When Brooke said, "It's a boy," I thought she still didn't know who he was. And when she said "He's back," I was unsure she knew his name, even if she recognized him.

Superstar was a strange episode that a lot of fans loved and disliked it in equal measure. Johnathan being the central character was an unusual concept, harping back to Earshot when he felt so useless and unwanted he was going to commit suicide. Here we see him as a James Bond type hero who can basically do anything and is universally loved. Even at the end when he talks to Buffy once reality is restored Buffy once again doesn't judge him but as in Earshot offers her help and support showing who the true hero and Superstar is.

it seems to me this episode tends to be much better received by male viewers than female viewers -- and i think it is probably because it's fundamentally about a man (jonathan) intruding on a woman's space (buffy's -- and it's definitely her role that he's usurped almost in its entirety) -- and i think a lot of women feel like they get more than enough of that in real life. the episode isn't nearly as escapist for female viewers as it is for male viewers.

They have to inetersperse the plot-heavy dramatic episodes with comediic/monster of the week ones,
