loki is still working with Fury to find out who else was working with Hank.
So the whole "taking over the world with Asgard's military might" is like a feint? To sniff out the Real Killers? Loki could have figured out the United Nations and current world governments when he was here for the D.B. Cooper heist.
This whole episode asked what if phase one was rebooted because Hope was actually a Shield agent who died in the line of duty and Hank Pym finally went as crazy as he was in the comics and decided to kill the Avengers before they formed for vengeance. Luckily in the end they have both Captains on deck so Loki is fucked and the entire world is in good hands
This felt a lot like that comic furys big week for going backwards and forwards between the avengers storylines in the different movies and like in the other comics this episode shows hank pyms mental/psycological issues
I think Hank Pym unknowingly colluded with Loki. Because Hank said that Thor's death was "a favor". And yeah, he didnt recognize Loki when they first met, but knowing Loki, he could've shapeshifted as someone else when manipulating Hank.
@@cleuziclei Its possible. But idk...feels way too convenient for Loki to show up with an Asgardian army just when Hank was starting to kill off the Avengers. Also, there's the question...Why now? Hope had already been dead for 2 years. Why did Hank decide to start killing off the Avengers now? I cant shake the feeling that Loki helped to push some buttons.
This reminds me of why I didn't care for most of Snyder's DC stuff. I dug the mystery but I'm glad this is only a "what if" story, the Avengers aren't very interesting when they're dead.

All in all...great episode. Loving What if... so far. Marvel is Awesome as always.
No, Loki did not manipulate Hank Pym. Trauma and continued usage of the particles for that. The first Ant Man he discloses that he can't wear the suit anymore. And even in the comics he was always kind of a violent asshole, and does actually become Yellowjacket
Actually, Wendy, you're right. Hank Pym was the original ANT-MAN, so you right to refer to him as "Ant-Man"--although in this universe, he's dressed as Yellow Jacket. Wendy Was Right All Along! 👍🤣 I think Thor in this universe replicated the same events in the THOR movie until he was killed and Loki really was seeking vengeance, because deep down he really does love him as a brother like in our universe--but seeking an opening to conquer Midgard with the force of an Asgardian army backing him up, well, that was too good to pass up.
Shows just how powerful, brutal & versatile the Ant-Man character can be! Lake Bell joining Jeffrey Wright as the latest actor to get that DC & Marvel money!
Kinda telling that Hank is still wearing the Ant Man suit, since it probably means that in this universe, he ignored the effects Pym particles were having on his brain or body, kinda driving him insane little by little, and then his daughters death driving him over the edge. I had the slightest feeling Loki might've been behind it too, but then again, hes busy at this point dealing with his Jotun heritage discovery, tricking the other Jotuns into killing Odin, ruining Thors big day, lying to his mom, then his bro dies, so then hes got a war with Midgard...too much on his plate to be the main antagonist right now. And I love the allusion to a battle between Captain America teaming up with Captain Marvel and SHIELD to take on Loki. Although, I dont think Odin's gonna be too pleased one of his sons is dead, and ... well ... considering how powerful Odin is compared to Thor, Midgard would be a hunky of lifeless rock where a planet used to be, lol!
The only thing didn't like about this episode(and the other episodes) is that...it ended. I can do this all day. Hmm, where have I heard that before? 😄
I realise it wasn't Scarlett doing voicework, but Black Widow neither sounded or looked like the movie version for me. My only big criticism of this series so far tbh

All in all...great episode. Loving What if... so far. Marvel is Awesome as always.
Hank Pym has always hated Shield and the Starks
The moment I knew it wasn’t fury was when he said I didn’t care about any of them
Do you guys take notice of the opening credits to see how many / which original MCU actor(s) they got back to voice the characters ?
Robert Downey Jr. and Scarlet Johansson didn’t voice their characters
No, Loki did not manipulate Hank Pym. Trauma and continued usage of the particles for that. The first Ant Man he discloses that he can't wear the suit anymore. And even in the comics he was always kind of a violent asshole, and does actually become Yellowjacket
Hope went and died at the hands of winter soldier in place of natasha who in our timeline survived!!
I think it was Hank Pym only and then Loki took advantage of the situation.
Actually, Wendy, you're right. Hank Pym was the original ANT-MAN, so you right to refer to him as "Ant-Man"--although in this universe, he's dressed as Yellow Jacket. Wendy Was Right All Along! 👍🤣
I think Thor in this universe replicated the same events in the THOR movie until he was killed and Loki really was seeking vengeance, because deep down he really does love him as a brother like in our universe--but seeking an opening to conquer Midgard with the force of an Asgardian army backing him up, well, that was too good to pass up.
Except in this one Yellowjacket is more comic accurate then the first Antman film
I just saw the episode it very interesting episode. This what if show getting great .
I thought it was Coulson too at first. I was so worried
Shows just how powerful, brutal & versatile the Ant-Man character can be!
Lake Bell joining Jeffrey Wright as the latest actor to get that DC & Marvel money!
17:40 the second episode ended with the beginning of the end of the world
Black widow went "blue dress" on me. You figured it out real time. Nice job!
At least Coulson survived this time
Loved this one too. Great stories.
Was waiting for your reaction from morning here at India 👏🏻
agreed
This reminded me of identity crisis by DC
Its crazy how dark this episode was!!!
that episode took me for a loop
The two women that want Banner are together and neither can save him.
He DID kill Black Widow, showed her coffin at the end
He had no idea 😂
She figured it all out !?
Great episode! It was an awesome murder mystery!
I suspected Coulson too!!! I would've cried 😭
Me too
If Thor is kept apart from Mjolnir for more than a few minutes, he would turn mortal.
The only thing didn't like about this episode(and the other episodes) is that...it ended. I can do this all day. Hmm, where have I heard that before? 😄
One crazy episode and I love it.
"What if it's Coulson ?" How dare you Ma'am
I’m sorry 😭
This episode is a murder mystery
Cant wait for Dr. strange episode next
Wait I'm lost, what was the nexus event in this world?
I realise it wasn't Scarlett doing voicework, but Black Widow neither sounded or looked like the movie version for me. My only big criticism of this series so far tbh
nasty...and yeah, Hank is a very dangerous man indeed. Loki is agile, he took advantage of the situation
I was so close when they killed Hawkeye I felt it was antman then when hulk die I thought it was antman growing in hulk and blowing up lol then I saw hank I was disappointed 😂
The pager is from Captain Marvel, not Ms. Marvel. Ms. Marvel is a different person, her name is Kamala Khan.
ah yes, slip of the tongue. My brain thought Captain Marvel, but my mouth said Ms. Marvel 🙈
@@TheMovieCouple thats what I thought
That was such an amazing episode! Also confirms Ant-Man could have killed Thanos.
