Oh god, the Sennheiser sounds SOOOO MUCH BETTER than the A40's and 50's, but the A10's sounded pretty good IMO, is there any way to turn OFF the mic EQ for the others? that might help...

Senheiser is an actual audio based company. Not gaming. Of course they will sound better.

The A10's mic quality would be superb if they fixed the sound of the wire rubbing up against you piercing through.

The Sennheiser has a static noise. None of the astros do. The A10s have best quality mic, ot of all, in my opinion. The A40s have the best quality audio when you're gaming, also with the least delay, as the A50s are wireless, they have a tinyyyyyy delay on them. The Bright setting on the A50s is my favourite, the airy setting sounds too cheap. Either way, people are gonna watch your streams, you're a brilliant content creator.

Yekerz I felt like i heard the cable hitting the headset as well and it sent that sound" into the mic". But overall the astro 40 and 50's should sound better if the 10's sounded that decent.

Great video, I have the A50s. The airy setting is the only one I use. The mic is defiantly the weakest feature of the headset though.

  • @OmegaHulk2010
    @OmegaHulk2010 6 ปีที่แล้ว +3

The A50 sounds just slightly muffled/more Radio-like in comparison to the Sennheiser,
but in return the A50 doesn't have the "hissing" noise you descried earlier in the video and the is no punch whe saying your P's .
All in all I think you should go for the A50, the audio can always be tweaked to make you sound clearer, plus the freedom of being cordless should give you a greater sense of comfort.

g'day Blunty, bloody good job with your headset review mate. I dont normally comment on videos on youtube but i think you deserve to know how good of a job you done. this has to be one of the best reviews i have seen yet.
If I could suggest one headset you might be interested in reviewing is the new Turtle Beach Elite 2 headset.
Just a heads up.... its wired ;) haha.
Cheers mate. keep up the good work!

I know EXACTLY feeling of hunting headphones, Microphones and headsets, been on that hunt for awhile till i grabbed the Yeti pro, put it on an arm, grabbed a pair of HD 650s and called it a day, been almost two years now and i still love my setup. Sure there is a cord still there and i do sometimes get annoyed by it but, the quality is just mmmmmmm...oh and the cost was bleh for my setup but so far, no regret.
ANYWAYS back on topic: the A10 had the better mic of the Astros, still found the Senns to sound a tad clearer but its marginal but the A10 were "warmer" A40 reminded me of a phone´s mic and those arent great....and A50 sounded like shit really. IMO its between A10 and the Senns.
The A10 also had a quiet poping sound, not very noticeable but its there if you pay attention but maybe a small piece of cloth could fix that.
Senns, again clearer, abit colder in the sound but defenetly clear.
A40, sounded lika a phone call (aka shit) and honestly worse. those fancy feature might be useful i guess? but i wouldn't go with that one anyway.
A50 was the worst among them, hollow sounding, abit muffled even.
Hmmm, i can understand the frustration of the cable as i said before, but you could do what i did, route them under and behind the table in a way so the cord is long enough for you to use them without them pulling when you move your head but short enough that they arent on the floor or in the way, it works well and is worth the work behind it.

IMHO I think the A10's sounded much better than the Sennheiser. Seriously. And I am wearing a headset to hear that. They almost sounded as good as you Big Razer Mic. It actually was a huge surprised when you switched over to them. The Sennheiser are slightly tinny. but the A10's have a great Balance of sound and more clarity.

I was starting to get use to the wireless headset, but once you went back to the Sennheiser it was like my ears opened up again, very huge difference. The wireless headset also has slight pops and crackles every so often, not sure if you noticed that too.
Just depending on how much the cable really bothers you in the end, maybe push it through one of those holes in the head rest of your chair to keep it off your lap/arm rest.
Also have you had a look at the V-MODA BoomPro MIC? I use an audio grade pair of headphones and just use the BoomPro MIC when I need it.

Very useful video. I've owned a A40 since the introduction, own a discontinued A38 and have been looking for the "perfect" wireless headphone (it doesn't exist). This might bring me to spend on the A50 as the limitations are "acceptable", but today the A20 was introduced and that might just be "enough".
Would love a follow-up with how you ended up your streaming, with a slight additional focus on the sound you hear between all the options.
I'm also surprised that I forgot that Logitech bought Astro Gaming ... not sure how I feel about that.

  • @Htt381
    @Htt381 6 ปีที่แล้ว

Coming from someone who studied Audio Engineering quite some time ago, the Sennheiser headset was in its own league, although, it did sound like on this headset, the cable movement was getting transmitted through the microphone the most. Your voice did sound significantly clearer on them than the other headsets and this clarity is something that feels like a breath of fresh air when listening to your videos and other TH-camrs with high end audio gear.
With all that said, understandably you're trying to go wireless where possible. I also agree with some others that the A50s had less clarity than the A10s (and the A40s sounded pretty average to me). However, in the interest of you going wireless and comparing just the Sennheiser headset to the A50, yes the difference is quite noticeable, but for the convenience of going wireless. If I was in your boat, I'd be investing in the A50s and fine-tuning the microphone as much as possible to get the best that you can out of it.
Take out of this what you will. I'll continue to enjoy your videos either way.

The first option for the A50's sound like you're talking from behind a pillow, the airy setting sound a little tinny but not what I would call 'bad' per se. The third option wasn't good, about on par with the pillow mode. The Sennheiser's sound the best, no competition.

I dont mind the wireless headset it was an ok mic, but ofcourse the senheister had a way higher quality mic. Personally i think you should the astro headset because you're going to wear them for a really long time. Btw the sennheister headset made a muffeling sound when you touched the cable.

I will just ask you 1 question, are the a10's as comfy was the a40's or a50's. I used a par of a40's at the ebexpo back 2014 and the only thing i could say was its like having 2 clouds strapped to you head and the only complaint i had was they were a little bit heavy and i want to know if the a10's are the same

I've gone through a few headsets in my time. Started with logitech way back in the day. it was simple and worked...until it didn't, then I swapped to the A40's and the sound was good but the microphone was horrible but their customer service was even worse and the reason I will never go back (I sold them when I moved countries).
Right now I'm rocking the Philips SHP9500 with a V-MODA Boommic attached that plug into a Asus Xonar U7 and it works incredibly well, super comfortable. I initially used the Sennheiser 598SE but I had annoying experiences with the mod to turn the 2.5mm jack to a 3.5mm in order to fit the V-MODA. I wouldn't mind a wireless setup though but I'm also not complaining.

The Sennheiser mic still certainly sounds better, but not so much that I would actually care if you switched to the A50. The A50 mic was still plenty good enough, you could hear you clearly, there wasn't any background noise, I think it would be just fine for streaming. Plus, a happy Blunty (meaning one who isn't getting choked out by his headset cable) will likely be a more entertaining Blunty.

By now I've heard the A40 and A50 multiple times, and in your video it was honestly the only time I thought that the A50 sound worse than the A40. There is popping. Probably the result of wireless, wow, I didn't expect there to be these interference noises. The A40 sounds a bit too muffled in any mic review, and the A50 somewhat better, and I would go with Bright, not Warm. Warm just sounds like you're talking through a piece of cardboard, to me. Interestingly, the A10 sounded better to me than the A40 *and* the A50! It actually sounded identical to me, as the Sennheiser? Are you sure you switched over to the A10?? I didn't notice a difference.

    • @Jammet
      @Jammet 6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

Second go through. It's really no contest, the Sennheiser wins by a mile. I wouldn't make the sacrifice. If anything, I'm flabbergasted by just how much worse the A50 sound, for the price. I have a - by comparision - much less desirable headset, a Razer one, which all in itself already disgusts a lot of people. However this Kraken 7.1 is in it's third year now, with thousands of hours of it sitting on my head, and in all recordings that I've ever heard, and all opinions ever shared with me, over Teamspeak and Mumble and the sort, the clarity of the mic on that thing stood out very positively. It also "enhances" the voice digitally, and I don't know if that's cheating somehow, but I haven't been looking back. Warranty's run out a while ago and this thing, decried as the childs toy by many, is working out for me.

    Hello Blunty,
i listen back on the video now with my desk Speakers, my Logitech G633, my in-ear onkyo E600M and a my buddies beyerdynamic dt 900 series headphones.
In my opinion the sennheiser has the clearest and cleanest voice to listen to but also has some background hardware noise like the cable transfering vibrations into the mic.
The Astro A10 was the best voice sound of the Astro headsets i have to say, it's more flat then the sennheiser but still has a nice crisp voice to it.
The A40 with the Amp-box sound already very flat, roomy and distanced and the A50 i would say is equaly bad to listen to.
Specially the A40 and A50 you have a very hard noisegate sound that is clicking in the audio.
I would stay with the sennheiser for now till you find a better solution but Astro is not the way to go.

I bought a set of Astro a50's and thought they were great. Then the mic stopped working and subsequently broke apart and fell to pieces. I now use Sennheiser 600's run through a Cambridge dac magic. They leave the Astro's for dead in every way.

dude why are the a10s so good, Im getting one soon

The problem with a40s is the Mixamp. When you connect them directly to your sound card, they sound great. As soon as they are connected through the Mixamp, they sound like ass. Astro, sort it out.

A10, S50, sennheiser then S40. In that order for Mic sound.

A10 sounds better. The A40 just has more options and functions. The gate is really nice to have. I’ll NEVER buy the A50. I don’t mind the chord so I’ll be buying the A40 soon.

Stay with Sennheiser for now. in terms of sound from this video, Sennheiser>A10>A50>A40.
However - you were getting some scratching or cable noise from the Sennheiser - most annoying in the opening of the video.

I have the a40s and I've just upgraded to the a50s because of the wire, so annoying.

I'm not a huge fan of the A40/50 mics, the just sound super 'gamey'? I don't know, I much prefer the Sennheisers and the A10

Not a fan of the warm. Go the airy the warm sounds a bit too muffled.

A10 was definitely the best mic of the astros

The A10 sound 10x better than the A40. Such a shame. I bought the a40 awhile back and immediately regretted buying them after i heard how poor the quality sounded on the mic. Im probably just gona buy the A10 and sell my mix amp.

The design for the A40/50 is better than the A10 but the mic for A10 is better :/

Didn't like the sound of the A40s. The A50s are better but sound like a slightly out of tune radio. The A10s are about as good as the Sennheiser and don't have that annoying creaking sound that the Sennheisers do. For me the A10s are my favourite for the microphone sound but the A50s are more than acceptable in the "airy" preset.
