Asal is simply addicted to blocking his opponents. He used to do it with his legs, but once that became very obvious to everyone he started using his racket, or his left arm or even his left hand, deliberately grabbing his opponent's arm. It's disgusting! And such a shame, cause with his amazing skills and physical strength alone he could easily established himself as the top player in the world and a hero to all squash lovers out there. Instead, he's quickly becoming the most hated player of all time. He desperately needs therapy, and of course, much harsher punishment, for the sake of the sport.

He disguises it very well so that from the ref's point of view it is difficult to see, but when you see it from the front, it is blatant.

That should be a stroke ! The swing already end , and his further movement with the racket shown is definitely a conduct stroke, ref should give him a conduct stroke instead of let ball. he should be banned for another few months ! What he doing absolutely embarrassing the squash world

Allowing Asal's type of squash to continue will only destroy the game. Even when he is occasionally punished for it, it sours the whole mood of the game and - wholly unfairly - rattles his opponents. The blatant grab of the hitting arm of Elias should have cost Asal the game. Period.

This is entirely on the PSA. If this is okay, fine. Be a fringe sport completely dependent on one unstable country. But if it's not, take action and authorize referees to disqualify him, then give them protection out of the building. That final "let" when Elias had match point was a laughably obvious stroke and Mazzarella was clearly too scared to call it.

Absolutely horrible match. Asal was up to all sorts, conduct strokes, his swing is very strange. Elias was right that Asal plays a shot and then holds his racket in place with power so that when there is inevitable contact, it is hard contact. Having said that, Elias then played on the fact that Asal was dirty and tried to claim that way more was happening. Elias mental strength let him down. Also, the powerplay in the first game was farcical. Get it out of here. Overall, a poor advert for squash.

The way Asal is playing has nothing to do with this values. PSA has to take action and BAN him for at least a year. Organisations of tournaments also can help by not inviting this player anymore for there tournaments. I really think it's the only way to learn him that his behaviour has to change. No one is bigger than the game itself, even if you have as much talent as him, with this kind of behaviour he isn't welcome to play our beautiful game.

All cultures need time to grow up.. I admire and like a lot of Egyptian players, like Ramy, Gawad, etc.. But Egyptian spectators possibly not go to watch squash, just to see Their players.. In tenis spectators ussualy cheer up also for good opponent points..

it`s very easy to subtly block an opponent. You just hold a bit of tension in the arm on the follow-through, leaving the arm in that position a micro-second longer. Asal is master at it.
If ever he becomes world no. 1 for any length of time, I`ll stop watching squash.
I hope Elias reads all these comments below and derives some consolation from them.

    •  ปีที่แล้ว +4

it's not just that, he even hits the opponent, after the swing he does a counter movement as he did with Makin and also here with Elias. Disgusting, he should be banned for good.

I'm pretty sure Asal requested a review on Elias's hit early in the first game because he didn't notice that it was a boast. He looks away right before Elias hit the ball and based on the racquet prep it looked like it was going to be a straight drive. And if that's what Elias had intended, then of course the resulting shot (a weak "cross" to middle court) would have been due to a carry. But instead, he subtly boasted it and Asal just missed that fact.
Funny to see this kind of oversight at a very high pro level.

When will the PSA take PROPER action against Asal. I cannot in good faith recommend my casual squash friends to watch the game because of this player and everything he gets away with. If they truly care about the growth of the sport, they must be far far far stricter than they have been at any point thus far

We know that the real reason that squash can't get into Olympics is because it doesn't bring big money but the Olympics committee will always use this kind of match as an excuse that the quality and outcome of the game depends too much on the quality of refereeing. Sad for squash!

  • @KismetAurea

The entire match is rather for boxing, kick boxing (low kick) and another martial arts fans. Here it is presented with using racket and all not fair movements like grab opponent right hand, kicking ankles from behind (for that there is a red card and ejection from the field in soccer), hitting an opponent in the face with a racket from above, hitting in the face with using handle of racket, putting the racket on Elias body movement with wrist using (1:31:11 - I can't believe that judges given no let here!) and many others. Asal should rather compete in some sport in the ring, but certainly not on the squash court.

Shameful play from Asal and terrible reffing. I don't understand how you can interfere with an opponent's raquet hand multiple times and not get a conduct game.
Asal's movement is clean UNTIL the second he loses the advantage in a rally. He will use every push, elbow, and block he can to get a marginal benefit. All of his opponents never have these issues EXCEPT when they play Asal. His game is dirty.

Asal goes too far and on this games evidence a cheat.
I am balanced in the idea that there is dark arts in any sport, blocking/taking space is part of the game and it is quite acceptable at times. However he goes roo far.
Contact is natural at times and it should be encouraged to play through interference.
However examples of CLEARLY grabbing Elias’ arm and going over the line with taking space is too far.
Must be awful to play against and is sad, if Asal is so good, he should do his talking with his Squash, let opponents play Squash against him, if he is better without all the gamesmanship he should win the match IMO.
For this match alone I think there should have been some sort of DQ for Asal. He went overboard.

There should be a rule that after the second conduct stroke its match. I have been playing for 15 years and never received a single conduct stroke yet Asal gets at least 3 in every match.

  • @jiriblazek1298
    @jiriblazek1298 ปีที่แล้ว +1

This is not good for the sport. Young and aspiring players are watching and being encouraged to emulate this kind of play as it clearly leads to agitating your opponent and wins.
Asal should know better and as he seems to take long time to learn, the refs and PSA should at least show some maturity and integrity.
Unlike football/soccer, most people watching actually have some experience on court and that makes watching it so much more painful. I am not watching any more of his matches, it hurts.
