  • I sold my Rolex Explorer II 16570 Cal. 3186 because prices were soaring and I decided to profit and buy a car. THIS CAR. And I am happy with my decision.

      It’s all good. Watch replaced, but my left arm is still not 100%. I would need arthroscopic surgery, which I can’t afford (because insurance deductible would be $8000!! Yes, 8 thousand fuckeroonies). So I just deal with the pain when I’m at the gym. It’s not too awful.

      I have it in storage. They sound AWFUL compared to newer units (I put a Continental in my SEC and the sound went from mud to pretty decent). As I am typing this I’m waiting on an install of a brand new German unit. CD and Bluetooth. It’ll look appropriate in the car and I’ll definitely do a quick video.

    This is not the final year of this diesel engine. Mercedes carried this over into the next gen S class( W140 chasis). I wish you the best of luck with this engine as it is known for catastrophic failure. This particular one may have already had an engine/short block replacement due to the fact that it is very old

    • @ItsTimePictures
      @ItsTimePictures  ปีที่แล้ว

      I keep getting these comments. This particular engine had a brand new head replaced under the prior ownership. That was ten years ago. There is nothing to fear here. Nearly 300k miles and still going super duper strong.

    • @turnne
      @turnne ปีที่แล้ว

      @@ItsTimePictures Well..its because those comments are real and reflect what actually happened
      Years ago....23-24 years ago...I had a 1992 300SD( W140 chasis). Absolutely great car
      However...engine started to burn oil profusely at about 90K miles
      Mercedes dealer and the aftermarket warranty company went back and forth on the fix and kept tearing things down.
      In any case they ended up putting a brand new( factory rebuilt) longblock engine replacement from Mercedes benz. The cost that the warranty company paid was paid was $14,000, at the Mercedes dealer, and this was in 2001!! The new engine came with a 48mo/5 year warranty through Mercedes Benz
      After the warranty was up I traded in the car for a BMW 7 series CPO

    I sure wish I could find one I live in Houston TX and thought it would be easy to find one any suggestions. I have had Mercedes my whole life and I’m fixing to turn 48 in May and I always drove diesels. I did have a couple of gasoline bottles but I have a bluetec right now and it is a horrible car. I just realized you said you we’re closing your channel. If by chance you get this please let me know. Enjoy your car!!

      They are out there, but hard to find a good one. My advice is come up with a budget, do as much research as you can and then head over to the benzworld forum and post that you are looking for a nice diesel and willing to pay such and such. You will receive help from forum members. It's MUCH easier to find a nice 300D than it is a nice 300 SD or 350 SDL. There are far more 300D's out there.

      @@ItsTimePictures I appreciate your help I have looked and looked but I have had 3 300D’s including a 300CD when I was younger I also owned a 300 SD also once upon a time and a 190D 2.5, 3 300E’s, C240, E300 Turbodiesel and an E350, 300CLK, C300 4Matic, with an additional E320 BlueTec at the same time but sold off the C300 4Matic!! But you have to remember I have been driving MB’s since I’m 16, 3 of the MB’s got flooded all at separate times in Houston over the years. I also got tired of cars and sold them and replaced them and no I’m not wealthy my father owns a seafood company and when I was younger and I got diesel really inexpensive not to mention I lived 26 miles from the local high school so I needed a safe car to get to school in. So that is my Mercedes Benz journey but I’m afraid the quality has gone down hill so who knows now and the new one just flat out don’t excite me. So who knows, but thank you for your advice and help your car sure was beautiful!! I also am thinking of selling my watch as it spends more time on the winder than my wrist and I started collecting Cartier!! So who knows about that as well just not safe anymore especially with a 4.5 carat diamond bezel!! LAMO but once again thank you!!

    You bought what is known as the 'rodbender.' Pretty cars but had defective head gasket.

    • @ItsTimePictures
      @ItsTimePictures  ปีที่แล้ว

      Do you know how many times I hear this? As though I did not research my own car… This engine was completely rebuilt with a brand new head that did not have the defect which hampered the first few years of production. The prior owner gave this car nothing but love and it showed. It’ll go for many more hundreds of thousands of miles.

    • @cmitch5493
      @cmitch5493 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@ItsTimePictures You are fortunate to have one that is repaired correctly with no damage. In the vast majority of cases, the new head is installed with the updated gaskets but the slightly bent rod in the affected cylinder is never addressed causing long term damage, These are truly beautiful cars and the W126 is when a Mercedes was a Mercedes. As for the real issue, an engineer explained to me that the 350 diesel was an overbored 300. This thinned out the space between the cylinders and the weak gaskets would blow causing water vapor to escape bending a rod or two. It didn't necessarily have to overheat for this to happen. Once the design flaw was discovered and Mercedes got a real bloody nose making these engines up, the production was scrapped.
