They did have rubber bands in the 1930s. Indy has one around the notebook he uses in the Well of Souls. Henry Sr. Was writing in the grail diary in the 19 teens in the Last Crusade
yes, I tried to correct it in the edit, what I meant was they probably didnt have those that were integrated into the book, like this one is. but a loose one yes.
I bought this one and got it looking pretty screen-accurate in an evening after work. I folded, creased and crushed the leather case then worked away at it with a nail file for about an hour and a half to age and weather it. I filled a Roasting Pot with boiling water and tea-bags, and gave the Booklet a bath for about 2 minutes - until the pages began to warp and tear, then went at it with a hair-drier with added a nice curled edge effect. I folded up some Christmas Cards into 8ths and wedged them into the centre of the diary to act like Springs, giving it some tension and fattening it up like the one in the film. This worked for me as I never need to open it, it's only for display next to my Grail in my cabinet. All things considered, I'm actually pretty pleased with it as a display piece for just an evening's work, as the more thorough Grail Diaries can cost a fortune.

He made it look identical based on screen shots from the movies which showed a limited number of pages that are clear on film. Don't know if he still reproduces it, but his reproductions looked like the real deal. They were not massed produced. He would receive the order with money and informed the customers how long it would take to complete the product reproduction.

I bought the 45$ Bundle Book with Holy Grail Cup at Amazon, and it thankfully does not look like the one you ordered. The book is nearly 5 inches thick with dozens of well printed pictures and maps!
My brother bought me this diary for my birthday. He knows I'm really into Indy and the costume and prop collecting but has absolutely no interest himself, so it's a really sweet thought, even if the diary leaves... something to be desired. Given I was touched by the thought, I wanted to see if I could save it. I've found you can mod it into something that is, at least, useable as a rough prop. I scrunched up all the pages, giving it wear and bulk, and all of the inserts. I cut out the inserts that were just photographs of clippings too. This gave it a LOT more bulk like in the movie. Rather than weather the faux leather cover, I actually settled for painting it with light brown paints, and rubbing them into the groves and cracks, then using a hard brush to give it a weathered look. It's FAR from perfect, you still have the awful glossy pages, the inserts are still mostly blurry, but given the price gap between this and a real replica diary, you can't complain at all really.

You forgot to mention that Indy's father would have addressed the package to Henry Jones Jr. not Indiana Jones, since he always referred to Indy as "Jr." . The only time He called him "Indiana" was when he wanted to stop Indy from killing himself while trying to retrieve the grail from a ledge.
I was thinking about ordering this one - until I seen this. BUT I'm wondering if I aged it (which would thicken up the pages) if that would at least make it great for a conversation piece. But then, Im wondering about the kind of paper that is bound in the booklet! The glossy paper probably would not age as well unless the gloss can be reduced without ruining them somehow. Im gonna think on it a bit more before I make the stretch. Trouble is - Amazin wants $20 or so for it now! $10 maybe but Im thinking not 20.
Another viewer sent me a video of one of those that he had aged up. And it did look better, but it looks best closed up so you only see the warped paper. The aging doesnt really work for the pages if you plan on flipping g through them. And for 20 I would look elsewhere. But I have heard form some that found some cheap diaries that were a lot better than this, sp there might be some budget options out there, but its tricky to know before you buy. It's also fairly cheap to make yourself, if you like crafting stuff...

Most of the diary pages are probably from a game version or something. Certainly slapped together crap money grab. The second one, yes Etsy, but costing quite a bit more made by Swak Props. It is insanely well crafted and perfect. The attention to detail was astounding, he put some time into every detail and is well versed in the prop's build history. He hand crafted the leather binding then aged and assembled the signatures. The inserts are impeccable and on appropriate papers. If you want to go all out, that's the guy.
it is still really cool. i would love to have one. i have a cheap indy hat. i also have a good one. the good one is in a box. i cant enjoy it as it is vintage. new with tags. my cheapo costume fedora i wear and have fun in it. i think it is cool. for 10 bucks. that is a bargain. still fun to look at.

This was my first diary so i don't want to recommend anyone specific, but take a look at Etsy. But a good hand-made one with good inserts will run a couple of hundred at least.
You definitely got scammed. I got something more legit with interactive pieces that’s felt real, and the best part is that the pieces in the diary actually made sense being in it.
By the way, that one looks really low budget/fantasy. The pages and the book aren't even worn, should you create that look yourself? How? In the dryer together with some shoes. 😂😂
