    I've never seen a performer like j-hope. It's just a known thing in ARMY that you come out of a concert j-hope biased. It happened to me. I was a Jimin-bias of 8 months but Hobi had me screaming his name at the top of my lungs the whole show. It's hard to command a stage with 6 other BTS members on it but he does and he makes it look easy. Also, his rap style is so versatile. I think since he has such instinctual musicality, he's able to do a lot to play around with the verses will still understanding how to work the beat to make you move. He really takes advantage of his dance background to come up with flows that hit just right. And then his voice has so much texture and variety and character that he's really able to switch it up. Melody, tone, rasp, belts, falsettos, grimy deep notes...he's got a big bag of tools and the confidence to use them all. He's really 1 of 1. There's never been a rapper/performer like him and I really feel like he adds so much color to the hip hop and rap world. Someday we're going to see hip hop artists coming up and say things like "he/she has a j-hope flow." He's out here innovating.
    And I really agree that people don't give him enough credit. Intro vids start him off by saying "he didn't rap before bts" but neglect to mention that he grew up steeped in hip hop and has currently been rapping and writing for 10 years (just a couple less than RM & Suga). He's also non-traditional and I think therefore less accessible to western ears. We hear RM & Suga and we recognize that as rap we're more used to so we immediately ascribe more value to it. And then in all areas of art people tend to value dark or painful things over bright and optimistic things, deeming them more "intellectual" or "authentic," completely forgetting the fact that joy and hope are some of the most powerful emotions in the human experience. So because RM & Suga tend to rap about darker topics (loneliness, depression, diss-tracks, etc), it's seen as more legitimate. Also because Hobi chooses to integrate melody and sometimes opts for flows that ride the beat a little more, people don't recognize his agility or speed. He's demonstrated both, but they're not associated with him and people tie things like speed to difficulty. I think RM is a prodigy when it comes to rap. There are few rappers in this world who have his level of ability. But Suga and j-hope are both god tier rappers and, between the three, I really think any ranking comes down to stylistic preference. And that's even hard too because they all do what they do so well that for me personally it's more of a mood thing. But my point is that j-hope is INCREDIBLY skilled. No one can fault his technical ability when it comes to rap. He's a phenomenal rapper. And his style is so unique that I think his optimistic lyrics and his stylistic switch-ups are a defining part of BTS' signature sound.

      I love what you wrote. I so agree to what you said about Hobi. I love him so much. I’m an OT7 but my ultimate bias are the rapline. And Hobi have that really special place in my heart he makes me happy even just by looking at his smile and hearing him laugh.💜

      Its so sad to see armys overlook hobi's talents as a rapper/composer but I'm glad so many of us appreciate him.

    • @css1173
      @css1173 2 ปีที่แล้ว +8

      I feel like there's this phenomenon where a lot of armys don't know much about rap (a lot of them didn't like rap before getting into BTS) and so they have no idea how to judge a rap performance and just automatically assume Hobi is a less accomplished rapper because he didn't rap before becoming a trainee. The amount of times I've seen someone bring up speed when talking about rap oh my goodness. In fact a lot of armys still don't like rap very much, which is why there is such a disparity in popularity between the vocal line and the rap line.

  • @istanthegreatest
    @istanthegreatest 3 ปีที่แล้ว +106

    I agree in everything said about Hobi. From being underestimated to still be making it even if he's not part of BTS. Seokjin said it once too. That no matter what Hobi be doing, he'll be successful. Hobi's music reflects his drive to become a well-rounded performer and his attention to detail is found throughout BTS' and his solo projects. Sometimes, it's the smallest vocal inflection or lyric that makes all the difference. The only musician I believe that sounds better in live than the recording.

      @savagenoona you hit the point. Just like other music legends, he is very passionate in his craft and always thrives to do better. He only wants to deliver the perfect performance to the audience but then people are criticizing him for pointing out other members mistake claiming Hoseok does it because of insecurity and jealousy. I couldn't agree more when RM said that they won't make it without JUNG HOSEOK. The man was born to be on stage and people who've witnessed him live are blessed to have experienced what it is to be _"HOSEOKED"._

    • @istanthegreatest
      @istanthegreatest 3 ปีที่แล้ว +8

      @savagenoona these toxic solo stans are very disappointing. They act deaf and blind everytime BTS members or staff praises Hoseok for a job well done. They create a different story or even a baseless analysis of something that's already in plain sight just to hype their biases. But as the saying goes _"Your bias may not be Hoseok but he is your bias' bias"_ , I just smirk at them. I got BTS members with me supporting Hoseok as he continue to show his limitless capabilities.

    4:46 Yes! Hobi just *belongs* on stage. It's always been like that. Since debut. The others came across as exceptional rookies, but j-hope was a full-fledged artist and performer ever since the beginning. Please please please, you can fanboy over J-hobi anytime you want! I will be here for it! I love to see Hope being appreciated! I personally don't think he gets the accolades he deserves. He is the ultimate trifecta! His dance, rap and vocal skills (IMO) are second to none! Then we got his visuals which are off the charts (he's soooo good lookin' OMG), his personality and charisma, his sense of humor, warm heartedness, his love for his members and ARMY! As for his stage presence, well holy fricken crap! His swag and stage presence deserve their own zip code! Never seen ANYONE do it like he does it! He's my UB and I'm proud of him! I love to see other J-hope bias' showing our dance king some love and attention! Please go on with your bad self

And yes he always said that he had to work extra hard for people to recognize him as a Rapper.He always felt like he had to proove himself m. Suga said he is phenomenal and that he hadn't reached his limit yet. And RM said he envy Hobi stage presence.

    I think he's a performer through and through, and he knows his voice and dance so well that he can achieve exactly the effect he wants. It's easy to see that RM is a lyrical genius, Suga rides a flow like no other, but j-hope's superpower is his ability to take the listener/viewer on a journey. The reason he likes his melodic, quick-switching rap over just fast or aggressive rap, is I think he has an understanding of how to engage and entertain an audience, even better than RM or Suga. That's j-hope's true talent to me.

    Yes to all that well-deserved j-hope appreciation!! Hobi has some mind-blowing stage presence and he brings such a bold flavour to everything he does. It's like every verse has this uniquely j-hope fingerprint.
    At 10:32 the song you felt had a very j-hope flair was meant to be exactly that. IIntro: Skool Luv Affair has the rap line rapping about love in their own way before finally coming to the Bangtan-style. So hobi's verse was him showing it in his own style with a beat that is full of hope hehe. FYI, the Bangtan-style music which follows hobi's was sampled for RM's Persona.
    Anyway, I absolutely love seeing hobi in his element. He thrives and comes to life on stage. It's a sight to behold!

    I think it's just hard to compliment him honestly. He's really good at disappearing and allowing others to have their moment and then when it's his turn he's just there and it's impossible to notice anything but him. His confidence makes him a very commanding presence and he can turn it on and off at will. It seems like there is so much that he can do exceptionally well that really all you can say about him is he's perfect. You can compliment the talents of the other members all day but Hobi is just perfect.

    Haha, I know what you mean at the end there. He's not a star bc he's in BTS. He's in BTS bc he's a star, like every other member is. Just like how BTS aren't stars bc they now have all these awards and #1s. They got those bc they're stars.
