He loved the Sans' fight, but not enough to want to replay the game.
Mostly every time you feel confused or disappointed, it's because it's shown or resolved in another route! The game actually changes a lot between the major runs
no its actually because he, for some reason, never thought to take characters up on offers to hang out after the fight. never went back to date papyrus, never went back to hang out at undynes house, etc. he treated it like a liner, one way street, and didnt actually pay attention to surroundings or dialogue that suggested not mindlessly running straight ahead and taking a detour for a bit.
50:14 its actually a decently easy fight, but they do a really good job at tricking people into thinking it's hard. The less hp you have, the less damage you take. Its pretty clever, because it makes you feel like youre hanging on by a thread the entire fight and you won by sheer luck
Each step (call for help) is also saved, so there is a barely any consequence for losing the fight! It's interesting how the entire game is subtly designed to give beginners a chance. There are tricks for many attack patterns (ex: 23:55, don't move and the dog won't bark). Toriel stops attacking you if you're low health, The stick skips all dog fights, Papyrus gives up you keep losing, then you have access to the Temmie armor which removes the difficulty for the rest of the game :D
Also I dunno if this is true since I haven’t payed attention but apparently the souls heal you more based on how low your HP is. The lower it is, the more they heal
You also can't die in the soul segments, so no need to no-hit the bravery, integrity and justice soul segments (for integrity just go to the far left, act, and then eat up the greens), kindness is pretty easy to heal too
36:50 You can see that Alphys is actively trying to give you the answers to the quiz, just mentioning for future play throughs in case you didn’t notice.
@@ThroarbinGamingYou learn a LOT by stopping to read text and talk to people in this game, pretty often they tip you off to puzzles, secrets, or battle mechanics on top of the exposition

(That made me laugh a bit when you said there weren't any instructions)
The game sets up alot of stuff where you can back track if you want to, like Papyrus saying you can date later is actually an option if you go into his house after the battle

@@ThroarbinGaming If you lie to him by saying you are not wearing one, he will lie to Undyne saying that you are. If you tell the truth to Papyrus and say that you are, he'll tell Undyne that you are wearing a bandanna and assume that you were smart enough to lie on the question.
@@MsQueenOfDance There's also the "telling him one way or the other and then changing" choices, which also have unique dialogue that still ends in him ratting you out.

I'm glad you enjoyed the Neutral Route! -Wow, I've never seen someone dodge Flowey's opening cutscene on their first playthrough! You are way more cautious than most! -Toriel, (Goat Mom), is incredibly Hand-Hold-ey because she is a pun on the common trope of a Tutorial character, or Tu-Toriel. -You definitely aren't the first person to distrust Toriel after meeting flowey -Sans and Papyrus are named after the fonts they speak in! -The telescope that sans lets you look into is an ago-old prank of putting dye or paint around the lens, if you didn't get it. -Special Enemy Temmie is a unique encounter because there is a secret room nearby that leads you to Temmie Village, if you want to try and find it... -If you feel like Undyne is a loose end, you might want to visit her or Papyrus after the fight. They both have unique "Hang Out" scenes that you will definitely laugh at. And these events are required to finish a Pacifist route, if that helps. -Alphys seems to have her own issues with self-confidence that doesn't quite show until you learn more about her "scheme" to convince you to stay in the underground. When she fails, we don't hear from her again, and she stops posting on social media. There might be a bit more to her character that you can find in a Pacifist route... -The image of Papyrus wearing Biceps with sunglasses can actually be found as a Steam Trading card for the game! -Did you try talking to Sans in his waterfall station or outside of MTT Hotel? He looked like he had something to say... -You suspected that you can't die during the Flowey fight, but that's actually not true! You can die tons of times during the flowey fight, but he pulls some strings to make it seem worse than it really is. For starters, your health bar displays your HP as lower than it actually is. Bullet Patterns are larger than their hitboxes. And also, you can't actually die during transition phases, but you can still loose HP down to 1. Congrats on winning in 1 attempt! FINALLY: -The Neutral, Pacifist, and Genocide runs are designed with the hope that the player finds/plays them in that order. You can obviously play them in any order you want, but many jokes or impactful moments might go over your head without (or with) prior context. Just a fair warning. You'll love both routes for sure, and I want to see both of them from you!
Anytime there was a point where you felt confused, or that there was a loose end, the game actually explains or ties it up. There are a lot of things in the game that can be discovered through exploration and interacting with NPCs and stuff. The True Pacifist run is what I'd recommend to hit that narrative satisfaction.
I think you can decide for yourself if you want to do a pacifist or genocide run. However, a pacifist run is required to understand the full story and complete lose ends. a genocide run is fully optional. Also a tip for the genocide run, You have to kill everything in every area before continuing, if you leave an area with some random monster still alive, the game will prevent you from commiting full genocide.
@ThroarbinGaming Trying to avoid spoilers but also trying to help you, I'll say this for the genocide route: Do NOT go past toriel untill "nobody came". only go past her once you figured out what that means, then it will be clear for all areas what you gotta do
I REALLY suggest doing the pacifist run before the genocide run, because: 1. You're currently missing huge, extremely crucial narrative details from the pacifist run. Without those, a lot of what happens in Genocide won't make sense. 2. Genocide is a SLOG. It's designed to emulate those classic mind-numbing RPG grinds, so you can't just kill every monster you meet, you have to keep running around every area until the random encounters stop. It's a whole meta-textual thing.
On Neutral you do NOT see her again. If you go to her house she is not there. So MaYBe RePEAt YoUr WhOlE PosTR lIkE ThIs To MAkeE It CoNsIStEnTlY WrOng.
@@skx5110if you do the date then papyrus allows you to meet undyne at her house so if you don’t even try to interact with him again then he doesn’t invite you I believe but even the cooking lesson with undyne is optional
A lot of your confusion over certain plot points (Undyne's disappearance, Alphys's unexplained motivations) are addressed in a pacifist run, which is half the reason the game does its best to encourage you in that direction, so yes! I'd love to see a follow-up! I can't stress enough though that you should try that playstyle BEFORE succumbing to the urge to grind to maximum level in the starting area. It'll make a difference.
its really funny to hear you say there were no controls listed, when the opening screen before you name the character quite literally has the controls on it lmao
@ThroarbinGaming haha I was laughing because I did the exact same thing and then the next few playthroughs until I realized you could interact with the signs
The Photoshop Flowey battle isn't that hard, but it does throw so much stuff at you that if you aren't prepared for it, you're likely to be panicking. That's where it's difficulty lies. Most people lose the first time, but after a couple of attempts you notice it's not as hard as it seems.
im not trying telling you what you should do with the reset, but i promise you if you want the most engaging and emotional experience then do pacifist and then genocide. trust me the best moments in undertale will hit a lot harder. and if you just want blood and commit genocide then it'll be a lot more rewarding to do so after pacifist
@@ThroarbinGaming yep that is how the narrative is set up. Pacifist is pushed in first playthrough so you will do pacifist in your second playthrough. Than you learn about genocide from others and play that if you want to.
@@ThroarbinGaming I won't get into any spoilers btw, but there are three things about geno that might mess up your experience going forward, but overall they are pretty minor. The biggest thing is that geno is extremely grind heavy (it can be a bit of a chore), and a large commitment. So if you are more so in it for a developer intended experience I recommend pacifist first, but, if you don't mind, it's really not all that big of a deal. Explore this game however you see fit. Careful of actual spoilers, this game is notorious for being ruined for people.
50:10 It's not rigged, but it's pretty close to being so after you get the first Soul intermission. You can't die during these intermissions, they heal you after them, and become more frequent after the first. Most people die once or twice before getting to the intermissions then breeze through it once they start.
Throarbin reminds me of myself. Completely oblivious of video game pop culture and realising it’s easier to take part when you actually play the games everyone references
I'm glad you had a good time! I adore undertale and let me tell you - only playing the neutral run is like only playing 1/3 of a game and the other two thirds are also absolutely amazing.
I'd absolutely love to see you play the genocide and/or pacifist run!! They're both so different from one another, it's insane and definitly worth more videos
What are you, 7? Genocide is still a route in the game (in my opinion the more interesting one) and you shouldn’t only play 2/3 of the game because: “I dont wanna kill stuff”
@@LeoValdez1340buddy the genocide run being unpleasant is *literally* the point of the game lmao Not wanting to do it is the expected outcome here. It is thematically interesting and the fights are great, but you can't rag on people for not wanting to do it
@@LeoValdez1340what's funny about that is the fact that most of the fandom nowadays think that people that are obsessed with the no mercy route are probably 7 themselves
This was so fun! It’s really rare to see a true neutral run. I also recommend pacifist first- I’ll be honest and say a lot of the same ground is retread, but you get a fuller story that way, and the “masochist” run expects you to have played pacifist at least once. Even the retread ground should be interesting and at least slightly different on another go-around! Anyway this was so much fun, your reactions were good and I’m excited to have found the channel! I hope you delve into other routes and Deltarune eventually, I think you’d have a great time and a lot of the questions and “loose ends” you see would be addressed!
30:25 whats funny is if you actually tell him the truth and keep the same clothes on, papyrus will instead relay exactly what you said to undyne and say that he expected you to change your clothes so as to not get caught
And if you tell him the truth, but then change your clothes before you encounter Undyne, he will say he made something up to Undyne, not knowing that it just so happened to be _exactly_ what you changed into.
IMO the best thing is to tell him the truth and not change your clothes, since in that case he doesn't end up lying to Undyne so he doesn't feel bad about lying to his friend.
A note for the Flowey fight In the "soul phases" (the intermission bits) you can't die regardless of how much damage you take The flowey fight is known for being easy "if you know what you're doing", you probably just picked up on that quite fast. I'd recommend re-playing it and doing some of what you missed, both runs (although pacifist definitely has more) have interesting things to see.
The agony of you not going back despite the game prompting you to multiple times. "We never see her again so this whole scene is weird" Papyrus just called you to invite you to hang out together. Especially going into the Asgore fight with no healing items even when he explicitly gives you a chance to go back for them. Oof.
get all 3 endings man, its so worth it, it really is, your an amazing content creator to have found and i cant speak for everyone else here but i know that i will be sticking around if you do
I'm so used to seeing everyone make variations of Papyrus with Skeletor's voice, so seeing your take which sounded more like the English voice of Brook was really refreshing.
It's really interesting watching someone go to basically the same experience I did all those years ago. Wouldn't mind watching you come back to this and explore Undertale more.
It's so funny how you either instantly see alph helping you with the questions or you never realize, not even in post while editing lmao. There is a whole story that you cant see in the normal route, a lot of the story is shown to you both in the pacifist and the genocide(masochist) I would say to do the pacifist first but you do you, both are amazing
There was also the Ruins colored switch puzzles “I don’t see where there’s any indication on where to press the switches so it was just blind guesses” And I’m just looking at the plaques on the walls
as someone who's first video game obsession was undertale, i THANK you for playing! it genuinely impacted me more than i'd ever thought- the music and story telling in this game is something i want everyone to experience !! i'm so happy you liked it, i loved seeing your reactions, they made me feel that same joy back in 2015!!
It's so nice to see someone new arriving and starting this journey. It's refreshing, really! I hope you enjoy UNDERTALE as much as we did. (also, lesser dog is the absolute good boy)
It's weird to me, somehow in hindsight it's obvious to me that the game REALLY does its best to try to point out that it wants you to do the pacifist route, yet most people I've silently observed gravitate towards the genocide route instead. I wonder if people just lack immersion and don't care what the characters say, maybe I'm just part of a group of people who care an unhealthy amount for pixels on a screen.
3:12 No, these issues aren't down to when the game was made; they're due to the fact that Toby Fox isn't a professional game developer, and either didn't think of those things or didn't know how to implement them. I mean, no offence to Toby, he made a great game, but these were solved problems back in _1995,_ while Undertale came out in _2015._
This was a very entertaining run, it was a good amount of edited and you had some different thoughts than many others, and for the last question you asked i really recommend playing the Pacifist route :D
"Does anyone know how to lower the volume" yes... there is a volume slider built directly into the computer. Usually comes with a set of buttons an the top of the keyboard...
You can see Undyne again after the chase. Just like Papyrus mentioned there is the ability to visit both Papyrus' house with him and Undyne's. In a true pacifist playthrough there's even a whole story arc with Undyne and Alphys.
Always a treat t see frst time mostly unspoiled UT playthroughs! Would definitely recommend checking out the pacifist and the murder routes, in whatever order you feel like. People might recommend a particular one first but do what you like.
There's a whole lot of things you missed out on, but then again, I guess that's to be expected. You have the option to back and hang out with the main characters you spare that kind of wraps up each of their stories. And there's just so much you can learn about everything if you just look for it, for example your confusion with Mettaton, all of that is explained if you just look for it. I absolutely recommend playing more, the many nuetral endings give so much extra interesting dialog, and the full pacifist playthrough is an amazing experience. The kill everything playthrough is best saved for last, it does an amazing job at what it tries to do, but it can be difficult to do it if you dont know how it works, grinding for EXP is required for that playthrough. And before you say something about bad game design, the murder route is designed to not be fun, that's the point, the game doesn’t want you to do it and continuing that path is a constant choice you have to make.
I loved the video!! i would love to see both runs! there's still a lot you haven't seen, specifically what you said about undyne having a loose end, goes further into detail in the pacifist run, and the genocide run is incredible, though beware that it is a bit grindy, still, that run has some of the best boss battles this game has to offer. super excited to see what you'll do!
It’s so nice to see people experiencing this game for the first time, even after all these years. I STRONGLY recommend a pacifist run. There’s some optional content you missed out on, and the pacifist run also gives you some closure for Alphys’ story. I also recommend saving genocide for last since it’s a massive difficulty spike. All in all, this was very fun to watch. I first played Undertale when I was quite young and it genuinely changed me as a person. It’s a game that means the world to me, and I’m glad to see others enjoying it.
As it happens quite a few loose ends do get tied up in a few optional events (Like how papyrus kept mentioning how you still haven't come over to him for that date for example) man if only there was some secondary playthrough you could do to see these events... oh well, guess we'll never see them
It is absolutely awesome seeing your perspectives about the story and the gameplay throughout this playthrough. You played the game in a way I don't see a lot of people play, and also in a way that I think a lot of people WOULD if they weren't spoiled or pressured by the larger community and/or content (including things like official trailers). There's a lot that you didn't get to experience that I did when I played, and there were things that I got to see for the first time by seeing you play. I love that about Undertale, and I'm glad that spirit can carry through for folks playing for the first time. Also I think it would be interesting to see you play the masochist route. I think the route offers some unique and intense perspectives that are interesting to experience and analyze from an emotionally conscious lens.
No matter what you do, Papyrus will always accidentally reveal what you're wearing to Undyne. Even if you happen to change your armor after lying or telling the truth, you can't escape his goof
im pretty certain the "intended" or expected order for the routes is: neutral run (player is figuring out the game, probably spares/kills a few monsters along the way. Toriel especially has a special mechanic where she is easily killed on accident by the player) pacifist (player is prompted to do so and gets to know the characters very personally) genocide (player has exhausted everything else and desperately wants more content.... just like a certain in game character). They all progressively add to the game's narrative which i think is so cool. A pacifist run would definitely help answer some of ur questions or resolve things like undyne feeling random and one-off
I love blind playthroughs of undertale, seeing people react diferently to every little thing and joke about the game is great, the only thing I could say is that talking to the npcs and interacting with the inverement gives wonderful lines and context for the world, and of course we would love to see a Genocide/No mercy run of undertale! Just be sure to play again to get the REAL ending :)
I just love seeing peoples different playthroughs on Undertale. I think you'll enjoy both routes because it'll give you more information on all the characters. ;) Good luck and have fun with it!
The alphys thing is mostly just to show that basically nobody in undertale is perfect, its just the fact that because of her issues alphys tries to make you want to like her by framing everything so she seems like a confident hero, her story is MUCH more elaborated on in true pacifist
By the way if you decide to DO the true pacifist run, you do have to go back to previous areas, and do stuff with previous characters like hang out with papyrus and undyne
This game changed my life. Mostly my music composition skills (I have used FL Studio to recreate Megalovania 30+ times) It's also so weird how this guy continually plays extremely popular games with almost 100% blind playthrough. As though bro's been living under a rock for years lol
noticed mid video you said no undyne after her fight feels like a loose end... justa tip if you ever play again! this game's map isn't totally one linear path. you can go back and visit papyrus and undyne.!
Yeeeeep. I find it ironic though because being a masochist means someone enjoys bringing pain to themselves, not necessarily to others-which is basically what the genocide run is. 😅
at 17:03 and i had to stop because MAN. I watched so many playthroughs of this game when i was first obsessed.
You also can't die in the soul segments, so no need to no-hit the bravery, integrity and justice soul segments (for integrity just go to the far left, act, and then eat up the greens), kindness is pretty easy to heal too
It is pretty cool how when you do die in that fight the game gets closed

I'm glad you enjoyed the Neutral Route!
-Wow, I've never seen someone dodge Flowey's opening cutscene on their first playthrough! You are way more cautious than most!
-Toriel, (Goat Mom), is incredibly Hand-Hold-ey because she is a pun on the common trope of a Tutorial character, or Tu-Toriel.
-You definitely aren't the first person to distrust Toriel after meeting flowey
-Sans and Papyrus are named after the fonts they speak in!
FINALLY:
-The Neutral, Pacifist, and Genocide runs are designed with the hope that the player finds/plays them in that order. You can obviously play them in any order you want, but many jokes or impactful moments might go over your head without (or with) prior context. Just a fair warning. You'll love both routes for sure, and I want to see both of them from you!
"You'll love both routes for sure" ...Oh, no! 😂
This was an amazing explanation that held back from any spoilers. Great job dude.
ain't the first playthrough always neutral ?
@@doreettorac9382 not always. You can do a completely pacifist or a completely genocide play through on your first run.
@@nezukoweeb1328well, you have to do a neutral before pacifist even if you don't kill anyone. Just because of the Alphys encounter you need.
Also a tip for the genocide run, You have to kill everything in every area before continuing, if you leave an area with some random monster still alive, the game will prevent you from commiting full genocide.
oh really? good to know
@@ThroarbinGamingplease please please do pacifist first
@RadioactiveBluePlatypus please let him decide what he wants and not beg him for a certain path
@ThroarbinGaming Trying to avoid spoilers but also trying to help you, I'll say this for the genocide route: Do NOT go past toriel untill "nobody came". only go past her once you figured out what that means, then it will be clear for all areas what you gotta do
You need to do both pacifist and genocide.
Each gives you half of the story, so if you skip genocide your story won't be complete.
2:10
Truly Undertale's most infamous route:
"The Masochist Route"
I REALLY suggest doing the pacifist run before the genocide run, because:
Way to spoil the game
Also, to spoil as little as possible, pacifist will be less rewarding if you do genocide first.
They literally spoiled essentially nothing???
Seconding this. Pacifist first Genocide second is 1000% the way to go story wise.
Even the creator mentioned it’s supposed to be neutral, pacifist then genocide.

The Photoshop Flowey battle isn't that hard, but it does throw so much stuff at you that if you aren't prepared for it, you're likely to be panicking. That's where it's difficulty lies. Most people lose the first time, but after a couple of attempts you notice it's not as hard as it seems.

(dont tell him if hes gonna do another playthrough.........)
IMO the best thing is to tell him the truth and not change your clothes, since in that case he doesn't end up lying to Undyne so he doesn't feel bad about lying to his friend.
10:06 There is a sign on the wall in every room with a hint for which switch was it, lol.
A note for the Flowey fight
In the "soul phases" (the intermission bits) you can't die regardless of how much damage you take
The flowey fight is known for being easy "if you know what you're doing", you probably just picked up on that quite fast.
I'd recommend re-playing it and doing some of what you missed, both runs (although pacifist definitely has more) have interesting things to see.

As it happens quite a few loose ends do get tied up in a few optional events (Like how papyrus kept mentioning how you still haven't come over to him for that date for example)
man if only there was some secondary playthrough you could do to see these events...
oh well, guess we'll never see them
Green mage from everhood hi

Even if you happen to change your armor after lying or telling the truth, you can't escape his goof
im pretty certain the "intended" or expected order for the routes is:
neutral run (player is figuring out the game, probably spares/kills a few monsters along the way. Toriel especially has a special mechanic where she is easily killed on accident by the player)
pacifist (player is prompted to do so and gets to know the characters very personally)
genocide (player has exhausted everything else and desperately wants more content.... just like a certain in game character).

Good luck and have fun with it!
10:00 .................... bro.... read the sign..............
I'm pretty sure you can cut the muffet fight short by buying a spider product in the ruins and eating it during the fight
but why would you? it's one of the coolest fights in the game, and honestly possibly my second favorite one after the obvious n1.
This game changed my life. Mostly my music composition skills (I have used FL Studio to recreate Megalovania 30+ times)
It's also so weird how this guy continually plays extremely popular games with almost 100% blind playthrough. As though bro's been living under a rock for years lol

afterall, Papryus even told the player this just incase they forgot during the Undyne fight, wwww
2:10 The Genocide route is now known as the masochist route. Got it.
