I have a 1 ton dodge with a Cummins in it and the engine is great but I have put over 5K into the emissions crap on this truck over the last month and that me doing everything myself and I shop around for my parts for the best price. I replaced the DEF pump and the dealer quoted me 2K plus install and I fount a brand new Cummins pump on ebay for 1k and it was exactly like the one I took off except it worked. Then I find out the EGR valve was bad and I went through it and cleaned everything inside and that was 1K then assorted O2 sensors and had to take the EGR cooler off and clean the soot out of that. New trucks are just fine but they stack so much crap on them that isnt worth the match to burn it all!

I have asked myself.. when all is said and done with all the manufacturing of all this "pollution" crap on engines, the carbon footprint of production, maintenance and then recycling. Can it possibly be better than an old school "naturally aspirated", point ignition IC engine/truck?

@@randycoolbaugh1408 Randy I have a 1 ton Dodge truck it's a flat bed with a Cummins diesel in it. This winter I had been getting intermittent error codes so I started digging into it. By the time I got done replacing everything that was needed including the DEF pump and I buy all my parts wholesale but only buy OEM parts and do all my own work on the truck. When done I had 8k in parts and now the DEF tank heater is giving me a code that it's not working! The engine is typical Cummins runs great works it's ass off every day and never a problem and it's going on 300k miles. How can a manufacturer stack so much expensive crap that demands tons of maintenance, it's expensive as heck to replace and is a general pain in the butt! It's completely ridiculous!!!

@@karlk6860 exactly! Its along the same lines as all this pushing for electric vehicles. Anybody with half a brain and some basic researching skills can figure out that all this "electric/green" or "advanced pollution control systems" do a lick of good for the environment. All this stuff does in line the pockets of the big industry/banking elite's. I have a real fear for the next generation.

@@randycoolbaugh1408 Randy I couldn't agree with you more the direction this country has been taking the last 10 years is against everything I was taught from when I was little and to think our own country doesn't know right from wrong and seems so intent on self destruction and all things that have meant everything suddenly mean nothing. Our country will die on this symbolism over substance philosophy that now seems to be our new pillar of existence! Very very sad state of affairs. Yes I worry about what my daughter is growing up in but it's happening so fast Randy hell I worry about guys like you and me!!
