I don’t want to see exercises like this anymore!
Unfortunately, pseudo-harmony or pseudo-music theory exercises are still being assigned today, where intervals and chords are taught completely out of a musical context.
And this is exactly what happens in this example, where I respond to a Musicus from our Patreon community regarding an exercise that is still given in academies and conservatories.
While I understand the good intentions behind these exercises, I find that the fact that they are detached from any context of tonality, bass scale degree, and voice movement makes learning confusing, unsatisfying, and meaningless!
This is exactly the opposite of a *Partimento-based method*, which I demonstrate every day both on Patreon and in my 1-to-1 lessons, where I teach music as if you had lived in the Renaissance or Baroque era.

Do these exercises, where you are asked to classify chords and intervals out of context, make sense, or is this energy that could be better channeled?
