I study fashion design and i dont get why that red full canvas is pad stitched from top to low part. In class they teach us to pad stitch the lapel so it folds smoothly and because of that folding you dont see the stitch. We dont pad stitch the hole canvas from top to low part, just some interior stitching to attatch canvas to chest piece becoming a whole piece, but not that piece TO de exterior fabric. So im a little confuse now. Could you explain me why that full canvas its fully pad stitched? Wouldnt that be visible from the outside?
Also, they made us put a first fused layer before you put the full canvas, which i dont get it as that is something i only found people practising on the half canvas since theres no hard layer on the low part. And even on the half canvas you dont mention the fusible to be necesary, more like the opposite.
I feel like im learning wrong or something... please enlighten me :(

Hey i am an Italian tailor, let me try to explain it.
Basically we pad stitch from top to low just like you said, it folds smoothly because by stitching in a certain way it removes the air between the fabric and the canvas so it gives the ability for the lapel to folds well. If you just pad stitch just some parts only to attach the canvas it doesn't really make sense cause the principe reason for stitch the lapel it's ultimately for this reason.
      I hope i enlightened you

@@silvanocalabresecala Hi! First, thank u so much for your explanation 🙏🏻. I dont get why in my school they only pad stitch the lapel. They say is beause its only necessary to stitch that part in order to fold smoothly and because if you pad stitch all the chest + low part you could see the stitch (?¿) If i understanded you correctly, in a well done suit you could notice, if you look carefully, the stitch from chest to hem, not only in the back of the lapel, right?

@@churbichurbi yes actually we don't stitch the chest and lower part, only the lapel, some of them stitch the chest and lower part like it's shown in this video because they make they're own canvas so they need to attached the double pieces on the chest and the lower part with another layer of canvas, that's why you see the stitches on that part, but most of the time tailors buy the canvas that is already made up and sewn together so they just have to baste it on the jacket and pad stitch the lapel

Hey! I'm getting a tweed blazer out of a fairly heavy tweed (for a jacket). Would a full canvas be necessary or will half suffice?

I want to know if I got this right. The half canvas suit has neither canvas nor fused material in the lower part, so the lower part feels similar to a sweater?

While the main topic is informative. But, your words are skewed and misleading at times. For example, difference between full & half canvas. "Feels like wearing armor" ?
Half canvas " free flowing" as opposed to full canvas, are you serious?

Thanks for the comment! Indeed we’ve cleaned up our scripts a bit more. JS used to be the shyest speaker so his words were definitely more skewed as he’s gaining experience in the vlog world. The differences are explained a bit more clearly and assisted in the video description to avoid our viewers being triggered. Thanks for your passionate comment!
