Stunning performance make "Since I Fell For You" definitive here...Dusty gets inside this classic making it her own...looks and sounds incredible, nobody compares to this great singer...Bravo Dusty, you are loved and missed by many and RIP great lady!
Amen! I've heard several versions of that song (including an in-person performance by the vocalist with a cover band my son-in-law played with about 20 years ago) but she took it to a new level.
One of her very best vocal performances here. A couple of times, sung so purely that the notes sounded as though it was coming through an instrument other than the voice. Especially that last note! Impossibly pure and perfect. Do wish Dusty would have recorded more standards in this style. But we're lucky to have what we've got, and that's plenty.
Ahhhh Beautiful Dusty at her soulful best. She never ceased to deliver and is sorely missed by all her fans. Todays singers don't come anywhere close to her. Iagree with Nicklas and say itwold be around 71/72 as by then she had changed her hairstyle to a more softer look and the same for the eye make up too. Rest In Peace Dusty your music lives on xxx
You Tube is such a pleasure. I just rediscovered a great singer in Ms.Springfield. I will be coming back here often to treat my ears and eyes to a splendid talent. RIP baby!
So true. A singer and a voice as beautiful as Dusty's . . . I think she may even be singing FOR the angels. And they're lovin' it. I've loved her ever since I Only Want to Be With You . . . I just Wish and Hope she could have Stayed Awhile longer. R I P, Dusty.
what a great day (Easter Sunday 2011) 1st I found Mavis Staples' verison of this wonderful song and now Dusty Springfield .what a great day thanks for posiitng it Jim
Dusty: Your voice, your style, your Beauty still haunts me to this day. No one else even comes close. You will always be in my heart. You will always be the best.
You are all so right whoever said her best work was done in England. I am assuming the Pet Shop Boys brought her back to her roots and managed to give us one of her very best recording sessions in the production of 'REPUTATION & RARITIES' All of us were happy to see her back in touch with her great singing and songs to remember her by. Thank you PSBs.
First time seeing this video and it reaffirms to me that Dusty was one of the most beautiful and talented singers to ever have graced our presense. What a beautiful version. Thanks so much posting.
Hauntingly gorgeous performance show Dusty a legendary great not appreciated as she should have been as this stunning performance shows. Dusty has a voice so fine with depth of soul taking the listener to the core of a song like nobody else and what a gorgeous face...miss you Dusty! Performance is magical & rare...
Ohhhh... she is very very beautiful here. Everything about this video melts your heart. The beautiful Dusty, the beautiful voice and the way she sings this song (usually done by black singers with very high power) but instead she caress the lyrics with gentle singing.
Claudia Ross true originals are never repeated. But there are great talents in every generation. It's too bad (and it's too sad), but we must miss out on some truly miraculous voices simply because we are now in an age where looks trump talent most of the time. Still, not all contemporary music is performed by talentless, buxom, twerking cock teases. There's Adele, for one. She's often compared to Springfield, and she's still young. Even writes her own songs. All is not lost.
Look at the BBC intro to All I Need Is You. She says quote "perhaps it is because I sing quite alot of Italian ballads." She had conquered the little country of England and went to try America. Where, by the way, many of the songs she was most attracted to were written -- Motown! You are the one who wanted her to stay in England and "belt". Logically that equals her Italian Ballads.
I totally agree, as a cosmetologist, I think her hair and especially her make-up are amazingly contemporary, She is radiant! I've only ever heard Streisand's version of this song, and to say I like it as much is saying A LOT!
I bought the original by lenny Welch back in the 60s. Had this version been available, I would have bought this. Dusty could really give the blues 'feeling'. None better!
Sorry it took so long to answer I have been away. You are correct the original was first popularized by Buddy Johnson's sister, Ella Johnson with Buddy Johnson Orchestra. Lenny Welch's version was the most poular. Thanks for the correction :) Rachel
This is what can only be called the definitive version, not that other singers can't do a good job with it, but it would be impossible to top this. One thing lacking with todays singers is lack of warmth & soul, but that's something Dusty had naturally. You can't teach someone to sing like this, they either have it or they don't. Even more all the amazing when you consider she was a lifelong cigarette smoker!
I agree. But I think Dusty topped this performance with another live performance she did in late 70's. Look for that one if you haven't heard it already. More bluesy backing band she can be seen directing it waving her arm around!
I love Lenny's version, and to a certain extent I admire Barbra's melt the recording studio show-off pyrotechnics, but Barbra is not good at conveying subtlety, which this lyric calls for. Neither of them can come close to Dusty's interpretation. Dusty sings it like she means it.
You know, I never really appreciated Dusty when she was around. I was too young and thought that she was just a pop singer. You just have to love this lady. Such a smoke drenched voice that soothes the soul.
I've listened to alot of music in my time, but I've never heard a voice so deft, so natural in delivery. I am a melted puddle on the floor; if Dusty had been aboard the Titanic, the iceberg would have lost... ♫ Barbra is just not capable of the subtlety the lyric requires...
You have an incredible ear. Such a funny comment about the iceberg. This is one of Dusty best vocals. Can't believe she never recorded this song on an LP. But she did it live 3 times and each version is incredible. Look for the white dress You Tube version. It is more bluesy. All three live versions are wonderful and each different.
Thank you, Louise. You're very kind. (Sorry, I haven't replied sooner, but I *just* *now* got a notification from TH-cam that you'd commented, 3 weeks later?) %^#@!+?% I will definitely look for the other versions. Thanks for the Dusty ♫ references!
You're very welcome. You Tube can be strange at times. Another one of my favorites of Dusty's is LOOK OF LOVE live. Thinks she sings part of it falsetto but the transfer back to full voice is so seamless it makes you wonder what her technique is. That will also turn you into a puddle!
Oh yes, Louise. I went and listened, and am familiar with the "bluesy" version, although I'm not terribly fond of it....what do you think she meant at the close? She's gesticulating madly at either the director or the cameraman, waving her hands, and I can't figure out if she is happy, or not? Can you?
Hey Mike, God I love all three live versions she did of this song and I can't really figure out which one is the best. Check out the 1966 audio only version. It's jazzy. Well, I think Dusty adored having orchestras backing her. In that bluesy version at the end, I think she's actually trying to direct the band with her hand gestures at the end to time the ending right as she is holding a note there and wants them to end when she ends. Not sure the band is paying her any mind, but the conductor may have been taking cues off her. Who knows. In her Berlin show, she directs the band in the same fashion. It's a three song mini concert. She's in a green dress. Look for that. So great.
She looked and sounded like an angel. RIP Dusty. Stunning performance.
Absolutely the best version of this classic song ever. Nobody can compare to the late, legendary, queen Dusty.
MY goodness, she was terrific. she could sing the phone book.
Extraño a Dusty…es lo mejor del mundo entero y sigue siéndolo
I'm just getting to know Dusty.
God! Was she frigging amazing!
I had the pleasure of meeting Dusty Springfield, thank you!
She could gargle a song and it would still sound terrific. What a soulful voice. Dusty, thanks for being.
Expertly done. Not oversung , no screeching , many of today's singers could learn from her.
This is one of my favorites. Talk about a flawless vocal she lays down here. Always takes my breath away. Wow.
the incomparable Dusty, there's no body to touch her, so proud to be a child of the 60's R.I.P Dusty, you are a legend
STREISAND !!!
STREISAND
Nah,Forget it
Stunning performance make "Since I Fell For You" definitive here...Dusty gets inside this classic making it her own...looks and sounds incredible, nobody compares to this great singer...Bravo Dusty, you are loved and missed by many and RIP great lady!
Amen! I've heard several versions of that song (including an in-person performance by the vocalist with a cover band my son-in-law played with about 20 years ago) but she took it to a new level.
An incredible (and accurate) voice! Dusty was truly amazing.

Pure Dusty. Dusty has entertained me from 1963 till her passing. Great singer...Thanks for the memories Dusty. RIP.... Peace.

Dusty puts her heart into this song, beautifully done.....Dusty was a wonderful enterainer, loved her work.
Gorgeous to watch & listen to Dusty taking a classic and making it her own...nobody could match this vocal wonder!
Beautiful woman, beautiful singer. Listen to these words Claire.
This is what Dusty could with a song...get to the emotional heart of a song and communicate its meaning with great and rare depth of feeling.
I totally agree Vic, she is beautiful and a voice to match
Gorgeous, heavenly voice.
divine Dusty!
The greatest as far as I'm concerned.
Been a fan of hers since i first heard her. Thanks for posting. Allows her music to be heard.
What a beautiful classy Dusty Springfield. RIP princess.
The female vocalists vocalist....just simply The Best.
A gorgeous version..
oh what a voice and what a loss we all share with her passing
Dusty excellent . ...Love this song.
Holy uckfay! Damn girl! Today's female singers should take a page out of her book. None of them can touch her.
Perfect song, perfectly executed by the best in the business....
She was a GREAT torch singer
OUTSTANDING
Great song.Songs of that caliber are a thing of the past.
Ohhhh... she is very very beautiful here. Everything about this video melts your heart. The beautiful Dusty, the beautiful voice and the way she sings this song (usually done by black singers with very high power) but instead she caress the lyrics with gentle singing.
Now, let's bring talent like this into the current generation!
I'm afraid that train has left the station, but there is always hope........
Call this talent?? No warbling left, right and centre? No tits? No twerking? No coquettish glances? She only sings.

@Nicklas4500
This performance was from the "Tom Jones Show" which aired 28/12/72.
I had the precursor, of meetings her, she was wonderful!
lenny welch sung this song beautifully........but this lady makes every song somehow better....we love you dusty
The best.
I first Saw Dusty in 1966 at a mens gay club in Topanga Calif. She was a winner then and I'm sure she be singing with the Angels.
Dusty = class
Love this!!!!
I totally agree, as a cosmetologist, I think her hair and especially her make-up are amazingly contemporary, She is radiant! I've only ever heard Streisand's version of this song, and to say I like it as much is saying A LOT!
Just splendid the fab Dusty to show 'em all how it's done....!:0)
I love this dusty Springfield
wow-what a priviledge to watch and listen.
Dusty - a goddess from her first sweet note to the last.
Im in Love with Dusty x
My blue eyed lady of soul.
I bought the original by lenny Welch back in the 60s. Had this version been available, I would have bought this. Dusty could really give the blues 'feeling'.

I love this song by Dusty Springfield
Just love her...Monday
She passed in March 1999. And I'm still missing her.

I read someplace that she didn't start smoking until age 40. May have thought her singing career was over by that age. Of course, it wasn't.
Dusty, you naver sang a bad note but you sang many great one.
Top of the top Dusty.
Wonderful
