What a powerful video!! Very appropriate since it’s valentines ❤ never listened to such a short Ted talk before but this one is top ten best I’ve ever come across in terms of value given 🙏🏾
❤Be the person who breaks the cycle. If you were judged, choose understanding. If you were rejected, choose acceptance. If you were shamed, choose compassion. Be the person you needed when you were hurting, not the person who hurt you. Vow to be better than what broke you-to heal instead of becoming bitter so you can act from your heart, not your pain.
I think for every person the word “love” has different meanings. For someone it might be dedicating time to the partner, for someone else it might be protecting the partner. However, in our society there are always some norms that people use to listen, so in otherwise case people think that in their relationship something is wrong if they do not follow the norms. Thus the thought of “happily ever after” appears I guess.
I didn't understand the difference between the love she describes and the love that is "sold" as ideal. Everything she described is exactly what is sold. What exactly is she proposing?

No hate to those that are in love and in a relationship. But I guess we must first put emphasis on finding love and worth in yourself first before trying to find it in another person. The other way around make us seek for an ideal, rose-colored thing that's not necessarily always butterflies and sparks in reality. This is the reason why nowadays some leave their relationship when it's no longer ideal, without exhausting all means to fix it. Then on the hunt again for the next fantasy.

The result is constant, you can't change it. You are the manipulation on how to react the result, "happy ever after" is a definition for something going on someone's expectation. If you not gonna change to get what is not on your current life, your life will be in an undesignated destination.
It's still a wish list that says: what do I get out of it. That's why most relationships end in divorce: two egocentric people trying to live together. That doesn't work well.
this and there IS happily ever after bit its just different than on tv and instagram. there is peace, not whirlwinds. there is gratitude, not ambition. there is the marathon, not the sprint. ❤
What's on TV can be a happily ever after in real life as well, but fairytales are fairytales. Don't count on them happening to everyone but they do happen very rarely. Not everyone can have these lives or endings. A myth they are not
Ted talks have fallen off. Was good in the beginning now its just a clown show. Pure drivel. My Grandparents are proof of happily ever after. Life is not perfect. But real lasting love exists. No coincidence that divorce rates have skyrocketed people cant tell the difference between lust, love and real love. By the way women initiate the most divorces. True love does exist. If you dont believe you have lost your way and soul. Destined for lonliness and goong thu the motions.
I feel bad for people who think happily ever after can't be achieved. It's all in your mindset. Why do we have these speakers lately who continue to try to devalue, life's values? Too much negativity
Replace "happily ever after" with "and they were happy all the time forever and did not experience any type of impediments that threatened their unity" The point of her speech is that if we realize love is more complex than what we have been shown in the movies, the love we give and receive will begin to be more authentic throughout the world.
@@saivonhoward795that is debatable. Like I said it's all about the mindset. I'm not Changing my words to suit you or anyone else. But it is cute how you would think because someone is capable of living happily ever after means they've never experienced hardships. No honey, we all have experienced hard ships but, we know how to handle them and go on with life without living in the past.
So I just want to say interesting but no there is something called happily ever after. Some go to the grave never seeing it. There are people that have the good fortune to experience it spontaneously but there are those that if you want it have to fight for it
Can you please define what that means? Does it mean having a perfect relationship with no conflict and you are happy every day? Or does it mean being happy most of the time and overcoming hardships together with your partner? If it means the former, that's idealism. If you mean the latter, then that makes sense. I think expecting an idealistic relationship will actually makes us miserable in the long run
Yeah, I got that impression too. I didn't see she adding many new ideias in way. Basically "love is all around" or something. I didn't quite get the big difference about romantic love and what she is describing.
“I can respect any person who can put their ego aside and say; i made a mistake, I apologize and i am correcting the behavior.”

and your analogy also fits on parenting

Outstanding job!! Great video 👍🏾
It's not that you're being lied to about romance. It's much worse than that. It's that you want to be lied to.

No. There's much learning and wisdom needed to be in a healthy relationship.
All you need is love 💞✨
Not true.
Lock up platitudes. This video should be there.
Love comes from within ❤
There's no such thing as 'Happily Ever After' in real life. You realize immediately that not all endings are supposed to be happy.

Endings from 'happy' are not very good. Not at all.
But the previous 60+ years might have been the days when everything ended up lovely.
Someone's getting a ring on Valentine's Day…
Hopefully not any girls forced to say "I DO".
Speak out to end child marriage and help girls say ‘IDONT!’
“ChatGPT, write me a three-minute motivational TED Talk on the myth of ‘happily ever after.’”

But if your status is determined to be High by the one whom you determine to be of High status.
You are the complex, just the two of you.

It can happen. It just doesn't happen the way it's portrayed to us in this culture.
It’s not negativity, it’s overthinking. Life is simple, let’s not complicate it .
@@saivonhoward795its kinda immature to think love is like in movies. This speaker talks to grown people, and not to a bunch of teenagers.
Grown man crying over here.
My happiness is found in Christ; that's the only true love and happiness found on this side of eternity! She full of crock!
Too short, lacking in meaning, and with appeal to too-many warm & fuzzy-sounding words.

Fairy tales always end with “ and they lived happily ever after”….and that’s why it’s called a fairy tale lol. Who knew?!?!?
You think of fairytales whilst the grown-ups actually pay attention.
"FAIRYTALE INDUSTRIAL COMPLEX"

valentimes ruined my life my parents sexually abused me during valentimes day and sent me to school to learn i hate valtimes
Is it just me or does this talk basically say "you dont have to be perfect to be loved."
