Synopsis
Despite his merits during the Sunshot Campaign to bring down the tyrannical Wen Sect, Wei Wuxian was feared by the world for the unorthodox path in cultivation he himself created. Thirteen years after he was killed, he is summoned into the body of a lunatic called Mo Xuanyu, who was rejected by his clan and despised by his family, therefore sacrificing his own body to Wei Wuxian so he could avenge him. He'll soon meet a cultivator from his past, Lan Wangji .Together, they will try to discover the identity of the person to whom belongs the dismembered left arm they found at the Mo house. What they don't know is that this mystery will lead them to unravel what lies behind the tragic events that caused the death of many people and of Wei Wuxian himself.

Dang this is so much better than the live action drama. There were a lot of things in the live action that didn't really make sense plot wise and there's only so much you can do with special effects before things get to looking goofy.
The last minute, when wangji turned back and went, my heart broke to pieces.

The donghua of MDZS is actually really well-made in comparison with the actual novel by MXTX. But sadly they cut out every single interaction between WWX and LWJ. I would highly recommend reading the actual novel if you want to fill any gaps in the story line, as well as actually see their relationship grow.

The animation just brings out Wei Ying's power even more, like the fear people had for him makes so much sense in this one. It was a reason he became a huge target the Jiang family was able to regrow into huge power thanks to other clans fear of Wei Ying. So when there was a tiny chance to get his power or remove him naturally many would join in because they had no other choice. What sucks with the live action is that they didn't fully bask into this and show off Wei Ying's power to the full.
I love the live action to great lengths but the power elements just works better animated 😌

I'm watching this after seeing all of The Untamed first, where they briefly mention Mo Xuanyu. One thing I'm trying to figure out about this anime is: Why does the body look like Wei Wuxian's?
Mo Xuanyu probably didn't look like him. Did the body take on Wei Wuxian's image to reflect the soul now inhabiting it?
In novel after rebirth wei ying look like mo xuanyu but in drama wei ying was same even after rebirth
