There is a satisfaction in seeing old bikes being resurrected, than seeing new fancy carbon bikes being built

I just saw your video on why you should buy a 90s mountain bike, jumped on FB marketplace and saw a '92 Kona Hahanna. The ad just said "old bike" so I scooped it for $40! Then I saw this video and it got me pumped to build it out. It still has the original P2 fork and velocity stem. These steel bikes are so good and hold up against anything modern for most purposes!

I love this dude so much. I always feel weird when I'm spending so much time messing round with the tiniest details on old 90s bikes, but this guy gets it.

I've literally just bought a 93 Kona Lava Dome. I can't wait to get started with it.

Doing exactly that with a 95 Fire Mountain. 1x9 but with Project two forks, and either a velocity or girvin flexi stem!👌

That is beyond awesome. I love seeing vids of older bikes being repurposed for today's uses. That rebuild as a bikepacking bike is phenomenal. Keep making these videos.

I'm happy to see the old cantilever brakes didn't work out. Those XTR v-brakes work so well with it's parallelogram movement. Bike packing with added weight on old canti lever brakes would've been terrifying on the downhills. V-brakes so easy to setup and maintain too.

I still have my '96 Diamondback Sorrento and I'm seriously thinking about opportunities to give this old thing a new life!

I really enjoy your videos, I have watched quite a few now. Your attention to detail and your presentation is excellent. I also have built up some older bikes and totally agree about restoring older well made bikes rather than purchasing newer bikes with very complex and expensive components. 7 and 8 speed drivetrains are durable and much cheaper to source new parts. The only part I don't understand about your builds is the allure of the 1X drivetrains. For a strictly trails only bike it would work well but for a bike intended for bike packing I personally prefer the wider range of gears offered by a 2X or 3X drivetrain. You certainly have more experience than I do as a bike mechanic not to mention a wider array of tools. Perhaps as I view more of your videos I will gain a better understanding and do a 1X drivetrain for a future build. Thank you

Another awesome build! I keep looking at my Litespeed Obed and know there's so much I can do to re-fresh it...if I had the skills and time. My bike lives vicariously through your videos!

I love watching your videos, I watch and learn from you, the videos are so satisfying to watch. The music and everything I love it. Thank you for sharing all of your work. You inspired me to restore my old chromoly steel mongoose pro rockadile.

I had the cindercone back in the day, I loved that bike. I rode all around England on some of the best trails. Great friends and memories. I’m 56 now and I miss those days.

Whomst amongst us doesn’t just have a NOS xtr v-brake set in our parts bin? 😂 What a build. This era of Kona is pretty unbeatable.

Great video, the old Kona’s were the best. We’ve all been there with having to back track a step on a project and change direction to get it done.
