Exactly my thought as soon as I saw the sides of the car, the design language that Lamborghini has been using for decades. Nevertheless Lotus is delivering some beautiful designed cars lately.
And so the cyberpunk era of cars begins. The design looks amazing, the middle driving position is really interesting, but it draws some questions about security, like being able to integrate seat belts seamlessly. Of course it’s a concept car, but it would be interesting to see how a production car looks like. On the other side, it wasn’t specified, but this much space in the cabin would only seem to be possible with an electric engine configuration. I’d also love to see how this integrates with Lotus’s low weight, fun car concept. Without a doubt the future’s here and I’m all for it!

So much talk about ergonomics and mood lighting, very little about actual engineering design and performance which is what lotus has always been about. Everything seemed to be orientated around "UI" and nothing to do with the power, suspension.

When I was in high school (1990), I went to a car show in Atlanta. I saw "future cars" back then that looked similar to this. Don't hold your breath for this to come out. That front end won't look like that when they are forced to put a bumper on it.

idk if you saw the steering wheel at 4:35 , but it had gears going from 1 to 5 on the left. Most electric cars don't need more than 1 gear. I'm guessing it will have an ICE, but this looks to be just a concept car so that could change.
Absolutely incredible. First modern concept that my jaw dropped. This is what I want in a design. The door design and functionality is outstanding - a solution to a long-standing design problem. Demonstrates sincere attention to detail. Phenomenal.
Lol yeah that was my biggest peeve I was definitely wondering if there was a setting to speed up that door opening 😂😂 I can't imagine a hinge in that angle being very reliable for a door that opens fast though so maybe one of the compromises they had to make with limitations. Get good at yapping about the car as you wait to get in I guess 😂
I'm 17, And that means I'm forced to grow up into a world that will be full of eclectic, automatic and relatively non-combustion vehicles. Although that truth is sad I feel honored that there are people and companies - like those at Lotus - that are not afraid to be bold and make the most of the future to come, even better they are helping bring that future to the present. Realistically I'll never be able to afford nor drive a car like this, but I'm grateful machines like this are finally here. Good on you all at Lotus
This car is one of the most interesting designs I'v seen in a long time. Up there with ferrari purosangue, and the MC20. Lets see it on some tarmac. Iv been getting turned off with the direction most makes have been going in, so this is refreshing.
@ in my humble opinion… they’re just soulless. Sure they’re faster. But they drive themselves they’re controlled by iPads. You don’t work on them like you do an ice. To be fair though a lot of modern cars suffer the same problems. I’m a BMW guy and swore off any new ones when they made that wrap around display.

This is a proof that Lotus died with Colin Chapman, and today we are greeted with this: a Lamborghini Gallardo rip off with futuristic deformation, heavy, electric and complicated.

In his defense that way of saying it is used specifically in Art. Where by Analog art usually refers to traditional media like pencils, charcoal, oil paints etc and require good old fashioned techniques. As opposed to working with something digitally like Photoshop or Painter. It's not really used to denote "old fashioned, hands on, physical, etc" outside of that scenario usually.
Finally something distinctive and interesting. Design of supercars in the last 5-10 years was universally approaching a singular shape due to aerodynamic requirements. My only critique is that the door opening speed needs to be at least tripled.
Looks like a Bullet from the side. I think the black and white gives this LA police 🚔 car vibe. At least you have the colour of the lotus logo changed, it looks sleek and classy instead of that bold yellow and black logo that looks like a Sticker and ruins the image of the car. It would be nice if you guys made the Emira into a 4 seater with a bit more horse power 🎉🎉🎉

@chrisjames7803 not really, a full scale concept study is useful to iron out the kinks of the design. Ofc they have made the 3d model first and foremost, but you could only see and feel so much through a screen. Anyway, more and more of these fullscale studies were made using recyclable materials to push your agendas, so you should be celebrating it
Lotus have lost there way, bring back the esprit and make it a hybrid like Ferrari sf90 and 296. Or sell the name so someone else will bring it back, maybe a v12😊😮
Cool, but what exactly is next? Another SUV? Another big GT weighing 2.5 tons? Is all this work going to be wasted for better speakers in a new, heavy SUV? I assume that making a production car exactly like this would be very expensive and unprofitable. But that was the idea - that SUVs and GTs would make money, and sports cars would give fun to users and satisfaction to their creators. Without this, Lotus will lose its sense of existence and will be just a name for Chinese EVs.
Maybe this is a way to keep their designers feeling like they can explore their passion. Too much normal work might leave them uninspired. Still be better to just make them but could be part of it

look at the way he steps out of the car, if he had any passengers he would have to sit on their laps to get out, or climb over their legs. it looks cool but it's not practical at all.
Just saw this after looking at the Jag..... phew! Amazing innovation exists here still, and it's stunning inside and out! The Jag 'theys' should've looked at what Lotus are doing.
