Am I the only one who’s noticed how sort of cinematic Ruins of the Empire is? Even just looking at these preview pages, it definitely seems like they went all out as far as structuring it. I’m not saying the other Avatar comics are bad or structured badly at all, but this one actually feels like a movie. Certain shots or panels in this case are very well done and the transitions and everything. Just make them move and you’d have something fantastic (not that it isn’t already great as a comic). Im in love with this particular trilogy.

Part of that for me is just that compared to the quality of recent comics this stands out as being lightyears ahead in terms of importance. After a weak start with Turf Wars this trilogy is showing us the potential of Korra comics and it feels like it actually has stuff to do and say with the plot and characters compared to Imbalance where it felt like they were afraid to do anything unique.
IMO Smoke and Shadow was the last important comic prior to Ruins and that was 3 and a half years ago, so we really have been starving for high quality content in the comics after they started with 4 great comics in The Promise, The Search, The Rift and Smoke and Shadow.

AirspeedPrime I agree. I’ve read all the comics for both shows, and while yes it has been a minute since a really great Avatar comic, there’s just something about this one. The Search was probably the last one I felt this way about, but also since this art style is identical to the show it just adds to it. The Search was originally going to be a movie anyway, so for that one it makes sense. I’m really excited tho. Hopefully the next Korra and Avatar comics will stay up here where they used to be.
Kuvira as a character is also just interesting on its own and there’s a lot we don’t know about her so they have plenty of room to explore that. Even though part 2 isn’t out yet, it makes me wonder where they will go after this trilogy. I would like to see a more Asami focused story at some point if they could do it right.

@@RikoSato Asami definitely needs a focus. Particularly with her grief and how she'll get through it.

Hella awesome! The book seems to cover exactly what we want to see - and even more, since I didn't expect Wu's arc. I'm really looking forward to the rest of the trilogy! My prediction: Guan is actually Kuvira's father, who we saw in part one. Is it just me or are they really looking so similiar, just in different age? Anyway, glad that they finally cover Baatar Jr. That's a really important arc to resolve!
I'm really excited! And - as always - thank you very much for being so quick! :D

Cant wait to see how things turn out! My only worry is that with so many plot lines and character arcs happening that we wont get a fleshed out and satisfying resolution to every one because of how short the comics are (makes you wish they could write a novel instead).
Im especially interested in Wu's arc and the dinamics between Kuvira, Suyin and Baatar Jr. As for Asami, I'll forever wish we could get more of her in the spotlight actually having character development, not being kidnapped/brainwashed every time. But I guess that (and bolin's arc) can wait as long as Kuvira gets explored as much as a character as complex as her needs.
    Great video as always.

Yeah Asami getting brainwashed in this trilogy after being kidnapped in Turf Wars is a big mark against this trilogy. The comics are making Asami into a literal damsel in distress trope and I don't like that!

@@Natasha-to1mh My nephews the one who's mad about who brought up points to me in a conversation on the comics making Asami a damsel in distress which upon reflection I agree with 100%. Doesn't matter how scary Asami looks on the cover of ROTE part 3, her being brainwashed is a cheap, unnecessary plot device.

Now this is getting intense! Kuvira is absolutely amazing, she always intrigued me, but now she's becoming my new favorite character. Every scene with her in these comics is interesting: the flashbacks, her reaction to Guan's and Dr. Sheng's actions, her dynamic with the characters, her desperate attempts of getting some trust from everyone. I can't wait for her encounter with Bataar Jr. Also, I'm excited to see the rest of her backstory, since we still don't exactly know how she got from her parents to Suyin.

I'm still more excited as they lean more towards Kuvira figuring out she killed Asami's father and her trying to make amends to her. Hopefully by the end of Part 3

I'd imagine she already knows she killed Asami's dad.

@@Natasha-to1mh She smashed a mosquito looking machine and that had someone inside it. I think she knows she killed Asami's father and even if she apologized, I don't see Asami accepting the apology. I sure wouldn't in her shoes.

Really excited for this! Didn't care much for Wu in S4 but I like what's happening with him here. The stuff going on with Kuvira is great too.
Still worried Asami's not going to get much development and we have to wait for another comic series.

I feel we might get moments where Kuvira will discover what she did to Asami's father and try to make amends with her.

11:46 yeah, several word scolded in a row is meaningful, especially when these comics seem to otherwise randomly bold words for no reason. But these are IN A ROW.
