Back around year 1991 or 92, I sold 9 perfect cherry picked copies of Amazing Spider-Man 300 for 12 dollars each to a local comic book dealer. In year 1989, I sold 7 near mint plus unread copies of X-Men 56 for 30 dollars each to a local veterinarian that collected comic books. Back in year 2007, I sold about 20 perfect cherry picked copies of Uncanny X-Men 141 for 10 dollars each to another comic book dealer. What was I thinking.....

I regret buying so many hologram/foil/diecut/chrome variants in the 90's instead of buying more silver stuff. Passed on so many things that were 40-50 bucks that are practically out of reach now

I feel sick every time I think about this. Back in the early '80s a friend of a friend came to my house. He had to sell his comics to cover an operation he needed and knew I collected comics. I was only a couple of years married, had 2 young uns, had just bought a house and was only making 21k/yr., so I had to pass up on...an AF 15 and get this - not one, but TWO Action #1s....for under $1000 for ALL THREE!!! Ouch, ouch, ouch, ouch........

I live in a suburb of Kansas City, Missouri. Back around 1982 my mother took me to Clint's Comics on Main Street in Kansas City. The clerk behind the counter showed me 3 copies of Amazing Spider-Man #1 in high grade condition that the store had for sale for 75 dollars each. Unfortunately, my mother couldn't afford to buy me a copy. I will never forget that day.

I was going to do it last year over my vacation but Rona` hit so.. caboshed that one. Is anything still good enough over there to warrant a cross-state trip?

Whenever I'm 50/50 on whether or not to buy something that's on my hit list, I always shift to 51% and buy it. Even if I lose money later, it's always felt like the right decision.

Sellers remorse - my mom was friends with a huge comic collector in the late 70s. This guy was a huge influence and inspired me to start collecting those funny books in the mid 80s. We moved around to several cities as well as a couple states when I was a kid. Eventually moving back home to California, my mom relocated her comic collecting friend and by this time (1987) he owned a comic shop in San Dimas. He sold me a beautiful copy of Hulk #181 for $20. Fast forward to 1989 and my mom being a single parent had hit a rough patch financially and asked of I could help her out by selling some of my books. I sold a few key books along with my copy of Hulk #181 to a comic shop owner for $50. He gave me the spiel that he needed to make a profit off of it as well and gave me about half of the value. Knowing I needed to help my mom and put food on the table I sold 181 with the intentions of buying another copy in the future. Hulk 181 as well as GSX #1 were quite common in the 80s and affordable. With the comic crash in the early 90s, I jumped ship and left the hobby for over 20 years. When I got back into the hobby, I was unable to afford another Hulk 181. I wish I had a DeLorean time machine. I'd go back in time and stop my younger self from selling that 181.

A few years ago there was a CGC Green Lantern #87( first John Stewart) double cover!!! For sale around $780. Don’t remember the grade but I remember it was around a 7.5 to 8.0. I didn’t pull the trigger but I still think about it to this day. Sometimes I think I’m crazy and that i saw wrong but I know what I saw! 😂

Duuude, in 2018 I could’ve bought a hulk 181 in a 9.4 for $1750 but passed, Dec 2019 had an opportunity to buy a hulk 181 8.5@ $4200, passed cause I thought price might track back a bit. No more! If I see it and have the cash and it has likely staying power I just BUY IT! As a result I got 2 NYX3s in 9.8 for $1100 each in January and now they’re over $2k I got 2 secret wars 8s in 9.8 back in the day for $250/$275 now at $700-$900, ain’t never-“DONT PASS IF YOU HAVE THE CASH”

  • @glennloucks1

I’ve never had a FOMO, I’ve only ever bought what interested me, and what I wanted to read. Then it gets bagged and boarded.
With that mindset I don’t regret passing on WD#1, or some of the others discussed here.
But, I never forgot that time as a kid, we were moving and my mom tossed my collection as ‘not worth taking with us’. As an adult many years later, I bought the one gem I clearly remembered getting tossed: ASM 121. There may have been other gems contemporary with ASM 121 that also got tossed that I don’t remember, but back in the day for a major character to die, that was a memorable book. Glad I replaced it and probably with a better copy than the one I had as a kid😊

Great show!! My regret story goes all the way back to 1984! VF Amazing Fantasy #15 at the very first KC Comicon! $1100! I had a few hundred bucks budget for the show and my mom was willing to lend me the rest and my 11 year old self thought “I’ll only get one comic book and be done then have to pay back my mom”. I’d go back in time and smack myself! 😂

I was at my LCS looking through back issue maybe 11 years ago. A guy walked in, went straight to the counter. He asked how much could he get for this comic that was in a folder. They offered $1k, the guy took it and left. I went to check out and they ask if I wanted to buy this book in the folder for the same price. It was a beat-up AF15. Maybe .5-1.0. I was like I’m good, it’s too beat up haha. I will NEVER forget that. Yeah the money part sucks, but probably will never be able to own that book at this point 🥺

That has been the main reasons I sold a number of, now out of hand valuable keys. Let's see:
      ASM 361 1st Carnage
      NYX 3 1st X-23
Spawn 1 Black and White Retailer Incentive variant
Ultimate Fallout 4 First Miles Morales

I first collected comics in 1973-74 time frame when I was 11-12 and over the next few years built up quite a collection including a ToS 39 and a AF15. I had long runs of many of the marvel key titles too. When I hit 17 I wanted a car and sold the entire collection for a few hundred dollars. I got my car, but I kick myself for selling that first collection now.

I bought a 3rd Print TMNT #1 for around $20 because first print was around $200 at the time . Oops. Then again the black and white comic phase was hot and then crashed. Trollords and Elflord were also hot at the time. Also have like 10 copies of each Deathmate and Turok 1. Comic book publishers should be forced to tell you print run quantities.

It’s 2015 I was a student and broke, I wanted to buy NYX 3 but didn’t want to drop £80/$100 on a CGC 9.8. Yep, totally regret not pulling that trigger! 😢😢

    • @kbruns33
      @kbruns33 3 ปีที่แล้ว

Adding to my comment, what really made me realize I messed up (as I wasn't following TWD even after the fact) was when a co-worker of mine's son was cast in a speaking part in a major plot point/flashback episode as both a human an one of the sole walkers in the episode. (and brutally slaughtered too) Then I started paying attention and realized just how big the show and books had gotten. On a side note, nothing elevates your appreciation of Hollywood makeup & practical FX professionals than when you see them transform someone you know into a walker. :)

I've been trying really hard to score an ASM #1. Probably participated in more than seven auctions and it was always I was underbidding or it just shoots up way pass the budget. Eventually got tired and settled for a coverless copy that was floating around under the radar but always annoyed at the feeling that CGC doesn't give 0.5 grades anymore. This was gonna be a NG (no grade). Two weeks later found another decent copy that's complete and finally won it. So now I have two. I am thinking of gifting the coverless one to my dad, but right now it feels like a lot of wasted money and jumping the gun too early.

I collected X-men back in the day and bought doubles of EVERYTHING! I had at one point, 4 copies of uncanny X-men 266. 2 were never even opened. They are somewhere in the crawlspaces of my parents house. But unfortunately, some idiot plastered over the doors and they won't let me cut a hole in the wall. I havea long box full of things like ASM 300, venom #1, tons of X-men, Superman and Batman. All 80s and 90s, all new stand not one of them has ever even had the cover open 😔. The main point of my story is about 10 years ago. I was cleaning out the box I have and I had two copies of uncanny X-Men 266 that I gave to my cousin who is obsessed with gambit.

In middle school I got a lot of money for my bday and so I was at the mall with my dad where we saw a guy set up with a bunch of comics. One of these was an Avengers #8 and that was a book I had wanted for a bit now. It was graded at a cgc 8.0 and he was selling it for around 500, I was excited cause I had enough.
