How deep is a blowout usually? i always tattoo too light because im afraid to blowout skin. I am just getting the hang of finding the dermis but im still nervous to go too deep
It's better to go shalllow then too deep. Just keep praticing around your length and eventually you'll find the sweet spot. You can always fix those lines later but a blowout is forever.
Exactly what I want to know...I'm new to tattooing and practicing on fake skin is easy but my skin isn't as thick as the fake skin so I'm afraid I'll go to deep and have a blowout and I don't wanna do that
Thanks for the video. I’ve read the other comments and I’m on the same page 😅I ask questions here and there but all I’m ever told is to go get an apprenticeship, which I am. Just now it’s rough money wise so I can’t. I just watch videos and draw mess around with stencils and occasionally tattoo on fake skin
You’re welcome Savage! I appreciate you taking the time to drop a comment and I appreciate your support. Thank you. Getting an apprenticeship is a touchy subject within the tattoo industry. Some artist see it one way others see it another. I’m not against either or but that’s just my take. I can understand how hard it can be for others to progress and develop let alone get an apprenticeship.
@@DanielYuck I’ll be on that apprenticeship when my life levels out more financially but it’s just crazy how some of these skilled artists just beat you down the tree when you’re just curious 🤣

I have skinmy fingers i did a small area on finger black out just want to know its seems like 2mm is a little deep but i kinda think i did pretty good my skin on my finger where the ink feels rough like you feel the ink dried on top the finger is that normal the next day after ?
Tattoos drying out is completely normal. It is apart of the healing process. I don’t like to keep my fresh tattoos dried for a long time but again it is apart of the healing process and it is normal. It really just depends on the tattoo itself and how it was applied.
That’s a great question! When it comes to shading it is nothing like lining and I don’t approach it the same way. With shading I build up layer after layer as opposed to lining I go straight in to deposit the ink as opposed to building up the layers. I do have various video where I share with you how I go about shading that are available on my TH-cam channel. If you head over the the video tab in my channel you can type in shading and locate loads of videos where I explain in depth about shading.
That’s a good question! I have never found a need to bend any of my needle cartridges. I always just open, plug , play and I’m off tattooing. I know bending is common with barred needles but not too common in cartridges.
I feel like this is a great question that brings up a great point. When it comes to turns to set the right needle depth can't be said by a number of turns. Every machine has different sizes and dimensions, every grip also varies in size. Needle depth preferences also vary from artist to artist so there wouldn't be a set number of turns to set the correct needle depth. We would have to use our eye and best judgement to find the needle depth setting that is right best for you as the artist. Also every artist will set their needle depth setting different so I feel like there would not be 1 answer to this question.
hi im still learning myself but i 2 hang my needle quite alot as its easier 2 see. how i seem to work it is i hang around 4mm. and use half that length in the skin 1.8 2mm give or take is this a good method 🤔
@@ghettorevival9541 i mean no not really it seems too work for most part but ive noticed i get snagging issue's now and then so maybe hanging a lil too much 🤔
It’s hard to say if the method is good or not until the method is being demonstrated or used. If you’re getting needle snag if May not be the needle hanging but more so the stretch we have on the skin, it could be the way the needle is angled into the skin, it could be a curved surface , or the way we are positioned. It’s super hard to say. I’ve experienced snagging needles as well and I will tend to adjust my posture, position and reroute the direction I was tattooing in.
I think hanging the needle can be applied to any needle size and configuration. I feel it comes down to the goal at hand and what we are trying to accomplish and get out of our tattoos.
For me in this video I am using a 14RS. The principals of needle hang would apply to RL, RS, and for some maybe even RM. For example one person may prefer to hang their mags out a bit more over this person because of their personal approach and technical abilities. Another person may like to hang RL out further over RS. I like to find the setting that I like and find the setting per configuration that best aligns with my comfortability for that needle.
I’m not sure i understand and for that I apologize. May you explain a bit more in what you mean? I will do my best to assist you in a better direction.
When a needle cycles it is supposed to move up and down. If it is not there could be something wrong with the cartridge or the grip of the machine. It is very hard to say as every setup will vary on technical difficulties.

Daniel, great topic and explanation but I need to ask if it was an optical illusion of the needle pulsating up and down when you were tattooing the medium and long hang? Thanks! 🙏poppy
Thank you for your continued support Poppy! I think it was the camera and maybe something to do with the frames per second, I can't be too certain. When I was tattooing the machine was running at a healthy pace. haha It wasn't pulsating but it really does look like it, I think it looks awesome.
Thank you!!! I appreciate you time, feedback and support! I wouldn’t say it’s bad but i would also say it’s not good. Haha. I used to think riding the tube would help me prevent blowouts but that didn’t work so well for me. I would never recommend riding the tube because it’s a mess, and we can not see our needle tip clearly. Riding the tube makes me very uncomfortable. Haha
I have a question I’m not sure if it common but when I start tattooing or in the middle off tattooing the ink does not want to come out I’m using a Cheyenne cartridges plz help
Ahhh that’s a good one! I’ve also experienced this along my way and sometimes still have this issue. If we are experiencing the same issue it’ll be because the needle is hanging out too far. When the needle is hanging out too far it doesn’t retract enough into the tube to release more ink. The needle only goes in a certain amount and when it comes out it never touched ink with the tube so we don’t get any ink flow. Try to take your needle depth down a few notches and see if that works.
Im glad i found this video, i just barely started practicing tattooing and i didn’t know if it was wrong to leave the needle far out.

You feel it in your stretching hand when you're deep enough. It's like a vibration, when you feel the skin vibrate don't go any deeper
What do you use to clean the ink from the fake skin? it cleans up so nicely!
Could you demonstrate a video on checking your machines actual stroke? Not throw but stroke. Without looking it up online.
This seems like a cool idea. I can possibly bring a video like this here in the near future. Thank you for the recommendation, I appreciate it.

Your video helped me a lot. How can I search for and buy this ultra-thick transparent fake leather?
I know that you can adjust the grip but I worry about cross contamination
Ahhh I hear you. What sort of cross contamination issues worry you specifically when we adjust needle depth?
Does the rotary wand have a needle hang adjustment.
all tattoo machines do.

Completely normal just moisturize a couple times a day for a few weeks and don't itch it or pick at it it discolors it I learned that the hard way lol
One question, the needle deep for shading skin its the same as lining? I mean that 1mm to 2mm approx? Or shading goes deeper?

It’s because of the filming. If you’d see it live, it would stay still (no pulsating up and down), so yes it’s an illusion :)
