The Mystics of Sufism | The Inward Path of Islam

  • Sufism is a mystical and contemplative dimension of Islam. It is a spiritual path that focuses on seeking a direct and personal experience of the Divine. The term "Sufi" originally referred to those who wore wool (suf in Arabic) as a symbol of their detachment from material possessions and worldly desires. Sufism emerged within the early centuries of Islam and has since evolved into various schools and orders, each with its own practices and teachings. Sufis seek to overcome the ego and attain a state of selflessness and surrender to the Divine will. One of the most renown Sufis is the Persian poet Rumi #shorts

my fave rumi quote, and also a key mindset to manifestation of your dreams:
"when I run after what I think I want, my days are a furnace of stress and anxiety; if I sit in my own place of patience, what I need flows to me, and without pain. From this I understand that what I want also wants me, is looking for me and attracting me. There is a great secret here for anyone who can grasp it."

A lot of people don’t know, but where I am from in Africa their are Sufi muslims out here which seclude themselves from the general population and seclude themselves , to avoid distractions from this world so they can devote all their time to worshipping Allah. Some of them are so detached from this world they avoid women and marriage completely and remain celibate their entire lives And so they practice a concept known as “Semen Retention” where they cultivate the masculine essence and energy and use it to reach spiritual enlightenment. Which is why Sufi Muslims have a glow and radiance in their face also know as “noor” as they devote all their time in praising Allah. However as stated you won’t find these individuals in the general population as they tend to seclude and isolate themselves in rural areas. These guys remain celibate and devote their entire lives to Allah and hate this materialistic world. They live a very minimalistic life and detach themselves from owning and enjoying the pleasures of this world in fear of becoming attached to the materialistic world.

Bid'ah and haram. Read the following from Bukhari 5063:
A group of three men came to the houses of the wives of the Prophet (ﷺ) asking how the Prophet (ﷺ) worshipped (Allah), and when they were informed about that, they considered their worship insufficient and said, "Where are we from the Prophet (ﷺ) as his past and future sins have been forgiven." Then one of them said, "I will offer the prayer throughout the night forever." The other said, "I will fast throughout the year and will not break my fast." The third said, "I will keep away from the women and will not marry forever." Allah's Messenger (ﷺ) came to them and said, "Are you the same people who said so-and-so? By Allah, I am more submissive to Allah and more afraid of Him than you; yet I fast and break my fast, I do sleep and I also marry women. So he who does not follow my tradition in religion, is not from me (not one of my followers).

"Ayun al-dayga" is an Arabic phrase that translates to "The Way to the Return" or "The Path to the Return". In Islamic spirituality, it refers to the concept of the Sufi path, where one seeks to return to their true nature and essence, which is believed to be in line with the divine.
In this context, "al-dayga" means the "return" or "the way back", implying a journey towards spiritual growth, self-awareness, and ultimately, union with the divine.
The phrase is often used in Sufi literature and poetry to describe the journey of the soul as it seeks to transcend its ego and worldly attachments, and reunite with its divine source.

There was a book I found in the 1980s.. Mysticism by Evelyn Underhill... she said that the mystical experience crosses the boundaries of religion, it is the same throughout the human race and she quoted the sufi, but from what she said, being a Sufi in Islam is probably more dangerous and difficult (at least, in ancient times)than being a Gnostic is in Christianity, in the Middle Ages. Being a Gnostic, well you get the point.

I live in Tzfat in Israel, which is known as a main center of Kabbalah. What is less widely known is that Sufis flourished here too and the Jews who learned Kabbalah and the Sufis collaborated in their religious studies and cooperated closely in various walks of life. I've heard from some of the scions of the old families here in Tzfat that there was a time when Jews and Arabs were real friends in this time. I'm sure sanity will reign again.
There are still Jews who study Kabbalah and Sufi in the nearby town of Kadita.

In reality this concept of the journey towards God exists in many other religions & timelines. This is also the realm of metaphysical reality. The only reason this path is not popular despite it's greatness is that it is the most difficult journey a human being can face.

Sufism was an effort started by a lady called Rabeya of Basra, now in Iraq, to transform Islam from a formal religion to an informal religion.
Jalaluddin Rumi is a sufi poet of the highest level ( I have read his book Darr-ul Masnabi, translated by Robert Fitzgerald.
Unfortunately, he, Hazarat Mansur Hallaj, Salim Chisti, Bulle Shah are exceptions. Most, including, Hazarat Nizamuddin Auliya and others were typical muslim converters.
The Sufism of Iran is called ' Irfan' and of India is called ' Tasawuff'.
However, Sufism belive in duality, just like any other Abrahamic faith.

Actually, the ancient tenets of Sufism were that Allah was a concept of Divine Love and Oneness, not an actual “being”. Sufism predates Islam. When Islam came along, sects of Sufi’s began to embrace a “being” concept.
It is actually not known which definition Rumi embraced. If you understand the deeper meanings of his works, I tend to think he meant concept.
The problems begin when you have people with lesser consciousness of the Divine, teaching lesser ideals. Teachers can only teach from the level of consciousness they reside in.
This is the danger then, of engaging in exoteric religion….you have handed over your heart to be created by someone else’s understanding.
You cannot actually teach anyone anything….they have to do the work themselves. Teaching only allows an intellectual understanding…..hence why the esoteric Sufism is the language of Love, of the Heart. 💜

    MAIL OF ISLAM
    Knowledge & Wisdom
    WHO IS AWLIYA?
Awliya Allah or Waliyullah literally means friend of Allah.
Awliya are the pious people those who obeyed and followed the orders of Allah Almighty and sunnat of beloved Prophet sallallahu alaihiwasallam in every aspects of their life and finally were pleased and accepted by Allah Almighty.
A Wali is someone who occupies a very close station to Allah and is protected by Allah from major sins and repetition of sins in general, and kept in a state of obedience. It is a very special rank and position of acceptance given by Allah to His beloved servants.
When we call Awliya or Waliyullah, it includes whole Noble Sahaba (the companions of beloved Prophet ﷺ, Tabi'een, Tab al tabi'een, Imams and other Awliya.
However, when people used to speak they call sahaba in their unique name. Since it is the noble status in Islam. Hence, commonly we say waliyullah for Tabi'een, Tab al tabi'een, Imams and other Awliya.
    THE STATUS OF AWLIYA
It is the common Islamic theology that the status of all the noble sahaba is much higher than that of all Awliya Allah. Likewise, the status of all Awliya is higher than that of ours.
    AWLIYA IN AL QURAN
♦ Beware! Verily, the friends of Allah will not have any fear, nor will they grieve. (10:62)
Awliya will never worry for anything if anything happened that they disliked. Also they will never fear for the future on worldly matters. But they will always be remained in God-fearing.
    AWLIYA IN AL HADITH
    ♦ Allah's Apostle ﷺ said:
"Allah said, 'I will declare war against him who shows hostility to a Wali of Mine. And the most beloved things with which My slave comes nearer to Me, is what I have enjoined upon him; and My slave keeps on coming closer to Me through performing Nawafil (praying or doing extra deeds besides what is obligatory) till I love him, so I become his sense of hearing with which he hears, and his sense of sight with which he sees, and his hand with which he grips, and his leg with which he walks; and if he asks Me, I will give him, and if he asks My protection (Refuge), I will protect him; (i.e. give him My Refuge) and I do not hesitate to do anything as I hesitate to take the soul of the believer, for he hates death, and I hate to disappoint him"
Narrated by : Abu Huraira RadhiAllahu Anhu
Book : Sahih al Bukhari 8:76:509
This is a powerful and profound Hadith Qudsi in which Allah informs and invites us to be among His friends and allies. It undoubtedly demonstrates the reality and existence and nature of these Awliya (Intimate Friends of Allah), and so no one has the right to deny their existence and special distinction after this knowledge has come to them.
    It tells us:
    1. Showing enmity to the friends of Allah is among the major sins.
    2. Affirming that there are Awliya Allah among His slaves. This cannot be denied.
    3. Affirming that Allah loves and that this is one of His attributes.
    4. That pious deeds drives one closer to Allah. This is experienced by anyone who performs righteous actions.
    5. When Allah loves a person He gives him spiritual and physical strength.
    6. When Allah loves a person He answers his prayers.
    7. Affirming that Karamat (mini miracles) are real and only pious people have the potential to experience them if Allah so wills.
    8. All believers have the capacity and ability to become the Awliya Allah.
    HIERARCHY OF AWLIYA
Hafiz Sakhawi in his Maqasid al-Hasana (p. 10 #8) and Hafiz Suyuti in his Hawi lil Fatawi (2:250-51) state that Ibn ‘Asakir (Tarikh Dimashq 1:300) and Hafiz al-Khatib (Tarikh Baghdad 3:75-76) both relate that Abu Bakr al-Kattani said:
The Nuqaba are 300, the Nujaba are 70, the Abdal are 40, the Akhyar are 7, the ‘Umud (supports) are 4, and the Ghawth is 1. So the dwelling of the Nuqaba are in the Maghrib, the Nujaba in Egypt, the Abdal in Sham, the Akhyar travel throughout the Earth, the ‘Umud are in the corners of the Earth, and the Ghawth is in Makka. So when a need arises among the commonality, the Nuqaba plead to Allah to fulfil it, then the Nujaba, then the Abdal, then the Akhyar, then the ‘Umud, and if they are answered by Allah (it stops with them), and if not, then the Ghawth pleads, and he does not complete his request until it is answered.
    WHAT IS KARAMAT?
Karamat are the miracles that performed by Awliya with the blessings of Allah Almighty.
It is the belief of Islam that the Prophets have miracles which is called as mu’jizat, among which is included knowledge of the Unseen continually bestowed to them by Allah.
It is also the doctrine of Islam that the Awliya have miracles which is called as karamat, that they received from Allah, among which is “Kashf” (unveiling/perception of the unseen).
The fact that the Awliya have knowledge of the Unseen (and other miraculous abilities) is attested to by the Qur’an and Sunna and the experience of the righteous Muslims throughout the centuries of the history of Islam, and does not constitute, as some misguided Muslims claim, kufr or shirk.
    Proof from the Quran
♣ The Wali who was with Sayyidina Sulayman (Alaihissalam) brought him the throne of Bilqis quicker than the blink of an eye. He was characterized as "one who had knowledge of the Book," as Allah stated,
"One with whom was knowledge of the Book said, 'I will bring it to you before your gaze returns to you…' (Q27:40)",
and this is Asif bin Barkhiya (a non-prophet human), the scribe and relative of Prophet Sulayman (Alaihissalam), according to the Tafsir of Ibn ‘Abbas and the majority of commentators.
    Proof from the Hadith
♣ Harith ibn Malik al-Ansari passed by the Prophet ﷺ who asked him, “How are you this morning, O Harith?” and he replied, “This morning I am a true believer in Allah.” The Prophet ﷺ said: “Take care of what you say, for everything has a proof to it, so what is the proof of your belief?” He said: “I have turned myself away from this world by keeping awake at night and staying thirsty by day; and I can almost see the Throne of my Lord in full view before me, and I can see the people of the Garden visiting each other, and the people of the Fire wailing to each other.” The Prophet ﷺ said, “O Harith! You have realized (the truth), therefore cling to it.” Some versions add, “(This is) a believer whose heart Allah has illumined.”

    Every morning a new arrival.

    some momentary awareness comes
    as an unexpected visitor.
    Welcome and entertain them all!

    who violently sweep your house
    empty of its furniture,

I know the Lord by the Lord without doubth or wavering .
My essence is his essence ın truth, without defect or flaw.
There is no becoming between these two and my soul it is which manifests that secret.
And since I know myself without blending or mixture
I attained to union with my Beloved, without far or near.
I obtained gifts of the Lord of affluence without recrimination.
I did not lose to him my soul nor does it remain to the Lord of dissolution.
(Sufi hymn from ibn-i Arabi )
    Source book: know they self...
If you know your self then you know your lord because your soul has the nur of the Lord
May the all mighty Lord of all things Allah bless you with love wisdom and healt and luck.....
