Don't overlook J C F Fischer keyboard style.

Yes it is!
Thanks!!!!
I can only sing. Are those partimento exercises also good for singers? Even as a singer should I learn an instrument that I enjoy to help with musical development and knowledge as well?
Richardus, thanks for introducing me to this composer. The Italian tradition is very strong indeed, your knowlege of it, & also, the English masters is fantastic. So many just concentrate on the German tradition. This is a breath of fresh air.
Yours lessons are very usefull. Thx😊
Is this your composition ?

Thank you. Invaluable
Love the hat, love the bow tie, and the video was very informative as well. Thanks.
Very clear, illuminating exposition (!) of the art of fugue (!). Wish I had you as a teacher when I was a student! However, time and experience filled in the gaps for me, and I take the liberty of 'exposing' a fugue in 3 voices that I wrote during the pandemic (hence the title, in Latin). It more or less follows your instructions, with the addition of 2 countersubjects, heard (as you instruct) both above and below the subject, and pedal note on the dominant followed by cadence on tonic pedal. Fugue is fun! th-cam.com/video/t_5mI4qtaAs/w-d-xo.html
I think your advice about phrasing and variation are useful, but I wanted to ask about some of your counterpoint here. As I understand it, tensions/non chord tones should typically be avoided as arrival points/on strong beats.so that F# over the E would be a passing note, but falls on beat 3, which leads to a systemic issue with the next passage, where the E falling on beat 3 creates a minor 9th against the D# in the bass, which as I understand it, is typically not something you see in common practice(I'm not a baroque scholar though. I'm more of an all around composer so I may be wrong) Wouldn't it make more sense for the right hand to go G# B A G# E with the bass going E D# E, then the next passage, the melody goes F# A G# F# D# E with the bass going D#, B, B#, C#, then third passage, melody goes D# F# E D# B C# and the bass goes B G# B A? then it continues logically from there you get the picture this way chord tones fall on strong beats and passing tones/dissonances fall on weak beats? or is this level of dissonance/unstable intervals more common in baroque than I am aware?
Awesome! Work. @ezekielbrockmann114 he’s a talents guy! There are many people that can improv like this @heavyharpsichord is friend of mine who improvises slick stuff too. This is a great theme and fugue! Good play guy
Amazing. Now convince us that this is an improvisation.
Fantàstic Ricardus!!
Great advice! I've noticed often in the galant style that sequences are divided like this: max two repetitions and a variation that leads to the cadence. Grande Riccardo, sei un mito.
When I saw the title, I thought that this video would be about Coltrane changes in baroque music.
Why couldn't that G# in the alto part descend stepwise to an F# instead of ascending to the A#? It could also descend by a fifth to a C# or be tied over the bar-line as a suspension.
also if we ignore the diminution of the tenor the g# - a# is moving in parallel octaves to the alto part (a bit old fashioned thinking, i know). having the alto move stepwise downwards would solve it, while also creating a nice cadence with the bass, and creating a better melodic contour (no jump from the leading tone). there are cases where doubling the leading tone might work, but this is not one of them.
I guess that in this case it would break the sequence if he did that.
@@shamans2: Not in an obvious or intrusive way; there is a reason why the G# is doubled in the previous bar in the alto: the tenor leaves the G# after the first beat. I see no compelling reason to double the A#; I would have written an F# there.
@@davidgleba3832still, it would break the sequence, visually wise. Music is visual too. Bach was a perfectionist.
@@shamans2: The sequence is over at that point; composers often break sequences at the end; the chord needs another F#, as the bass (pedal) leaves the F# after the first beat; a perfectionist would realize that; moreover, as is stated in the video, the piece was probably composed by Krebs, not Bach.
Dubois (treatise) states that "the doubling of the leading tone is frequently used in counterpoint to give a better melodic contour to the parts; it also happens very often that the rhythmic values dictated by some species don't allow the melody with the leading tone to rise to the tonic" (quick translation by me).
Great Observation Lorenzo!
Thank you so much sir ❤️❤❤

Very beautiful, thank you for sharing! Cannot have too much Bach in one's life...

Richardus, what program do you use to notate music?
Thank you Richardus! Now I must learn to read the Alto and Tenor Clefs! And I thought reading 4 part chorales with 4 individual lines of treble and bass clefs was a challenge! I feel my brain expanding!

the principle is quite similar. The Fauxbourdon is a successon of 6/3s
