    The difference in the Pontiac 400 engine was signified by the TA-6.6 on the shaker on the engine, and the Oldsmobile Powered 403 was just called 6.6 liter on the shaker scoop.

    correction Pontiac never had a big block or a small block, the Pontiac V8 is identical from the 326-455 the only difference is the bore, stroke, and main baring size. the 326-400 was 3 inches in diameter and the 421,428, and 455 were all 3.25 inch. no such thing as a big block Pontiac. even the heads all interchange

    The Pontiac trans am was a decently fast car in the later 1970's and came with two options of the 400,, the Pontiac 400, which was an actual Pontiac engine, and the Olds 403 which was a respectable power house at the same time, but I think that the Pontiac was a little stronger.

    I owned a completely stock 73 Formula 455 Firebird (with the functional RA package) is the mid 1980s. I rebuilt the 455 engine back to stock b/c the entire car was already stock and had zero aftermarket parts. Cars back then were easy to work on and anyone with some mediocre mechanical knowledge could easily fix or hot rod their car as all cars were still pure mechanical works of art!

      @@qmusclecars Sold it in the early 1990s to finish university. Very sweet ride and easy to fix and upgrade with aftermarket parts. The Formula 455 didn't have insane horsepower but enough torque and HP for great light to light street racing back then. When I bought the Formula 455 there was also a 383 Cuda for the same price. That early 70s Cuda had the slats on the front grill and the twin hood scoops (no shaker).
      I was going to put early 400 7K3 heads on the 455 which would bump up the compression ratio to about 9:1 but just kept the Formula stock because it was really nice stock (since it already had a new Sikkens midnight blue paint job when I bought the car). Car looked NASTY as heck! Would have look even sweeter with those classic 5 star Cragar SS 15 X 8 all around..... but the original 5 spoke wheels with the fat trim rings were OK as well...

    No.1,P, love the video, but I will admit that I find it most disappointing that the Pontiac brand is not around anymore,yet if you want my opinion though, I believe that GM should have kept the brand and make more cars to really amp up the competitive market of car making and let the people decide what they want to buy and then decide to whether or not to keep it down the line,yet those muscle cars themselves are still hardcore in their own right, good to go with this video, epic respect for those cars in more ways than one.

      The 350 was first offered in the GP in 76. In 75 the 400 4bbl was the base engine. A no cost optional 400 2bbl was offered along with the extra cost option 455. In 76 the 350 became the base engine with the 400 and 455 as options. This was done to lower the cost of the GP which had previously been one of the most expensive cars in the General Motors lineup.

    The GTO was built of the Tempest platform not LeMans. GM did away with Pontiac engines in 1981 that is the last year of a true Pontiac. 2002 Firebird is a Camaro only difference is the trim that's not a real Pontiac it has the heart of a Chevy unfortunately .

      Pontiac actually wanted to continue to develop the Turbo T/A 301 in the third gen Firebird, but GM forced them to use a V8 from another division for the 3rd gen, and obviously it made sense to just go with the Chevy small block. It’s a shame, because if Pontiac had been allowed to continue to develop the Turbo 301 V8 it likely would’ve ended up outshining the Grand National/GNX, which is the very car that they ended up borrowing the engine from (with heavy modifications, they had to use the heads from the FWD version of the 3.8 V6, for example) for the 1989 Turbo T/A.

    • @mikee2923
      @mikee2923 4 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      Even though the HP was down in a lot of the mid 70s cars, they still had plenty of torque. A simple deletion of the horribly restrictive pellet type catalytic converter and adding true dual exhaust and headers netted about 50HP gain in the malaise era.
